24.01.2022 Australia’s 3.5 million small businesses are the first to help a footy club sausage sizzle, contribute towards new netball courts, or help a local Rotary drive.... But COVID is changing that, and with so many businesses shutting their doors for the last time, we need to do our bit now by #goinglocalfirst to save local jobs, local economies and local communities. www.golocalfirst.com.au

23.01.2022 Do we take our access to clean water for granted? We open and close a tap, it's our choice of hot or cold, and has pressure behind it. We sat with Dr Eric Broa...d (Sultan Mehmet) and Zafer Sarac (Corbaci [chief cook]), both longtime reenactors in Janissary Barracks Inc., to discuss the significance of the fountain within Ottoman culture. Saturday 14 November, immerse yourself in all things Ottoman, as we welcome the newly created Turkish fountain on the Festival site! Turkish Oil Wrestling, Belly dancing, archery demonstrations, and morethis small event will be a Turkish delight! Bookings essential! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/kutlu-toren-tickets-1267575402 More about Janissary Barracks: Janissary spawned at the Abbey Medieval Festival in 1999, when Zafer realised there was no Ottoman representation at the Festival. They continue to explore Ottoman culture and teach it to the public. They introduced Turkish Oil Wrestling in 2005. #OttomanEmpire #Abbeystowe #Turkishdelight #TurkishOilWrestling #BellyDancing

20.01.2022 BREAKING: From 1am on Thursday, October 1, were increasing the number of people who can gather at venues and events, as long as its outdoors. It means busine...sses like outdoor dining, beer gardens, theme parks and zoos, can increase the number of patrons outdoors from one per 4 square metres to one per 2 square metres. The maximum number of attendees permitted at events with a COVID Safe Checklist will increase from 500 to 1,000 per day. 14.01.2022 Today I had the accidental pleasure of meeting a remarkable man, whose patriotism inspires me and fills me with pride! Ron is the inventor and manufacturer of ...a product called Ozilite. Ozilite is an automatic flameless cigarette lighter. Now unless you are responsible for the safety and security of people in prisons, psych centres, airports, mining sites, oil rigs and the like, then you are probably not in the market for one of Ron's products. But his story is worth a read. They say necessity is the mother of invention and it certainly applies to Ron. As a humble tv repair man in the 90's the demand for his services began to dwindle, as cheap imported tv's flooded the market which were not economical to repair. Ron was later approached by a correctional facility following a fire started by inmates with cigarette lighters. The correctional facility requested Ron find a solution to their problem and after about 6 months of tinkering he did. The flameless, waterproof, electronic lighter was born! Ron patented his creation and word got out. Ron now exports to countries all over the world and is one of only two manufacturers of the product worldwide. Ron, who is in his 70's, works full time from his workshop in an industrial shed in Caboolture, personally hand-crafting every single item before it's packaged up and distributed. When it was suggested to Ron that he could make a lot more money by opening a factory in China and producing his products over there, he responded by saying, that he knows his products are quality and the consumers who purchase Australian Made know that it's quality and he was just not prepared to sacrifice quality for money. Ron loves his town, state, and country, and is a proud manufacturer of a quality, innovative, Australian Made product. Respect to you Ron and your team at Ozilite! That’s bloody Bonza! You can check out Ozilite at www.ozilite.com. #australianmanufacturing #australianmade #australianowned #supportsmallbusiness #chooseaustralia #choosequality #choosebonza #australia #australianingenuity #bonza #supportaustralianmade #supportlocalbusiness #supportlocal

11.01.2022 For the first time ever, a million Australians are out of work. Although many are still looking for work, the challenges our small businesses are facing to keep... their doors open and staff employed are significant, and not easily overcome. If you are able, please support a small business when looking for goods and services - you're likely helping them keep their doors open and staff on board. And we need to ensure they'll still be around on the other side of this crisis, to help us all recover.

02.01.2022 KUTLU TÖREN means happy ceremony! We are pleased to invite you to join us for a Kutlu Tören right here at Abbeystowe in just a few weeks time! So what’s it al...l about? Building a fountain was seen as an act of piety which also demonstrated the social, economic and political standing of the person who commissioned the fountain. The fountain was not only for humans but also for animals, including stray cats and dogs allowing them access to water whenever needed. During our lockdown for COVID-19 the Sultan of Janissary Barracks Inc. commissioned such a fountain for Abbeystowe. To celebrate its completion, we are marking the occasion with a traditional Kutlu Tören. The full afternoon program includes Turkish Oil wrestling, belly dancing, archery demonstration and traditional handwashing plus a Turkish Style Picnic Box to nibble on as you celebrate the occasion. Bookings are essential!
