12.01.2022 This weekend I had the chance to attend a presentation dinner for Tag a Mate which was followed by a fishing charter trip aboard the MV Princess. Shane Webke ga...ve a speech at the dinner and it was incredible to listen to. If you know me, footy goes as far as state of origin and knowing the name of a football team and saying you "go for them". So meeting a footy player is kind of like meeting the local weather man. So after listening to this man speak about mens mental health and some of his own personal things, I have a huge appreciation for him and what it would look like to walk in his shoes. What a legend and what an honor to experience. One of the things he spoke about was the connection between being physically fit and how exerting yourself can keep everything in balance. My training would be nothing compared to what he would do, but my own life is the same. I physically feel like I need to go burn some energy when I am unbalanced. I am better for it when I do to. Today we went fishing on a Charter Boat. 12 lads from various corners who are having a tough go of it, confined to a vessel and sent out in the deep blue to catch fish. It was apparent early on that someone had brought along either bananas or one was really a woman, as no "monsters" were caught. But plenty of smaller fish were caught by all and it was a cracker of a day. I had a chance to talk with some good blokes and take some pictures of them while doing so. I got to see various connections and friendships and what mateship looks like. Spell check cant fix mateship as I guess it is not a word. But it is a word we all speak so you know what I am talking about. I hope you all have mateship. If you don't, you need it. For some of these guys, it saved their life. Thank you for the experience and it was incredible to be a part of. #tagamate See more

04.01.2022 What a wonderful way to mark World Mental Health Day with the Tah a Mate Take a Break project in Hervey Bay. Thanks you to our guest speakers Shane Webcke and Peter Grumley (Fraser Coast Mates) for sharing important stories about staying connected and talking when times are tough. 12 men from the North Burnett are off on a fishing charter tomorrow - mates who nominated a friend who had been through hardship to take this time out this weekend. Thank you to Mantra Hervey Bay for going above and beyond with your hospitality. This is an initiative funded by the Queensland Government Tackling Regional Adversity through Integrated Care grant program, managed by Bridges Health & Community Care.

02.01.2022 TAG A MATE FOR WELLBEING The North Burnett has experienced both natural disasters and loss of industry over several years that have impacted the community. Taking time out for wellbeing and fun is vital to getting through these tough times. The Tag a Mate, Take a Break Project is offering this opportunity to men in the North Burnett. 20 men will be selected through an Expression of Interest process for the Tag a Mate, Take a Break Men’s Fishing Retreat. It includes a weeke...nd in Hervey Bay staying at the Mantra for one night, a half day fishing charter on the Princess II and dinner on the Saturday evening with speakers including special guest, TV presenter and ex-rugby player, Shane Webcke. The weekend is timed for International Mental Health Day on Saturday 10th October. Half of the men will go fishing on the Saturday and the other half on the Sunday, with a dinner with Shane Webcke on the Saturday night, encouraging us all to take time for our wellbeing. Men wishing to nominate a Mate can apply using a form available through libraries in the North Burnett later this week or they can be downloaded from the Bridges website at: https://www.bas.org.au/mental-heal/tag-a-mate-take-a-break/ The completed forms can be posted to Bridges (details on the flyer) or emailed [email protected] by Friday 18th September. An internal panel of staff will assess the EOIs and notify applicants of outcome by Friday 25th September by phone or email. The Tag a Mate, Take a Break project is a project being managed by Bridges Health & Community Care and is an initiative funded by the Queensland Government Tackling Regional Adversity through Integrated Care grant program.
