25.01.2022 AHOY! our cruisers booked for the August 25 lunch cruise from Bongaree Jetty must supply us with an address and phone number so we can meet COVID-19 requirements. Please contact June via email to provide this information, and share this news with friends as well. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. June: [email protected]

24.01.2022 It was a really tough day at the office today! The Management Committee had a project meeting with representatives from other businesses, so we were obliged to use a bigger space for the gathering. The perfect answer was Serenity at the Waterways. We were not able to have the usual buffet arrangement due to The Rules, but each meeting participant had their own delicious grazing plate. Thank you Louise and Allen for looking after us so well.

20.01.2022 ... and away they go, including Ann and her son who happened to be there at the Bongaree Jetty sight seeing, and decided a lunch cruise was just the thing on this bright, sunny day. Thanks for bringing your own mask to wear while lunch was being served. It's a different kind of BYO, but yet another weird thing about 2020.

20.01.2022 Treasures! Hospice Op Shop, First Ave, Bongaree.

19.01.2022 We need to give our volunteers at Hospice Op Shop, especially Manager Nell, a big "Thank You!" for a successful week back in business after a two month closure. Generally, customers and volunteers adjusted to the new, temporary rules.Donations are being moved off site for several days before being sorted as a precaution. We are doing the best we can, as always.

18.01.2022 From time to time we have conversations with family members and friends about their experience within the Hospice Suite. Having a loved one professionally cared for in peaceful surroundings can seem like a warm hug, easing our stress a little as we walk with someone we love though those last days of life. This is our mission, and we thank you, our supporters, for enabling local residents to stay in their community, stay close to family and friends, and leave us with dignity.

16.01.2022 Today, July 18, we held our 2020 Annual General Meeting. Thank you for your attendance, and thank you for helping out with afternoon tea. All members of the Management Committee were re-elected. We welcome Carolyn Burke to the position of Secretary, while Maree Cunningham moves into the position of Treasurer. There was a lot of interest in Webster Place. We'll post some updates over on the Bribie Island Webster Place Facebook page.

15.01.2022 HOSPICE OP SHOP: locals have been clearing out cupboards, drawers and wardrobes recently. We have the evidence.

14.01.2022 Seemed like a good idea ... gather a few Management Committee members and supporters at Webster Place to show off our construction plans. On this freezing cold, windy day we needed a 44 gallon drum and a good hot fire blazing away in it to keep us warm! Some billy tea would have gone down well too! Joan Harrison, centre of the photo, is a founding member of the Association and has been active with the Hospice Association since 1997. Joan Cornett, next to other Joan, has been working with us for nearly as long. These ladies are two of our Treasures.

14.01.2022 Rosemary was involved in the Hospice Association at inception in 1997. Last week Rosemary posted to us the newspaper clippings and other records that she had kept safe. Joan Harrison and Joan Cornett had a great trip down memory lane reading some of the articles and naming people in photos taken for publicity. We've come a long way since then, but our journey started with that first Public Meeting, the first elected Management Committee, and a hard working Fundraising Committee. Solid foundations you might say.

13.01.2022 ... AND we have more treasures! Can you bear it? Hospice Op Shop, Bongaree

12.01.2022 Driza has a new owner! Thanks for spreading the word. Hospice Op Shop, First Ave, Bongaree.

12.01.2022 CANCELLATION: we must advise that our coach trip to the Spirit of the Dance performance at Caloundra that was postponed has now been cancelled by the Events Centre. People who booked with us will have money returned as soon as possible. On the sunny side, more Lady Brisbane lunch cruise trips from Bongaree Jetty will be offered as soon as we have the dates.

11.01.2022 Now that the weather is a bit warmer, and we are allowed to go out on the town in small numbers with lots of space between us, (no hugging remember) you may need to freshen up your wardrobe with a "new" outfit. Something very bright or a little more subdued perhaps - Hospice Op Shop has both.

10.01.2022 Boronia Cottage: If you don't think you could cope with waking up to sunshine yellow on your door, then ask for the green room or the blue room.

10.01.2022 Loose change: Leo from Bribie Island Bicycle User Group, presented Joan with a cheque for the Hospice Suite fundraising, with an apology for the donation being a bit less than in previous years. When out on their rides the members of BUGs usually collect their loose change from their coffee breaks to pool for donations. The COVID-19 influence, people using plastic cards for purchases, has curtailed the "loose change" effort this time round. We've assisted more than the usual number of locals needing hospice care this year, so we're grateful for every dollar. Thanks for your years of support BUGs members.

08.01.2022 Good news! We have two more lunch cruises booked for the Lady Brisbane, Thursday 8 October and Tuesday 20 October. Arrive at Bongaree Jetty at 11.30 am to prepare for boarding. Bring a mask to wear while being served from the buffet lunch, and bring a mug and/or wine glass for your drinks. Cost of lunch is $42 per person. June: 0427 088 705 or email ajay1935@bigpond

07.01.2022 The Bribie Island Lions Club members are some of the hardest working people we know, actively supporting many needs in our community. We were pleased to attend their 50th Anniversary Changeover Dinner, where we were one of the local associations to be presented with donations. Congratulations to all Lions, past and present, and thank you for the welcome contribution to the funding of the Hospice Suite.

07.01.2022 We have our own Triple J! This is Julie from Wallum Action Group, with Joan Harrison one of the original members of the 23 year old Hospice Association, and Joan Cornett who is a long term member and our current Vice Chairperson. Wallum Action Group generously contributed the entire cost of replacing the older bedside tables and lamp tables at Boronia Cottage. If you support the Community Gardens in First Ave, then you support the amazing work Wallum Action group do in this community. Thank you WAGs.

05.01.2022 The lads started early this morning. They're going to spruce up Boronia Cottage while Suncare's respite services are "on hold". They'll iron out the bruises and dings in the walls, add a bit of colour, and repaint the areas that are in need. Boronia Cottage will be eight years old this year, and is going well.

05.01.2022 This might brighten your day. Hospice Op Shop in First Ave Bongaree will re-open on Monday June 1 at 9.00 am. We hope to return to our normal trading hours. The restrictions for attendance in our little shop will be enforced as they are at all businesses. The Manager Nell and all of our wonderful volunteers have spent many hours preparing the shop for a return to business. We will accept clean, saleable donations, but please be aware that we have no storage on site if there is a donation deluge.

04.01.2022 We have received advice that the annual Qld Garden Expo, held at Nambour Showgrounds, has been cancelled. The organisers postponed this amazing and very popular July event till September, but it is obvious that restrictions are still not at a level that allows confidence to plan this event. The organisers are concerned about the well being of the traders and exhibitors as well as the attending public. For us there remains the concerns around coach numbers to events. Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is going ahead with many TCOF event cancellations or changes, but the coach issue remains for us. Let's hope life gets back to normal soon. Stay safe.

04.01.2022 UPDATE: a day trip to Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers will not be planned this year. There is a lot of confusion in the city around this wonderful event, with many cancellations and "to be advised" statements being issued. Private gardens will not be open to visitors, and we don't yet know what bus numbers will be permitted. Yep, we're sad too. We'd love to take you out on a fun filled trip, but our most important consideration is your health and well being.

03.01.2022 How's THIS for a gift? Simone Wilson MP presented our Association with a huge gift basket for our fundraising. Thank you Simone. Watch this space for upcoming raffle promotion news.

02.01.2022 Boronia Cottage - if you don't like canary yellow, better look away now! We've introduced a few splashes of colour here and there to brighten the stay for visitors and staff.

02.01.2022 Rae and Maree, members of the Bribie Hospice Management Committee, were guests at the launch of the Terry Young Vision Builders forum. Speakers from across local businesses, community associations, non-profit organisations and support groups shared experiences of working in the Longman community, the challenges we face, and how those challenges might be met. We all chose to live here. We all want to make Longman an even better place in which to live, work and retire.

01.01.2022 Before and After: we are sure you'll agree that the new bedside tables, purchased for Boronia Cottage by Wallum Action Group, look great.
