24.01.2022 LAWN CARE Lawns that are not mowed often enough or too severely will be patchy, invaded by weeds and are unable to cope with hot weather. Cool season lawns need regular mowing during spring to autumn (every 1-2 weeks) and during winter (every 3-4 weeks).... To remove moss from your lawn If possible improve light by pruning overhanging plants Aerate the lawn by piercing soil 10cm with a garden fork Apply iron sulphate spray (30g/ 5L water) and rake in vigorously, repeat after one week and then oversow with lawn seed.

19.01.2022 THE EDIBLE GARDEN - Tomatoes To encourage the growth of large juicy fruits When plants are small remove the small branches that form where the leaf meets the main stem Apply half-strength liquid fertiliser (eg seaweed or fish-based) until first fruits have formed, then apply full strength every 2 weeks.... Saving seed -Squeeze out seed and juice into little dishes, allow to ferment for a few days then rinse off (tea strainer works well). -Place seeds on labeled paper towel and when dry store for next year!
18.01.2022 Pruning lavender - remove flowering stems (approx.one third of plant height) to maintain rounded shape. Be careful to retain some green leaves and do not cut back into old wood.

Prune lower branches of trees Rake up bark and leaves Clear roofs and gutters of leaves. Look for fire retarding/low flammability plants when planting close to the house.

06.01.2022 BLOOMING MARVELLOUS Many spring/summer flowering plants (roses, diosma) benefit from a light prune to encourage second flush of flowers. Now is the time to divide overgrown bulbs. Either replant now or for daffodils, tulips and crocuses dry the bulbs and store in cool place until planting in autumn.
05.01.2022 Brian has a large zero-turn mower to get large areas of lawn done quickly and efficiently. He also has a smaller mower for smaller blocks and hard to access areas.
05.01.2022 Brian specialises in brushcutting, removing long grass and weeds. This is especially important at this time of year when reducing fuel around your house is essential for fire safety.
