24.01.2022 In Canberra today. #March4Justice
24.01.2022 Planning Decisions Committee, PDC formally IDAC. Please get in contact if you have a Nicholls matter scheduled for any Planning Committee.
21.01.2022 I noticed that there is now a list of Advisory Committees of Council on the Yarra website. Some Committee links provide a great deal of information like Minutes of past meetings, date of next meeting etc. See: https://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/about-us/committees
20.01.2022 The plaque to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the first woman elected to any tier of government in Victoria.
19.01.2022 The results are in! An amazing citizen scientist long term project, providing important data to aid conservation efforts.
19.01.2022 Everyone should watch this in full, the most impressive speech at the NPC for a very long time. Given the absolutely inadequate response to recent allegations of sexual misconduct at the highest level of government and the need for systematic change, there has been a call to action on 15 March, for women to march on Canberra. I will be there. https://www.reddit.com//australian_of_the_year_grace_tame/
18.01.2022 The first Council Meeting Agenda is now available here. Items on the Agenda include: 8. Mayoral and Councillor Allowances The discrepancy of $60.220.10 between the allowance of the Mayor and the eight other elected representatives indicates a hierarchical structure is built into the system. We all know some Councillors put in a great deal of time and others just want ‘Councillor’ on their CV. Some of our newly elected Councillors are already calling for monthly (rather than ...fortnightly) public Council meetings due to the excessive time commitment involved in doing the bare minimum to represent you. My view is that an allowance discrepancy does not facilitate a more collaborative approach and in effect, works as a delegation of powers to one elected representative. My interest is in how this translates to access to information, staff advice and decision-making more broadly. 9. Three Notices of Motion from our new Green majority 9.1 A Green New Deal from Cr Amanda Stone 9.2 Fast Tracking Zero Carbon Developments in the Planning Scheme from Cr Amanda Stone 9.3 Public Housing and Inclusionary Zoning from Mayor de Vietri. Note the change in the Order of Business too. See more

11.01.2022 We have at least one Powerful Owl roosting in Yarra. She was wearing a tracking device for a little while and the data showed she visits most of the Parks in Yarra every night, including pocket parks. The Merri Creek Management Committee held a webinar on urban relationships with magnificent Powerful Owls. Urban Ecologist and PhD Candidate, Nick Bradsworth (Deakin University), and Senior Biodiversity Officer, Craig Lupton (City of Yarra), shared their experience of the secre...t lives of Powerful Owls (Ninox strenua) in inner Melbourne. You can watch it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVFPoyxpPw0&feature=emb_logo https://mcmc.org.au/living-together-powerful-owls-in-yarra- This species is extremely vulnerable to cats outdoors at night. We need urgent Council action to protect Yarra's biodiversity. Become a citizen scientist and share your sighting data and find out more about this species in the link provided in the first comment.
10.01.2022 Thankyou. An honour to represent our community.
09.01.2022 The news is just in! Thank you for all the support.
09.01.2022 After a couple of years on Council I have finally managed to get a cat curfew up for consideration. We seem to have a significant under registration of cats - community cats, that no one is responsible for. Also, there is a great deal of community interest in reduced registration fees for cats who never leave the house, that have a cat enclosure or live in apartments. Another item of community interest is more off lead dog parks and dogs being kept on lead in wildlife sensitive areas such as the green corridors along the Yarra River, the Merri and Darebin Creeks. 09.01.2022 Fruit season is coming. Please consider our wildlife. Only use wildlife safe netting. This is an extract from a much longer article I wrote. https://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au//help-protect-our-wildlife
08.01.2022 Just fledging. Learning to fly aint easy! Many call outs for L platers who are all very vulnerable to off-lead dogs.
07.01.2022 We need OUR Grace back in Yarra too!
07.01.2022 From Imogen, our 'gender mainstreaming' champion, on my re-election. At 5 years old she has started a campaign to have Yarra's pedestrian light crossings contain skirts as well as pants. Watch out for this young woman in the future! See her petition link: https://www.change.org/p/councillors-at-the-city-of-yarra-p
06.01.2022 OMG! Policies can be found here: https://www.yarracity.vic.gov.au//strategies-policies-plans
06.01.2022 It would have been great to have a discussion about the importance of phasing out glyphosate, an extra heritage officer and other issues relevant to the budget. I would be interested as to why the Mayor did not allow any debate.
05.01.2022 Excellent initiative. Thank you! I feel truly honoured to represent such an engaged and erudite community. https://www.youtube.com/watch
05.01.2022 Just given this lovely gift. Thank you my local Milk Bar proprietors! They love me dropping off my excess herb seedlings to share with neighbours.
05.01.2022 Awards Night for the Nicholls Campaign Team. Awards for Our Grey Haired Foxy Flyer Co-Ordinator, Our Zoom Zeitgeist & Meeting Mistress, Our Proof Reading Profit & Woman of Words, to name just a few. Lots of fun! An amazing team and I would never be standing for re-election without the support of so many in our wonderful and diverse community. Thank you to all those who contributed to our community campaign.
04.01.2022 Our new Council just elected Cr de Vietri and Cr Nguyen to Mayor and Deputy Mayor. I congratulate both brand newly elected representatives on their elevation into these challenging roles. You can watch the proceedings here: http://webcast.yarracity.vic.gov.au/video.php
03.01.2022 Because the community have vocalised it, I have always argued to keep weekly pickups! The community in Richmond are now running a petition.
