25.01.2022 Zippety zap , i can inform you of this now. The wall is earthed and top coats of color to match existing is done. I await the radiation readings to know whether the dirty electricity from the smart meter has been blocked from this bedroom

24.01.2022 The iconic saw in Virginia (I know you read that twice) at Brisbane Saw Service Originally dark blue like pic 1, it had oxidized itself to a light dirty blue. Today it turned to the general saw type color, 'Silver Dawn'. It now stands out much more as it catches the sunlight and hopefully people's eye. Have any of you saw it before?

24.01.2022 Ok Coffee Lovers!!! If you're in the Toombul Road, Virginia area and require a great coffee hit, pop in to see Aaron and Jason. Work has been going on for a while and there are still small pieces if decorating happening right now including signage yet to go up. But they are trading to walk in customers. ... Much of their trade has been roasting their own coffee and distributing, now they are setting up to deliver more to customers that are looking to sit in or walk in/walk out as well.

23.01.2022 Finished and stocked, another happy client https://www.facebook.com/9821739034/posts/10158759313899035/

23.01.2022 Just over 2 years ago I painted this amazing beachfront home. I return to find it in the exact condition I left it which, for a beachfront home is great going. The toughest elements a home can be subject to. I return to paint the full interior and maintain the decks. Another reason the home stays in tip top condition, the clients keep on top of areas like decks that do need regular maintenance. I will keep you posted on the interior, and as its early days i can say the colou...r scheme looks brilliant thanks to some great help from Sam at Haymes Paint North Lakes. My clients couldn't be happier with the service, advice and no push attitude on colour consulting. #haymespaintnorthlakes

23.01.2022 Everyone loves a bit of color, yeh? Does it remind you of a beach? Do ya love it? You will soon......

22.01.2022 Do you want to save when hiring a tradie? I'm going to throw a few tips your way that can help you when you're in need of a tradie. The first step when getting some renovating done is to plan ahead. As a tradie that networks with many other tradies, the biggest gripe is when potential clients call wanting work done within days, or even weeks which can be tricky for a tradie at times. ... If you call a tradie well in advance and even give a rough start date (even to the month helps), the tradie can work it into the schedule. Many clients let the tradie shape their work around their job if they have the adjustment option. Trying to slash a tradies price can have terrible effects. Imagine trying to talk a supermarket into selling you something for cheaper. It just doesn't work like that. Supply and demand is generally how trades work. So once again the first point comes into play. Calling suddenly wanting something done will in most cases cost more for the tradesmans effort to drop other projects, find someone to help out, and the list goes on. Also remember that with slashed prices, the tradie still has all of the same outgoings of running a business. The only way to make it worthwhile would be cutting time on labor, which can only result in short cuts or rushing. Not preferred. With this in mind Brian Spooner Painting is working on filling up 2020 with some rejuvenating paint work. If you are thinking of sprucing up the house or office, jump on the planning process, start the initial decision making and enquiring, and make it not only a smooth experience, but also keep the cost down as well.

20.01.2022 This small renovation was inspired by a car driving through the garage wall and pushing through to the bedroom It was also the 3,000,001st time i forgot a before pic Good as new!!

18.01.2022 Happy birthday!!! We are proud to announce that today marks the 6th birthday of Brian Spooner Painting. Full of learning curves, ups and downs, and files full of painting adventures. Thank you all for joining the ride, in these times that could never have been predicted.

18.01.2022 2020 is well and truly off and racing. Freshening up some North Lakes 'Grapeshot'. The darker grey is 'Stepney'.

17.01.2022 You wouldnt believe it. I almost got a before pic. I've undercoated the outside of the office cladding and some of the ply upstairs. All the ply will be painted. Inside the office is finished.

17.01.2022 Deck the pool with Dexpress Merbau tralalalalaa lala la la The sun took this deck back to bare all on its own, while in the shade it was starting to wear thin. A really good sand, a wash with oxalic acid and three coats of Haymes Dexpress Merbau and it is glimmering again. #haymespaint... #dexpress See more

17.01.2022 A long awaited return to the YShield job. Base plates have been fitted to earth the walls once the product is applied. Today I ran some copper tape across each wall and behind each base plate to improve connection between each wall in case cracking on internal and external corners occurs. A second coat applied after that so that the copper tape is now sandwiched between coats. ... One more coat tomorrow and then once dry the base plates can be fixed back tight to the wall and earthed. The final stage will be testing the success and . painting the wall to its original color.

16.01.2022 Sorting out some badly peeled asbestos over the awning, solid If you suspect the surface to be asbestos, please do not go gung ho and scrape away. Care and a safe method needs to be followed. Unlike most wild flaky surfaces where you just remove the coatings as best possible. All you can do other than calling in professional asbestos handlers to remove the asbestos itself is coat the surface with a sealer first up which will hold it all together. Knock off the looser flakes, and skim over with a good exterior filler, as done here.

16.01.2022 Uh Uh Uh! Sorry guys, I'm still not ready to spill too much info on the use of this product. I have only learnt the basics of it to this point and am happy to report the first coat has been applied. I am meeting with experts in the field soon and before I jump ahead and inadvertently misinform everyone, I will save it until after the meeting. I can assure you some will brush it off, while others will be alarmed and wish to know more. All I can say is, this is a regular near new home in a highly built up suburb, and typical of millions of homes exactly the same.

15.01.2022 The ever popular Haymes 'Grey Shadow' showing its brilliance once again Close to finishing this townhouse. The race has been on to finish before the carpets come in. #haymespaint

15.01.2022 As far as the sample went for the pearl effect, NUH! That was ditched after the first coat. And so the decision was made to do the whole wall immediately. Depending where you stand, sit, lay or climb, the deflection of light changes. At this point the wall was still wet, tomorrow when it is dry I'm sure the effect will once again look different.

15.01.2022 Progress at Banyo sees the ceilings finished, cupboards finished, upper walls undercoated and 1st top coat of finish color. All the rest is undercoated, while the frames and doors have now been filled and sanded. Next the frames will be touched up, gapped and the two coats of gloss will be applied. Aah, the stages of visual joy while painting a house

14.01.2022 Time to reveal the character!! With a kitchen and custom cupboards to go in before I return to finish off those areas, here I introduce the rest of the internal areas of the home

13.01.2022 An exciting job in Banyo. Not just a run of the mill style. This renovated cottage gets some features to play with and I can't wait to see the final result. It will be traditional colours with a modern spin, hang in there for progress shots to reveal the changes.

13.01.2022 Another couple of pearl feature walls complete today afer finishing some ceilings and walls. Nice effect. I missed a pic of the other feature finished but I will be returning to this fabulous clients home in a few weeks to do some more ceilings, walls, and yet another pearl feature wall.

13.01.2022 Yes! That's water there, and this is Redcliffe's main beachfront shopping precinct. A previously well known commercial space is getting an enormous upgrade and I will be there on and off for quite a while as it moves along. Keep an eye out for my signage arriving soon. Have a look through the bars if you like, it resembles a zoo until the paint brings it to life.

13.01.2022 Restrictions are well and truly over in this little villa. The paint color has opened it right up. Just check out those comparison shots Shmick and ready for carpet

12.01.2022 The office complete and the warehouse walls done, some future work on a lunchroom may see another visit in the future

12.01.2022 THE COLOUR POLL - Test your inner colour consultant Here I have an enclosed verandah with the underside of currogated iron and exposed rafters. The previous paint has aged and both the iron and timber are the same colour. The iron over time gets some mildew and marks and the mission is to find a solution to these issues using paint colour. One solution I have recommended is to put a darker colour on the iron and the lighter Lexicon half on the rafters, so as your eyes take ...focus they are instantly focusing on the rafters, not the iron. Here is where the poll comes into it. When a client chooses colours, they can be given 10 colours that technically match and still choose a different one because it is what they like. Because a colour choice varies to everyone's different tastes. In the pictures below I have painted the rafters and beam the colours that they will be, then added three samples. Over the weekend the client will continue looking at different times of the day from different angles. I want you to choose the colour you think goes the best, and next week we will see if your choice matches the clients. Read picture captions for information on the colour names. Colours never look the same in photos, but bear in mind this is a bit of fun. What do you think? A,B or C?

12.01.2022 The beauty of an airless sprayer, in a space with such height, and obstacles they really come in handy. And what a difference!!

11.01.2022 Banyo has a nice home emerging. Nice home for now, although the life-changing character of this home is about to go next level. Fairly regular colors have been applied to date, Over the coming days you just wait.... Upper walls are complete, the rail is glossed. Application of character is on its way!!

11.01.2022 For the 3 millionth time I forgot to take a before pic. This entry door was so weather damaged the bottom area was mostly bare. A hard core sand back all over and a wash with Oxalic acid to give the bare timber its natural beauty back. Three coats with some Merbau pigment and this ripper is right to go for at least 2 years.... It's never any good to neglect your wood

11.01.2022 The old and the new at Kedron. By far the most popular colour for the last two years, Haymes 'Grey Shadow'.

09.01.2022 Well done colour consultants!! With most picking A. Phantom. This colour was the first sample to try, and technically it is in the shade to match up so you can be classed as technically correct. But not winners . The client felt it threw too much brown and we both agreed it didn't hide the iron and create focus on the rafters. Kate went with B. Boulder Grey, which the client felt looked right, although once the Moon and Stars was introduced around it, it just didn't look r...ight. And this is also the benefit of being able to see it from different angles and not just in pictures. Eventually the decision was made to go with C. Chimney Ash, as it had that darkness to go with anything and it made the iron disappear to give the rafters the limelight. Like many painting jobs, when it comes to colour, there is technically correct colours, but in the end it comes down to individual taste that makes the decision, and seeing it first hand, this result looks fantastic.

09.01.2022 Happy hump day from Sandgate

08.01.2022 This picture shows a simple error from the original painting . There may be other causes, but the very apparent reason can be easily identified . This appeared in three rooms including the main, larger areas of the home. For all the non painters on this page, i wonder if you can diagnose the issue It is a common problem with new builds to this day, and not necessarily the painters fault, but more the specifications the builder tells the painter to follow. And if this... is your new home, this could also be your issue in future years. A ticking time bomb of flaking paint

07.01.2022 2020 seems like the year for special effect products. While some details are being ironed out on my other project, now I am about to embark on a different adventure. This time a client of mine has shelled out for some pearl effect. This is a first base coat in preparation for a sample to make sure they will go with it. After this coat they already want to go ahead . So I will keep you posted on this interesting finish as we move along, as I have other parts of the same home to paint along the way, including two other feature sections in this product. Some updates will be coming your way, stay tuned

07.01.2022 Important information about the compulsory Home Warranty Insurance that can help home owners put an end to paying extra money for painting work. Explained here by Nigel Gorman from Aussie Painters Network. https://www.facebook.com/100827509962052/posts/3003751133002994/

06.01.2022 Brian Spooner Painting is still floating through this rain patch. In fact, keep an eye out for some interesting projects on the way. The very next project involves a special product that will either interest or alarm you. And it involves POWER

06.01.2022 With a pearl, pearl here , A carbon wall there , A small job, Huge job, Jobs everywhere,... B. S. Painting does it all, EE I EE I O With several interesting projects all happening at once, it's a busy time. A large job ahead next week that you will be able to follow right here. On top of that four more pearl walls have been approved and a long awaited return to the carbon wall where we may find out if it is in fact a success, or a learning curve. Some meetings have taken place with an electrician and the representative of the product to make sure we go ahead the right way . Some more parts have arrived and once it is confirmed where they will be placed, the final two coats will be applied. More details will be released along the way

05.01.2022 If you've ever wondered why it is a bad idea to smoke inside a house, especially a rental, I can now show you the damage caused. This was not over a long term, but to restrict the smoke the tenant chose one room with the door shut to light them up. And you can see the difference in the ceilings on either side of the doorway. All surfaces were not just stained, they were greasy and sticky, so a thorough wash to remove as much gunk off the surface as possible. Then it's a case of using the correct stain sealer that is capable of holding such stains back, otherwise the stain will penetrate every coat that's put over the top. As seen, when coated with the white stain seal, the color it has become is almost a match with the darker wall color. Even the carpet will have to be replaced as they had became slightly sticky with residue

At Brian Spooner Painting we can connect you to the right people and products to save your family's health from these dangers. 05.01.2022 One of two large projects happening right now

03.01.2022 New arrivals.....business cards

03.01.2022 Early 2020 is a perfect time to book in some painting. As the year goes on the diary fills up and it becomes harder to book a spot. Now is the time to pounce and request a quote

03.01.2022 The current project is a big 'un. Let me know your thoughts on how this color scheme will end. So many options and possibilities. Rails and wall spaces to work with everywhere. Looking to brighten it up as the hallway runs the length of the house and right down the middle. Always a dark area. The after pic of this area will arrive next week all going well

02.01.2022 Today the final touches were completed on a lovely acreage home. Originally the walls were making all the statements with a strong color mix to steal your eyes. The plan was to keep simple and modern using Haymes 'Greyology 1' on all surfaces. As you can see in the pics, even the different surfaces appear to have variations of color due to their texture or shadows. The difference that has overpowered all else, is the way that the timber trims, tiles, furniture and picture...s now draw the eye and become the focal point. On top of that is the amount of light now reflecting throughout the home. To me it will always be remembered as the job I was on when Covid struck. But bigger than that was the great change, and fantastic clients I was able to work with over the time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Let me just take a moment to be grateful I am extremely grateful that in these uncertain times I have been able to continue working and wonderful people out there are choosing local small business for their tradesman needs I am totally and utterly grateful that along the way I have done work for some fantastic clients that I quite often return to for repetitive work. This gives me an opportunity to see how my products and methods are holding up over different periods of time and conditions I feel very grateful also that with all these great clients, comes a feel of being a community, a Brian Spooner Painting community where people feel comfortable to send a quick text for advice or upcoming projects that may involve painting, with a quick catch up on how we are all travelling I am very grateful for the opportunity to work in some amazing locations, with several rural homes with the fresh smell of trees, creatures and views. An upcoming beachfront return and also the opportunity to work with some interesting products that are brand new to the painting industry #haymespaint

02.01.2022 While currently listed as an essential worker, and taking things one day at time, I have been painting this home in sections at a time in the event painting is shut down. Almost complete are the main areas. Old v. New, color contrast v. Bright, crisp and modern

01.01.2022 Ready for a Monday opening
