23.01.2022 She’s living my dream life. The Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, just out there feeding her beloved chickens in a ball gown. Shortly before her death she published a cookbook that began with the words I haven’t cooked since the war." I don’t know this woman. But I love this woman.

18.01.2022 As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children an untruth. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. However, that was impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard. Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he did not play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he const...Continue reading

16.01.2022 For a small amount of perspective at this moment, imagine you were born in 1900. When you are 14, World War I starts, and ends on your 18th birthday with 22 million people killed. Later in the year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until you are 20. Fifty million people die from it in those two years. Yes, 50 million. When you're 29, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, global GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collaps...es along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet. When you're 41, the United States is fully pulled into WWII. Between your 39th and 45th birthday, 75 million people perish in the war and the Holocaust kills six million. At 52, the Korean War starts and five million perish. At 64 the Vietnam War begins, and it doesn’t end for many years. Four million people die in that conflict. Approaching your 62nd birthday you have the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tipping point in the Cold War. Life on our planet, as we know it, could well have ended. Great leaders prevented that from happening. As you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends. Think of everyone on the planet born in 1900. How do you survive all of that? A kid in 1985 didn’t think their 85 year old grandparent understood how hard school was. Yet those grandparents (and now great grandparents) survived through everything listed above. Perspective is an amazing art. Let’s try and keep things in perspective. Let’s be smart, help each other out, and we will get through all of this. In the history of the world, there has never been a storm that lasted. This too, shall pass. Copied from another post. Feel free to share.

14.01.2022 She asked him, 'How much are you selling the eggs for?' The old seller replied, '$.25 an egg, Madam.' She said to him, 'I will take 6 eggs for $1.25 or nothing!' The old seller replied, 'Come, take them at the price you want. Maybe, this is a good beginning because I have not been able to sell even a single egg today.'... She took the eggs and walked away feeling she had won. She got into her fancy car and went to a posh restaurant with her friend. There, she and her friend, ordered whatever they liked. They ate a little and left a lot of what they ordered. Then she went to pay the bill. The bill costed her $45.00, she gave $50.00 and asked the owner of the restaurant to keep the change. This incident might have seemed quite normal to the owner but, very painful to the poor egg seller. The point is, Why do we always show we have the power when we buy from the needy ones? And why do we get generous to those who do not even need our generosity? I once read somewhere: 'My Grandfather use to buy simple goods from poor people at high prices, even though he did not need them. Sometimes he even used to pay extra for them. I got concerned by this act and asked him why does he do so? Then my Grandfather replied, "It is a charity wrapped with dignity, my child! via Anonymous

13.01.2022 Oh WOW, sooo many fun and funky elements make up this humour-packed 3D triptych. Cool swing! In pictures, it tells the story of what makes Bridgetown, Western A...ustralia shine. It's "Fridgetown", WA's winter playground. It's tree-lined streets. It's a place with no sharks! "Go on, take a selfie. You know you want to!" By local artist Nik Fabiszak, "A Hill of a Great Place" really does encourage interaction thanks to the many many hours she invested in creating this unusual gem. It's part of a four-kilometre long, 19-piece art trail which showcases fabulous creativity and the picturesque town in the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes. 11.01.2022 Saw this the other day... I don’t know who originally wrote it but it’s brilliant! Every minute someone leaves this world behind. We are all in the line without knowing it. We never know how many people are before us. ... We can not move to the back of the line. We can not step out of the line. We can not avoid the line. So while we wait in line - Make moments count. Make priorities. Make the time. Make your gifts known. Make a nobody feel like a somebody. Make your voice heard. Make the small things big. Make someone smile. Make the change. Make love. Make up. Make peace. Make sure to tell your people they are loved. Make sure to have no regrets. Make sure you are ready.

06.01.2022 WELCOME TO DJILBA Are you ready for the change of season? August and September sees the arrival of Djiba, the Nyoongar season of conception a time to l...ook for yellow and cream flowers starting to bloom on mass. Djilba is a transitional time of the year, with some very cold and clear days combining with warmer, rainy and windy days mixing with the occasional sunny day or two. This is the start of the massive flowering explosion that happens in the South West which starts with yellow flowering plants such as acacias. Others colours that are around at this time of year are creams, combined with some vivid and striking blues. Traditionally, the main food sources were land-based grazing animals included the Yongar (kangaroo), the Waitj (emu) and the Koomal (possum). As the days start to warm up, the first newborns of these species would start to be seen with proud parents out and about finding food, teaching them to forage and protecting family units from bigger animals, including people. The woodland birds will still be nest-bound which means the swooping protective behavior of the Koolbardi (Magpie) starts to ramp up and, if watched closely, so to do the Djidi Djidi (Willy Wag Tails) and the Chuck-a-luck (Wattle Birds) among others. As the season progresses and the temperatures continue to rise, the flower stalks of the Balgas (Grass Trees)will emerge in preparation for the coming Kambarang season. The Nyoongar calendar has six seasons, each representing the changes we see in the environment. Learn more about the six seasons on the Bureau of Meteorology's website: https://bit.ly/2rP5zbx Parks and Wildlife, Western Australia. Bureau of Meteorology.

04.01.2022 push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise. push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable. lie in your garden, feel the sunshine on your skin. get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry... an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else. stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything. buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice. buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small. strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. wash, then hang them in the sunshine with care. make your bed in full. dig your fingers into the earth, plant a seed. see your success as it grows everyday. organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle. breathe. practice your deep breathing. ground yourself. have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck. push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog. message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. push yourself to follow through. think long and hard about what interests you. crime? sex? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything. become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. help an animal. compliment people on their cute clothes. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends. lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you...
