24.01.2022 The Bridgetown Agricultural Society Committee would like to say 'Thank You!' to everyone who came to be a part of and support our 131st Bridgetown Show on Saturday. Thank you to Jenny Wright for opening our show (Jenny, your words really summed up what a country show is all about), to our Stewards and their helpers for the time they give to ensure our community can showcase it's many talents, to our many other volunteers who give time before, during and after show day and to our many generous sponsors that help to make the day extra special for all our winners. AND last but certainly not least a very special THANK YOU goes to Talison Minerals for their kind donation of free entry for kids. All results have now been posted on our website www.bridgetownshow.com.au -see you next year! #bridgetownshow #bridgetownwa #greenbushes

20.01.2022 XXXX EVENT CANCELLED XXXX It is with great regret that we have to advise that the Bridgetown Community Picnic Day on 28th November is cancelled. Our volunteer committee have undertaken considerable work over the past weeks and months to develop a Covid Safety Plan for a reduced-scale event under WA’s COVID Stage 4 guidelines. Unfortunately in late September, the WA Govt added considerable additional requirements for events where 500 or more visitors are expected. These addit...ional requirements are beyond the capacity of our small volunteer led community. In conjunction with the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes we looked at our options for ensuring that we can come under this 500 person limit. Unfortunately it is now clear that we cannot achieve this. We therefore thank you sincerely for your support at this difficult time, and we will work hard to make next year’s show the best and most successful ever. See more

18.01.2022 Due to the uncertainty of the year ahead and unpredictable nature of the current pandemic, the Bridgetown Agricultural Society would like to inform everyone that it is unable to host its traditional Show. However, the council has decided it’s essential to help keep our spirits up by bringing our community together and are in the process of planning a Community Event to be held on Saturday 28th November from 12 noon to 8.30pm. The event will involve community participation wit...h sideshows, music, entertainment, displays and the much-loved fireworks. This Community Event is being made possible thanks to the generosity of the South West Development Commission, the local Shire, our members and sponsors who continued to make financial contributions, and our volunteer led Council who devote their time to managing the grounds and bringing you the show. We are mindful that things can change quickly in either direction by November, so our best intentions are to plan an event that is fun, safe and financially viable. All of our volunteers will be focused on COVID safety and best practises. We look forward to celebrating with you in November, and hope to be on the road to planning a bigger and better Bridgetown Show in 2021. Further information about our Community Event will be made available in the coming weeks. Yours sincerely Bridgetown Agricultural Society Committee

12.01.2022 Oops! We made a mistake! Recently we sent an open letter out to our members and sponsors explaining our plans for a community event in place of the traditional show for this year. We are aware many sponsors and members still wish to support the Agricultural Society with a donation for the proposed event and continued upkeep of the grounds and because of this the bank details were included in the letter. Unfortunately, we included the wrong account details, do not fret though,... if you paid into this account your money will bounce back as it is still an account that belongs to us it just cannot be paid into. If you have the details saved from last year it is the same account. You can confirm the correct details with us using the contact details on the letter or any donations can be placed in an envelope and dropped off to the show box at Bridgetown Newsagency. Thank you to our sponsors, members and community for your continued support. #bridgetownshow #bridgetownwa See more

11.01.2022 Have you ever heard of, been to or lived in Bridgetown? Let us take you there.. Your State Library is featuring WA regional towns on its Facebook Page. It's an ...opportunity to share stories and connect with old friends. Share your memories and old photographs in the comment section of this post. Recently featured towns include Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Busselton, Mandurah, Port Hedland and Merredin. Bridgetown is a town in the South West region of Western Australia, 270 kilometres south of Perth. The town was originally known as Geegelup by its traditional owners the Noongar Aboriginal people. Meaning place of gilgies (referring to the plentiful local freshwater crayfish) or place of spears. European settlers arrived in 1857 leasing land for grazing stock. The first homestead, "Bridgedale", still exists today. In 1861, convicts built the road from Donnybrook into the area. The townsite was surveyed in 1868 by Thomas Carey, who proposed the name Bridgetown. The town was gazetted in the same year. After that many buildings including a primary school (1870), post office and two hotels were constructed, many of which are still standing today. In 1885, the Bridgetown Agricultural Society was formed and local farmers produced sheep, cattle, dairy products, timber, fruit and nuts. During the gold boom days and federation, Bridgetown prospered and saw a considerable increase in settlement of the region. The apple industry came into its own in 1905 when the first production orchard trees came to maturity, and this product in its own right helped put Bridgetown on the agricultural map. From the late 1970s, the Bridgetown area became increasingly attractive to tourists as a tranquil, historic and picturesque country town. Each year, the town hosts many events including the Agricultural Show and the Bridgetown Easter Tennis Tournament, both of which trace their routes back to the 1920's.
