24.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: Here's a little look at one of the bathrooms in our place. Cabinetry designed by the wonderful team at Town & Country Designs. We chose to make this a family-friendly space, deciding on a 1200 wide Villeroy & Boch share basin with double taps and a nice big cast iron bathtub from the awesome crew at Parkwood Plumbing Centre. A nice deep shower recess was designed to avoid any glass screens! Styling by State 28 Interiors Photos by Alana Blowfield Photographer... 23.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: The plate wall project begins! Finally, our collection of plates we've lovingly hoarded over the last ten years, collected from family, friends and our travels overseas, will have their place on our wall.
22.01.2022 HOUSE NEWS: We've already mentioned a few times how much we've really loved working with Maggie and the team from Town & Country Designs. They did all the incredible work on our kitchen, laundry and bathrooms... and what a job they did. Just superb. So much so that they've been nominated as a FINALIST in the upcoming KBDI (The Kitchen & Bathroom Designers Institute of Australia) Awards under the category of Medium-Sized Kitchen category for their work on our home! We just sp...otted this little feature thanks to The English Tapware Company who have showcased the kitchen on their website, featuring their beautiful Perrin & Rowe Ionian mixer with spray rinse that we had installed on our island bench. http://www.englishtapware.com.au/inspirat/nanson-st-kitchen In addition, we've also heard that our master ensuite is a FINALIST in the same awards under the category of Large Bathrooms! Sending Maggie and the Town & Country team all the very best for the awards night on 17 September 2016 in Melbourne - we hope the judges love the kitchen and bathroom as much as we do. GOOD LUCK!

19.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: You have to splash out on the kitchen tap, right? Especially when it's front and centre on the island. Working with the wonderfully talented kitchen design team from Town & Country Designs, Maggie and Mel helped us source this stunning Perrin & Rowe mixer from The English Tapware Company - complete with its own little salad sprayer. We love it and the little black porcelain arms just set it off perfectly. Other items in this image include:... * Super amazing ovens by Miele Australia * Best gas cooktop ever by Highland * Roman blinds by Decor Blinds and Curtains using Zepel Fabrics * Huge, deep ribbed front fireclay butler sink sourced at Parkwood Plumbing Centre * Bianco Carrara marble benchtop in a honed finish by the team at Bravvo (www.bravvo.com.au) See more
17.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: Brass and blooms. Art and artisan. Just capturing a moment of time on the mantle as we finally begin to hang our favourite pieces of art and slowly fill the gaps with our treasures. This amazing piece of indigenous art by Kanakiya Tjanyari, titled 'Remembering Country' is a piece we purchased from the awesome team at Japingka Gallery - Aboriginal Art. It's all thanks to our beautiful Nonna, whose little cash contributions for birthdays and Christmas over th...e years, we stashed away and saved to buy something that we can always have with us. It's a spectacular piece and has found its home in the living room above the fireplace. The brass vases we picked up online from HARKLO and we have a matching hanging planter that needs to find its home somewhere in the house too. We recently picked up a few of these beautiful new reed diffusers to pop around the home from Haylie at Allumé Candle Co. - she does an amazing job on packaging her products and creating exquisite fragrances. We couldn't go past the Rose Water & Peony combo - perfect. Our roses in the front garden are going gangbusters too. The team at Country Earth helped us with our landscaping and recommended these beauties for mass planting along the front of the porch. They're a rose variety called "Best Friends" and their perfume reminds you of the old school rose bushes your grandparents used to have - incredible. They're prolific bloomers too, so the more you snip the more you're rewarded!
17.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: A little update on our place - with a view from the lounge into the kitchen. We have many people to thank for helping us get to this point - especially the team from Town & Country Designs who have really delivered on our kitchen (as well as the other wet areas throughout the home). The lounge and dining space has been divided by an awesome double-sided fireplace we picked up at Subiaco Restoration, with the feature adorned by one our favourite pieces of art... from Japingka Gallery - Aboriginal Art. The lounge has been finished off beautifully with this stunning rug from Rustic Charm Interiors and incredible 5 metre drop of curtains from Decor Blinds and Curtains. Lights were sourced from our own new lighting venture, The Montauk Lighting Co.
16.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: After all the beautiful work Town & Country Designs did on creating our kitchen and bathrooms, we just had to make sure the laundry wasn't forgotten and was showered with a bit of love. Well, this little, slightly awkward room, ended up getting a whole lotta love! The laundry has a long, skinny layout so making the most of the space was important. It had to have plenty of storage as well as fit in the washing machine and dryer under the bench. Not only did w...e manage to create a very decent sized walk-in storage cupboard at one end, but also a really useful ironing and drying closet at the other - which comes complete with hanging space for all the ironing as well as some sneaky storage for the ironing board. Keeping in theme with the rest of the wet areas, the laundry had to have the full treatment too, so we opted to continue using the Caesarstone Australia Sleek Concrete benchtops in here, just as our bathrooms along with a beautiful double butler sink (benchtops supplied by Bravvo Stone). We opted to continue with the consistency and used the same hexagonal floor tiles and the handcut spanish subway tiles on the wall as per the bathrooms. Phoenix Tapware have a fantastic kitchen mixer with pull out spray in the same range as all our other taps, so it was a perfect match really. This little space packs a punch and is very functional and user friendly. It looks great and delivered us the storage we were looking for, in bucket loads.
15.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: A new favourite spot in the house our little sitting room upstairs which gets flooded by beautiful afternoon sunlight all completed recently thanks to the styling genius of Miriam Terry from State 28 Interiors. It features the ‘Madeline’ chair by Diane Bergeron Design for Arthur G pieces we absolutely fell in love with thanks to Miriam! You can also find the ‘Scala’ double A-Frame bookshelf and ‘Arty’ ottoman in tan leather at Arthur G. 12.01.2022 GREAT OUTDOORS: Poolside scene. The Birds of Paradise have started to flower magnificently and look amazing against the Venetian plastered walls. These have still managed to thrive a few years on after we yanked them from our old place in Coogee. Thanks again Matt and Chris from Sky High Renders for a kick arse job on the render. We actually had the neighbourhood kids doing some parkour moves on the front fence this arvo. They say it's the best fence in the street! Haven't quite enjoyed our pool yet Boardwalk Pools but we'll getting there soon enough.
10.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: The upstairs main bathroom was designed with children in mind, servicing the two bedrooms at the front of the top floor. In doing so we opted for a shared, communal-like double sink. The "trough" is 1200mm long with two separate basin mixers and it's a winner. This one's from Villeroy & Boch and we sourced it through Parkwood Plumbing Centre, just as we did with most of our plumbing fittings. We opted not to put a toilet in this bathroom for functional reas...ons, rather, we popped one right next door complete with its own little wash basin. Found a great Kaldawei, cast-iron and enameled bath. It's deep and a great size to bath a couple of kids in. It also acts as a nice little barrier for the shower which sits next to it. With all the showers in our house, we designed them to not require glass shower screens. They're all open, walk-in showers with plenty of depth in them to not have to worry about water splashing all over the place. We also dropped the floor level in the shower recess to avoid flooding and so on. So far, so good! And nice not to have to squeegy the glass after every shower! Town & Country Designs worked on all our cabinetry and even custom made a mirror for us in this bathroom, complete with matching side panels to house some great lights we sourced from overseas. We love our benchtop selection in this bathroom too - we went with Caesarstone Australia's Sleek Concrete. Great colour, lovely matt finish and just perfect for the look we were after. As with all our benchtops, these were supplied by supplied and installed by Bravvo Stone. We are also really happy with our tapware from Phoenix Tapware. Pleasantly surprised at just how solid, heavy and well made this range of tapware is... and well priced too. With our tiles we opted to use these gorgeous patterned hexagonal tiles as a feature in a few areas throughout the home. In this bathroom, we focused on the bath hob - we sourced these Spanish made tiles at Forezzi.
10.01.2022 GREAT OUTDOORS: Ok, let's do this... good choice of colour Marie! A little bit of blush pink lime paint in a colour called 'Melrose' for the backyard from the Bauwerk Colour collaboration with Mon Palmer. Colour choice inspired by one special little girl. #brickbybrickproject #brickbybrick #ownerbuilder #selfbuild #outdoors #landscape #garden #poolside #bauwerkcolour #monpalmerxbauwerk #monpalmer #limepaint #pink #blush #melrose

05.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: The powder room that sits just off the main living and dining areas is one of our favourite rooms. It might be small, but it's mighty. We love the way this room has turned out. It's got a luxey feel about it and reminds us of our travels to NYC. We decided in this room to continue the herringbone marble tiles on the floor up one of the walls. The black nero marquina marble border does the same and we just love the definition it gives the space. We hadn't in...tended on painting this room in an almost black, but we're glad we went out on a whim and did. It's a Dulux Australia colour called Domino and it's totally ace. We picked up our Villeroy & Boch basins and toilets from the awesome team at Parkwood Plumbing Centre, along with the beautiful Phoenix Tapware installed throughout the house. Maggie from Town & Country Designs delivered on the cabinetry in this room just as she did in all of our wet areas and kitchen. We also splurged a little on the handles on this cabinet, finally giving in to these solid brass beauties from Armac Martin. Of course, we've talked about our love of the Lee Broom decanterlight before, but here it is in all its lit and glittering glory. We've also just begun to adorn the walls of our house with our much-loved possessions, including our little collection of antique mirrors. One has found a home here in the powder room - we picked most of them up at Trishs place in North Freo. Now we just need to figure out what sort of artwork we'll place on the wall opposite the marble feature...
05.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: Monochromatic moods fill the guest powder room just off the kitchen and dining. We went a little more risque with our selections in this little room, because we figured it was the smallest room in the house, and that we could! :) And everyone loves a good looking toilet, right? We opted for a luxey, old school vibe and after deciding to use the marble tiles on the floor to create a herringbone pattern - we extended it up one of the walls to create a real fea...ture. The white carrara marble tiles on the floor are bordered by a beautiful black nero marquinia marble tile and that also extends up the feature wall as well as using them to create a tile skirting. We sourced our tiles from the team at Forezzi. For a bit of drama, we opted for Dulux Australia colour Domino. Looks great against the tiles, and the black cabinetry. We sourced our internal doors through M&B Building Products - and love how they've come up. We're really happy with the small details in the house too, like the door handles, skirting boards and architrave frames that we sourced through the awesome team at Subiaco Restoration.
02.01.2022 GREAT OUTDOORS: So the pool area is coming along a treat, and all the main elements are done and dusted. Boardwalk Pools have been so great to deal with throughout the process and have delivered us exactly what we wanted, and the equipment that's been installed allows for really easy maintenance of the pool. The robotic cleaner that's been delivered is the best thing since sliced bread and cleans the pool immaculately and in record time - it even climbs the walls (and steps) ...and vacuums the tiles at the water line! We've said it before and we'll say it again... we love our pool fencing from Sentrel Balustrade and Pool Fencing and so many people have commented on it. It's such a great new product and again, really easy to maintain and keep clean. Matt and Chris from Sky High Renders did a beautiful job on our feature Venetian Plaster finish on the boundary walls, so much so that we decided to use the same product on the fence at the front of the house. It's starting to really take effect now after some sun and rain - ageing nicely with a stunning patina forming. Our little deck is starting to lighten up too - we chose a timber called Fijian Mahogany which essentially silvers up if you don't stain or seal it. With the full sun and weather hitting it, it's only taken a few months to start showing its silvery features. We've got a few more pots to purchase to place against the wall and add some contrast against the plastered finish - thankfully, we had some good advice from our friends at Country Earth with regards to reticulation and have plenty of sprinkler points all ready to hook into along the fence line that'll keep our pots well watered.
02.01.2022 INTERIOR SNIPPET: It's a 5.5 metre drop, a pretty massive undertaking and a statement-maker for sure. And we're so damn glad we decided on going with curtains for our living area. The team at Decor Blinds and Curtains excelled at executing this feature in our home, from advising us at the get-go, helping us select the best working fabric for a job of this size, to explaining the best method for opening and closing, right through to installation. We went with a beautiful linen...-look fabric from James Dunlop (We Love Fabric) that's given us the privacy we wanted along with providing plenty of dappled light right throughout the day. It's amazing what some texture and fabric can do for a space too. The curtains immediately transformed the room and they also create such a different mood during the day and night depending on whether they're opened or closed. We also opted to have some block out roller blinds installed in the top section of windows to assist with keeping the heat out in the height of summer. The entire living area of the home is north facing so cops a fair bit of direct sunlight for most of the day. It's beautiful, but it can get warm too! The team at Decor helped us automate these blinds and curtains with a remote control system for ease of use. The system is really easy to use, nice and concealed behind the feature rails and means that we won't be putting unnecessary wear and tear on the curtains and fabric given the long drop. So thrilled with the end result.
01.01.2022 GREAT OUTDOORS: A quiet little corner in the backyard where texture and colour meet. Venetian plaster walls by Sky High Renders and our finished Bauwerk Colour walls in Mon Palmer 'Melrose'. Love our collection of big outdoor pots from The Balcony Garden which get to hold our old Frangipani clippings from Coogee. . #brickbybrickproject #brickbybrick #ownerbuilder #selfbuild #outdoors #landscape #garden #poolside #bauwerkcolour #monpalmerxbauwerk #monpalmer #limepaint #pink #blush #melrose #balconygarden #flowers #frangipani
