25.01.2022 Thank-you Noel - Keeping it Simply Smart - Just Beautiful and so very generous
24.01.2022 NAIDOC Week & Remembrance Day Today we walked down to the park behind the Seaside Museum. We were invited by the Museum to be part of their NAIDOC week and Remembrance Day events for 2020. We had a morning of singing, dancing and listening to stories. Uncle share the story of how his mob got their totem the Possum. Uncle also showed us the Victoria Cross awarded to one of his relatives and explained that the medal represents bravery. He also showed the children an Indigenous ...battle shield and other Army medals awarded to his family members. At 11 we listened to the Ode’ and then observed a minute silence in honour of the soldiers who fought in the First and Second World Wars followed by the excitement of a couple of Spitfire Aeroplanes flying low over Bribie. These children now know that Remembrance Day or sometimes known informally as Poppy Day is a memorial day observed to remember the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty. Last week the children made Swallow birds and waved these as Uncle sang his Swallow song in Wiradjuri language and English. They also played clapping sticks as Uncle sang in Wiradjuri language and in English a Lullaby song. We also celebrated Uncle’s Birthday with cake, hot chips and also gifted him a new 2020 NAIDOC Week Celebration shirt.
24.01.2022 The pace is definitely a tad slower today
23.01.2022 Final outing to Seaside Museum for our Turtle group. Found a displaced baby Flying Fox on the way. Reported to Marg who rescued and will care for until tonight. The mother bat will come tonight looking for her baby so Marg will have it back in the tree before nightfall. Can highly recommend families visit the museum during holiday break.......so very interactive and interesting not only for children but for big people too!
23.01.2022 Teaching Uncle to FLOSS!
23.01.2022 Our wonderful Grant working with and for our children. The Pulley System malfunctioned and the children this week saw the opportunity to create something new.........A Zip Line! The system needed some tweaking but in the end we have a perfectly functioning Pulley System and now a Zip Line too!
23.01.2022 We have had a fabulous final day with our Turtle group of kiddos yesterday ahead of our Beach Breakup Party today. As a flow from us spotting a baby bat in a tree during, last Wednesday’s walk to the Seaside Museum - Marg the Wildlife Rescue ‘Bat Lady’ paid us a visit and brought along two baby bats. Marg was so impressed with the knowledge the children already hold about the Flying Fox. Because we cohabitate with these native animals they are one of the first things we learn... about at our kindy. The RSL also collected the Christmas Decorations the children have made for their tree and gifted the children with a special morning tea. Kindy families if you visit the RSL before Christmas check out the magnificent tree decorated by the little hands of our kindy children.
23.01.2022 Our Aged Care visit program took a big hit this year with Covid. Following 35 out of 40 weeks of kindy and by improvising with FaceTime and visits from outside the glass doors we have now been permitted to restart face to face visits with maximum of 3 children. The joy on our old friends faces is evident in these images. They are so happy to have us back. We are now visiting twice each week for the remainder of our kindy year. It was an extra special visit for one of our kiddos as his Nanna lives in the facility
22.01.2022 Thanks for sharing Julie McDonald
21.01.2022 Another annual tradition that we are proud to be part of. The children enjoyed making the decorations and enjoyed the yummy morning tea even more. Thank you Bribie RSL
20.01.2022 Still an absolute favourite

19.01.2022 Last year we collected and delivered wrapped Christmas gifts for the children of The Cherbourg Aboriginal Community. This was received so well that we have decided to make this a yearly tradition. We are inviting our kindy families and the wider community to donate a wrapped gift labelled boy/girl and age. These can be dropped off at kindy in Cotterill Ave between 8-3 Monday to Friday up until Friday 11th December. We will be personally delivering the gifts on Wednesday 16t...h December. We have partnered with our friend and colleague Sue Inglis and her Pelican Waters Golden Beach Kindergarten and Childcare Families and will make this journey out to Cherbourg an even bigger success for the children, just in time for the towns Annual Christmas Tree event. 19.01.2022 Science Friday is with us again! Today's experiment was all about gases. We combined bicarb soda (base) with Vinegar (acid) to create a chemical reaction (endothermic). Other words bubbles and gas. We poured Vinegar about 1/3 full into our bottles.... Then we carefully added 1 table spoon of bicarb to our balloons. We used a funnel to get the bicarb into our balloons. Then we placed the balloon over the mouth of the bottle. Careful not to pour the bicarb into the bottle. Then we were all ready we made a hypothesis as to what would happen. There were some awesome ideas. We all lifted our balloons and poured the contents into the bottle. Instantly the chemicals combined to create lots of bubbles and gas. That inflated our ghosts. We learnt new words like, endothermic, acid and bases, chemical reactions and hypothesis. And of course the topic of 'farting' found its way into the conversations too :-) . See more
19.01.2022 Lest We Forget We Will Remember Them
19.01.2022 Beautiful morning catching up with old friends and meeting new. The focus on our walk was noticing some of the magnificent trees along the way.
19.01.2022 Our pile of Christmas gifts for the children of Cherbourg is growing. Don't forget to drop your contribution in by Friday 11th December. We would love to fill a trailer.
19.01.2022 We share our Gubbi Gubbi/Joondoburri Country with a colony of Flying Fox. They really bother many in our community but we see this cohabitation as a very valuable learning opportunity. If we are passing by we always go quietly so as not to disturb the sleeping bats. Council mowed Joondoburri Walk natural pathways this morning and we note the unrest between the colony
18.01.2022 Today is National Gradparents Day. Thank you to not only our children’s Grandparents but to all of you far and wide. Words cannot convey the value of your love and care
18.01.2022 Cherished memories; care for elderly and children; unconditional and unbounded love and attention; candid moments.
17.01.2022 Being out and about in our community never disappoints!
17.01.2022 And it’s a wrap for another fabulous year with amazing children, wonderfully supportive families, the best ever community partners and volunteers and an exceptional, dedicated and fun to be with Team Bribie. No matter the challenges it still ended as one of our best years ever.

10.01.2022 Something for everyone in these treasure boxes
10.01.2022 STEM at kindy is occurring every day through observation, exploration, investigation, experimentation and most importantly PLAY and whilst it is occurring incidentally we are finding the children also enjoy planned ‘Science Experiments’ and especially these experiences with Tammy on Friday’s. Bouncy Egg Experiment Together our STEM Detectives explored the properties of vinegar (acid) and the structure of an egg.. By placing an egg in vinegar and leaving it for 24 hours. T...he outside of the egg shell disappears. The calcium of the egg shell is eaten away to leave the membrane of the egg. The eggs are bouncy. The membrane becomes like a balloon. If you press hard it will burst. The eggs have also been coloured by adding food colouring in the vinegar mix. And.......of course this ended in messy, sensory play...........our favourite type of PLAY. Play is not a break from learning. It is endless, delightful, deep, engaging, practical learning. It’s the doorway into the child’s heart! ~ Vince Gowmon.
10.01.2022 Interesting for our big and little followers. Don’t forget to look up
10.01.2022 These images that we hold in our mind following the privilege of witnessing the BIG smiles on the aged care residents screams........ CONNECTION but what stands out even more is the joy these connections bring. I hope our children always remember the joy that they brought to the ‘oldies’ who they visit week in and week out. Inside every old person is a young person wondering what happened. Terry Pratchett
10.01.2022 Today’s science experiment with Tammy. We made bubble snakes. Placing a dish cloth over the end of a cut bottle. We dipped the dish washer end into bubble mix, then BLEW (not suck) unfortunately some sucked and we have some children coughing) to make a bubble snake. The experiment was examining shapes of bubble and the space they take.
10.01.2022 Reminder for our 2021 families. Parent info session tonight 6-7pm Reminder for our 2021 families. Parent info session tonight 6-7pm
10.01.2022 Back in the day, when we were allowed to make our community friends gifts
09.01.2022 Once your kindy always your kindy. For those past kindy families who would like to support Aimee and family
09.01.2022 Freshly baked bread and freshly blended juice. The process was fun too!
09.01.2022 Today's experiment with Tammy was the classic diet coke and mentos geyser. All you need is diet soda and a few mentos. Our experiment explored the concepts of having variables in an experiment. We had one diet coke as our control. It was room temperature. One diet coke was cold. One diet coke was hot. We observed to see which fountain of coke would be the highest. It was the hot coke. Because the heat reacts with the gas and makes it move faster to the top of the bottle when the mentos fall into it. We also discovered the cold coke was the smallest fountain.
08.01.2022 Great twilight meet with the wonderful world renowned Niki Buchan learning more about Trauma informed practice and how we can better meet the needs of children in our care. Thankyou to those committed educators who joined us. It’s always a joy to spend time with likeminded folk who are willing to give up their precious time in order to become better versions of themselves for children. It’s not too late to join us and Niki tonight 6-8.30 to learn more about Big Book Documentation that is done WITH and FOR children. Give us a call on 34081788 for the chance to book a spot, share in conversations and have a sneak peek around our beautiful environment over a wine and snacks.
07.01.2022 This is where our collection of Christmas gifts were shared. Bringing a little bit of joy during this festive season. 07.01.2022 Developing the whole child..........
07.01.2022 Science Friday with Tammy Today we learnt about density and mixing. We made lava lamps. All you need is water with food colouring. (red food colouring). Then we poured in some oil. Any oil will do (vegetable, canola, baby). We noticed that the water and the oil does not mix. The oil stayed at the top and the water remained at the bottom of the cup. This... is because water is more dense and heavier than oil. Once we observed this we added an Alka Seltzer tablet. Alka Seltzer tablets are made up of bicarb soda and citric acid. When it dissolves in the water it causes a chemical reaction and creates bubbles. Because the water and oil do not mix, huge bubbles form and dance about the cup. We thought it looked like a volcano erupting. See more
06.01.2022 Extending on from our inflatable ghosts we learnt about gases and pressure. We ensured we all had safety glasses on or stood way back. Tammy mixed bicarb soda with a little water to make a paste and then placed the paste into the inside of the lid of a film canister. Vinegar (about half full) was added into the canister. Lid was firmly onto the canister and tipped upside down.... ................Stand back and wait for the explosion. There was considerable Force when the canisters did explode from the build up (pressure) of the gases inside the canisters from the chemical reactions. Words explored - gases, pressure, force and chemical reactions. No hands on for this one but lots of excitement!! See more
06.01.2022 Hands on maintenance work with Grant! Fixing rather than discarding is embedded within our sustainable practice. So many benefits - Intergenerational respect and relationships; working with real tools doing real work; pride of workmanship and working sustainably.
06.01.2022 Blessed to live, work and play on Gubbi Gubbi land.
05.01.2022 As a flow from yesterday the 'Spa Day' continues!
05.01.2022 Such a joy to see children's art here - and to help nurture talent from kindergarten . Children from Bribie Island Community Kindergarten made this beautiful do...lphin and turtle mosaic with guidance from mosaic artist Helen Riley. We're proud to display it here and invite you to come see what a gorgeous work it is. And 5-year-old Kindy kid Akari has painted/collaged this lovely colourful bird ..." cos I find birds easy'' she says. Well done Akari.
04.01.2022 Great day with Lyndon Davis and a dedicated group of ECEC Peeps. Walk on Countey to Dolphin Calling Point and the Fishtraps capturing fauna and flora information along the way. Returned to kindy to share more information that will help to build a Gubbi Gubbi Nation Seasonal Calendar. Today, I feel we really only have scratched the surface and I can also feel another action research project coming on. Thank-you Lyndon - One never tires of listening to this great mans stories.
04.01.2022 Beach Wednesday- one of our favourite days of the week .......building memories of a very special year!
04.01.2022 Such an emotionally charged and heartwarming visit to our aged care elders. We are just so proud of the connection and empathy emanating from our littlest citizens. My heart is so full today
04.01.2022 In simple terms, loose parts are moveable objects that can be used to create, explore and discover. Loose parts are play objects and materials that are open-ended, manipulative, moveable, and non-dictated. This means that children can use the materials in a variety of ways and there is no suggested way or story behind these materials. Loose parts allow children to act upon their environment the way that they want, rather than their imaginations and creativity being predetermined by the materials. Today we had quite a lot of house building...."BIG enough for all of the kids". And....look at all of the opportunity here to engage in heavy work pulling and pushing to build those upper body muscles.....especially shoulders and arms for future writing.
04.01.2022 We too are advocates for that second year if needed!
03.01.2022 The first of our goodbyes today. We will miss you Eva and Akari
03.01.2022 It's Science Friday and today we explored Energy. Tammy shared some rubber band cars made from bottle tops, paddle pop sticks and skewers. A rubber band was used to power our cars. We examined Potential Energy (stored energy) and Kinetic Energy (motion). Brady really enjoyed the rubber band cars. We also played with rockets made with straws. We used our Energy to create Force with our breath to power up the rocket ships.
03.01.2022 Another Farm Day with our Turtles
03.01.2022 Cherbourg Community Drive.....can you help? As a flow from our Christmas gift drive for the children of Cherbourg, we are now collecting much need items to help their families. Thanks to the support of Rotary Bribie Island we have a truck booked to take all that has been collected out to the Cherbourg Community. Collection date is Friday 30th April. ... We are calling on our families and the wider Bribie and Surrounds Community for donations of toys, furniture, and household items. Please ensure items are in good conditions and working order. Your donations can be dropped off at the kindy between 7.30am and 3pm Monday to Friday. We also need donations of packing boxes PLEASE. If we need to collect from you please let us know.
02.01.2022 A small selection of your beautiful handy work Noel Jensen
02.01.2022 Science Friday with Tammy. Today we discovered the strength of eggs. We discussed how when we squeeze and egg from top to bottom you actually cannot break the eggs. So then with much delight we discussed if we could walk on eggs. We all had turns at walking on eggs. If your weight is evenly distributed across the eggs you can walk on the eggs. A few did break because we angled our feet or walked on the edges. However, it was a great way to discover not everything we think is true is actually true. So, keep asking questions, making observations and testing ideas.
02.01.2022 There seems to be no tiring of the zip line and what a great way to build on that upper body strength
02.01.2022 Wishing nothing but the best of happy days and clear blue skies to everyone....... from our Educators to Management Committee, to Parents, to our wider Community members, to our much loved and appreciated volunteers and to our colleagues far and wide who inspire us. 02.01.2022 Beautiful one day and absolutely perfect the next! We had our first Beach day today and it was fabulous. Before leaving we had a big chat about the 3 agreements that apply not only at kindy but beyond our fence line when we are out and about in the community too! We must be safe, our buddies must be safe and the environment must be safe. Along the way we chatted about road safety and when we arrived at the Jetty we also talked about water safety. We never set out to get wet... but invariably we always do. We played in the sand, had a go at fishing and casting the line, collected a few shells, went up onto the Jetty and dropped the magnet line and retrieved small bits of metal waste from the ocean bed. Arlo also with the magnetic line caught a crab which was caught up in some seaweed. Oh and of course we had the customary hot chips from Savages Seafood See more
01.01.2022 Fabulous final outing for our Dolphin group of children. And...............the things you see on the way to the Museum.
