03.01.2022 Recently we had it reinforced to us just how important it is to use competent and qualified Automotive Glaziers for fitting the glass to your vehicle. The photos here demonstrate the different between a good and a bad fitting job. The black bead you see in the photos is the urethane bead that bonds the glass to your vehicle body. Obviously, a uniform and straight bead is preferable to one that is not uniform and which is only contacting the glass or aperture intermittently a...s this will weaken the strength of the bond. Why is this so important? Because the bond is what helps protect you in an accident and also stops water leaks. You can also see the cloth trim is cut from the previous fitter not using the right tools to remove the old urethane bead to make it ready for a new bead. The vehicle aperture was also scratched from the use of the wrong tools and there was no attempt to cover the scratch to stop rust developing. Unfortunately we see this far to regularly. So when you are faced with a cheaper quote, please ask yourself if it is worth the savings initially and more importantly, ask the fitter of their qualifications. Also it is important to ask what preparation is undertaken to prepare the glass for fitting. For example, the glass face where the urethane bead is to bond to must be free of all silicone residue from manufacturing and have appropriate primers applied to promote good adhesion. I hope this Post helps when you need to make a decision about vehicle glass replacement. See more
