22.01.2022 It’s Semi Final weekend and we have all 4 teams contesting for Grand Final positions but rain is clearly going to play a major role over the next few days. The full details are below but if we are to play this weekend 1sts are at home against Roseville, 2nds away to Lindfield, 3rds are away against Lane Cove and 4ths are at home against Lane Cove. At least the comp has made it to this stage unlike last year where Covid ended the season before the Semis and Grand Finals could ...be played. Our Classics(over 50s) team were due to play their final game of the season on Sunday against Georges River at Bland Oval but that game has already been washed out. Based on the forecast it’s likely to be a challenging weekend so good luck to all teams.

19.01.2022 Although the 2019/20 season was abruptly cut short by two weeks, because of Covid 19, with no Semis or Grand Finals played we still enjoyed another wonderful season claiming our 8th successive Club Championship. The preparation for the 2020/21 season officially gets underway this Saturday from 930am at the Briars Nets-next to the Briars Club. Well done to all those who attended our unofficial practice run last week. I am sure it gives you an idea of how fit (or unfit?) you ar...e and what needs to be done before our comp starts late October. As we suggested last week all games(8 rounds) pre-Christmas will be one day games for all grades. As advised, we are very aware of the Covid 19 requirements and this will continue as required throughout the season including the signing in and out at training and of course on game days. bring your own drink bottle no sharing equipment do not attend training if you have visited any of the 'hot spots' (please advise me asap) do not attend training if you have ANY of the symptoms (please advise me asap) arrive at 9.15am for a 9.30am start With regards training we MUST know whether you are attending each week and as such request that you reply to Gerard's emails as we expect very good numbers and we need to organise players into various group sizes. Also, it will ensure you get a bat each week! Please advise whether you are attending training this Saturday. Regards Gerard(0419 227 949) [email protected]

15.01.2022 Great numbers with over 60 attending training today at the Briars Nets...and just around the corner Rothwell Park was looking an absolute treat!
14.01.2022 As we edge past the half way mark of the season this is how the Club Champs looks for the top 5 clubs; 1. Briars 674 2. Lane Cove 567 3. Epping 520... 4. Lindfield 474 5. Warringah 449 Well done also to our Masters Over 40s Side and Briars Rivals who completed an incredible weekend on Sunday with solid victories against The Cricketers Club and Strathfield respectively. Below are some photos from 1st Grade’s win over Warringah on Saturday thanks again to Graeme. Important last round this weekend before we head to the Christmas break against Lindfield. It’s clearly a huge week this week and there will be more on that in coming days, training tomorrow is from 430pm at the Briars Nets, we all know GP would expect you to be there so let’s keep the momentum going and continue to do him proud.
13.01.2022 Just a reminder, the AGM is on Wednesday night, 730pm at the Briars...due to Covid restrictions and based on the numbers already attending we only have 4 spots left for the meeting so please advise GP ASAP if you are looking to come. See you there.

11.01.2022 Some great photos below from our Under 24s big win over Mounties/Southern Districts today at Rothwell Park thanks to Graeme Durrant.
11.01.2022 Great training session again today in sensational weather, over 70 attended starting with a fitness session at Rothwell Park...see you all again next Saturday from 930am at the Briars Nets.
11.01.2022 A Tribute to a Club Legend #theresonlyonegerardprice #poppy #GP
09.01.2022 Another good session today in cracking weather with 60-70 attending..see you all next Saturday at 930am at the Briars Nets.
08.01.2022 A huge couple of days ahead for everyone. Tomorrow we farewell a legend with an 11am Funeral Service followed by the wake at the Briars Club from around 1pm, the service will also be live streamed at the Briars from 11am. On Saturday all 1st-4th grade one day games against Lindfield will commence at 10:01am as we observe a minutes silence in honour of Gerard and we thank the Shires Committee for approving this. All 4 grades will also wear black arm bands. Fittingly 1st grade ...return to our beloved Rothwell Park on Saturday whilst 3rd grade are back at Ron Routley Oval. 2nd and 4th grade are both playing away. In the lower grades 5th grade play Lane Cove on Sunday whilst it’s local derby weekend as we see Briars Gold take on Briars Brothers on Saturday and Briars Maroon play Briars Rivals on Sunday. Our Classics Over 50s side play Warringah away on Sunday. Good luck to all teams this weekend...I’m sure we’ll all do GP proud!
07.01.2022 All 4 top grades have progressed through from this weekends Qualifying Finals to next weekends Semi Finals where they will all be playing for Grand Final positions. 1st grade played really well. We dismissed Lane Cove for 160 with Brenton Wright taking a 3rd five wicket haul against the Covies this season with his 6-45 and Maxy Squire took 4-35. We were 3-81 overnight and somehow managed to play 6 overs of cricket today and were 3-89 when the rain hit again and the match was... called with Maxy 33no and Brenton 8no. Rothwell Park was a real stand out today, one of only two grounds in Sydney to get a game of cricket on! 1st grade will now play Roseville at Rothwell next weekend. 2nd grade can move on from yesterday’s hiccup, being the highest placed loser means they will play Minor Premiers Lindfield at Lindfield Oval next weekend. 3rd grade were on the verge of victory with Strathfield 9-85 chasing our 138 and despite today’s washout they also move through to next weekends semi final and will play Lane Cove at Kingsford Smith Oval. 4th grade were also in control of their game before the weather put paid to things, we were 5-164 at stumps yesterday after youngsters Harry Lee 64no and Xavier Tregeagle 54 set the guys up. 4ths will take on 4th placed Lane Cove at Ron Routley Oval next weekend. Unfortunately Briars Rivals season ended today when they went down in their Chappelow Cup semi against Mounties Black. Mounties made 7-105 off a reduced 20 overs but the Rivals fell short and were dismissed for 89 with skipper Vivek making 34. Well done to Vivek and the whole team on an excellent season. Great work on getting all 4 top grades through to the Semi Final stage yet again guys, training at 430pm on Wednesday is even more crucial this week so we will see you then!

04.01.2022 As we reflect on the life of our greatest Briar we look back at where it all began. A few little photos below. One of GP in the Wests Cawsey Shield Team(U/12s), a Wests Moore Shield Team(U/14s)photo and one of the Under 16s Croydon-Briars undefeated premiership winning side. In the Under 14s, GP scored an incredible 612 runs that season for Croydon-Briars including 3 centuries and was only out once for an average of 612- surely a record that still stands some 43 years later.... He was awarded a Slazenger bat, presented at the time by the Daily Telegraph at the SCG. The final photo is GP, his Dad(Kevin)and two brothers(John and Paul) about 40 odd years ago when they played for Kevin’s team at the time(Drummoyne) in the afternoon comp before Kevin joined the Briars as well.
04.01.2022 Lunch at the Under 24s...Briars finished 7-246 off 50 overs against Mounties...well batted Jamie McLeod who made 63 and Aidan Gardiner who finished 69no. Jeremy Wedd chipped in with 21 and Xavier Tregeagle 18no...make sure you head down to Rothwell and support the guys in the field this afternoon.
04.01.2022 The new picket fence at Rothwell Park looks fantastic. This along with the new drainage, the new square, new floodlights, new scoreboard and of course in recent years the new Pavilion completes the upgrade and surely confirms it as the best ground in Sydney Shires! Huge thanks to the City of Canada Bay Council.
03.01.2022 Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, the rain has washed out all 4 semi finals this weekend. As a result 1st grade and 4th grade progress through to the Grand Final next weekend so congratulations to Maxy’s and Lloydy’s teams. Disappointingly though, 2nd and 3rd grade bow out because of their lower place in the semi, but well done to all the players and to Sculls and DK(and Simmo) who did super jobs captaining this year.... Lunch is on at the Briars from 12noon today.
02.01.2022 Our Under 24s have capped off a massively successful weekend for the club. The boys have had a comprehensive bonus point victory over Mounties/Southern Districts today to go with our first innings and 3 outright wins yesterday. Batting first the Briars boys batted really well to finish 7-246 despite a middle order hiccup. Jamie McLeod batted well making 63, Adian Gardner(below) continued his excellent weekend form with a crucial 69no and Jeremy Wedd with 21 and Xavier Tregeag...le with 18no chipped in with important contributions. Our bowlers led by Sammy Tregeagle were on top from the start. We took early wickets and the Mounties batting capitulated to be dismissed for just 46,Sammy(below) took 7-21 today to go with his 5-24 in yesterday’s 2nd grade win. Well done boys, a huge result for both our Under 24s and for the Club Championship...enjoy the beers!
02.01.2022 Under 24s...Mounties 7-37, Sam Tregeagle 6-15 chasing Briars 7-246

01.01.2022 Round 4 tomorrow is another One dayer, this time against the strong Mounties/Southern Districts Club. 1st grade play away against Mounties as do 3rds whilst 2nds and 4ths are at home. 20 years ago Gerard Price and Richard Tregeagle spearheaded 1st grade to two premierships in a row(photos below) and tomorrow their sons Damian Price and Samuel Tregeagle head up the 1st grade pace attack. ... 1st grade also welcome Nick Govers into the team and he joins his former Sydney Grade Club team mate Ryan Corns(who played 20/20 for us a couple of seasons ago) who has had a very good start to the season. Govers was part of Gerard’s Cancer fundraising bike rides from Sydney to Melbourne and Melbourne to Adelaide in recent years and we are fortunate to have both of these champion guys at our great club. In the lower grades 5th grade play Auburn away tomorrow whilst on Sunday Briars Maroon play Pennant Hills, Briars Rivals play Mounties, Briars Brothers play Auburn. Briars Gold have the weekend off. Our Masters(Over 40s) side tackle Old Ignations at home on Sunday. Good luck to all teams this weekend, the Briars $16 Meal deals will be on offer back at the club after the game.
01.01.2022 All Shires and Grade games have been cancelled this weekend due to the recent Covid outbreak. Come and have a drink at the Briars and celebrate our greatest’s life.
