25.01.2022 Love me a good gin and tonic every now and again but it doesn’t always love me or my skin... So I love now that there are more non alcoholic fun drinks that aren’t packed full of sugar! These Monday distillery drinks are super cute, refreshing and taste just like an G&T! I have tried the classic version from TNHWC in the past, but just got my hands on the exotic spice version! They also do a dark & stormy and paloma, which are both on my want to try list. Having some alcohol free days doesn’t have to be boring.

25.01.2022 This life is no dress rehearsal... you're in-charge of your own path.

25.01.2022 What dried fruit is this??? . . . .... . . . If you guess an apricot, you’re the winner!!! Sulfites (like Sulfur dioxide) are natural found in some foods. However it’s also used as an additive to maintain colour and shelf life of aged ingredients. This is how non organic dried apricots keep their orange colour and tart flavour, plus they tend to have a longer expiry date. Those with a sensitivity to sulphites tend to react to dried fruits because of this. But you will also find sulphites in wine, deli meats, sausages, vegetables juices, some pickled food ect. Look on the back of labels and if there is there number 220-228 it’s usually a sulphite. Personally not only do I prefer not to have added preservatives where I can help it... but I personally prefer the sweetness and softness of organic dried apricots (even if they don’t look as appealing). Have you tried organic dried apricots? What do you prefer? .

24.01.2022 I’m a crazy herb lady but with good reason. Being able to make individual blends of herbal magic is why I love my job. This is where I believe holistic medicine shows it’s true power. Being able to blend something individual for that person, not just a one size fits all approach. I could have 4 patients with acne... one might need hormonal support, the other might need to focus on the blood sugar, the next one might be coming off the OCP and feeling stressed that their acn...e will come back, then the last might need all of that combined! I would have 4 different mixtures, with 4 different herbal combinations, and 4 different time frames. This is the magic of individualised holistic care.

23.01.2022 Taking the time to connect with the earth. Feeling the damp grass between my toes and the warm sun on my skin. Not being able to get some bushwalking time in with the current restrictions has been tough. But I still make sure I connect with nature in some way. Because for me it’s what recharges my battery. My problems don’t seem so big when I have the earth to share them with. Finding those rituals or support systems that energise you and don’t drain you is important all the time, but especially at the moment.

22.01.2022 The introvert in me is enjoying all the local click and collect options

21.01.2022 Could you also fall to sleep standing up like miss Molly here? Are you hitting your afternoon slump?? Our bodies naturally hit a lower stage in the afternoon as part of our circadian rhythm. But also it may be a sign that you have had a drop in blood sugar (due to a spike earlier in the day).... If you haven’t had adequate protein or too many refined carbohydrates for breakfast or lunch.. it’s sets your body up for fluctuations in blood sugar throughout the day. Hyperinsulinemia (chronic high insulin) has been associated with many skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, cellulitis, hidradentis suppurativa, skin tags... Maintaining healthy blood sugar throughout the day isn’t just important for the prevention of diabetes and other chronic conditions, it’s also really important for our skin health! Making sure you pair each of your meals with a good quality protein and fat source can help! If you would like to find out more, please book an appointment to have a chat.

21.01.2022 Morning spent virtually speaking some beautiful patients. Now finishing some notes outside in the fresh air I’m so grateful that I get to continue to support some amazing women on their skin journeys and overall health during these times. . .

21.01.2022 With current stage 4 restrictions and reducing the amount of contact with others. As of Thursday I’m only offering online consultations for the next 6 weeks. Online I’m still able to offer the same amazing care as I can from a face to face consult. With all supplements being either picked up (if within 5km of Somerville) or posted out! I feel so privileged to be able to support my patients during this time. And I will be there for whoever needs. ... Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.

20.01.2022 Join me in my half asleep state for some slow cooker dinner prep. If Masterchef had a show with messy slow cooker contestants, I think I might win.

20.01.2022 My form of meditation today... listening to the rain with the flowers. Mediation doesn’t always have to look a particular way. It’s just about being present in the moment. Focusing on the sounds and smell of what is around me... releasing anything being held in my body and giving it to the earth.

20.01.2022 How is everyone feeling??? It’s been a year... even though the 1st of January won’t magically fix our problems. There’s always an extra power to the energy in December (It’s my birthday month so I may be a little biased). Things may be winding down for you, wrapping things up, you may be looking at plans next year, or just shifting into a new phase. Either way you can feel an energy shift. It’s been so wonderful here in Victoria, being able to catch up with more family and fr...iends. Making those in person connections that feel extra special this year. But I also want to say that it’s okay if you’re feeling tired. This year has been a real test on our nervous system... So take your time. Enjoy the small moments and be sure to replenish yourself in between.

19.01.2022 My latest blog on the ecology website. All about the omegas and skin health. In particular what you should think about before choosing a fish oil supplement. ... https://ecologyskincare.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-omega-3s/

18.01.2022 Getting in early to let you all know that I’m taking a mini break over the Christmas/New Year period. Taking some time to recharge before an exciting 2021! For my existing patients or those who are interested in working with me this year... there are still some days available.... Feel free to message me for any additional details. .

17.01.2022 Pollen is coming... Melbourne is one of the allergy capitals of the world! With our hay fever season expanding longer than most areas. But if you suffer for hay fever, there are some things you can do with your diet and lifestyle to support your body during this time. ... Don’t suffer another hay fever season alone, booked to have a chat with your local Naturopath or health care practitioner. .

16.01.2022 Does your social media feed ‘spark joy’ for you? Doing things to support our mental health is more important than ever. And with more and more of us spending time on social media, the type content we consume daily is really important. Follow those that make you laugh, inspire you, educate you or just generally add something to your life. Don’t be afraid to unfollow or mute those that don’t. ... Also find those things outside of social media that also spark joy for you. And take breaks or time away from it all from time to time.

15.01.2022 Adding some fresh herbs to dinner for some extra micronutrients and digestive goodness!!!

14.01.2022 This Overwhelm and anxieties can actually prevent us from taking action. Which then leads us on a cycle of overwhelming and anxiety. Instead of carrying this weight, learn to rise up and climb them. You can start with just a small step, one foot in front of the other.

13.01.2022 Thank you to the beautiful @_jddesign_ for this special Father’s Day creation Sending all my love to the many fathers not getting to see their families this year. I hope they had a special day all the same

13.01.2022 ‘I believe the world is incomprehensibly beautiful, an endless prospect of magic and wonder’ - Ansel Adams When we slow down we get to see the beauty that’s all around us. Never underestimate the powder of ‘stopping to smell the roses’. Slowing down and focusing on the now is something we all need incorporate into our lives. And how stunning is this flower from my boyfriend’s Mum’s garden?!? Almost doesn’t look real.

12.01.2022 Update of Telehealth consult hours Due to some logistical rearranging for the current stage 4 restrictions. I have had to move my Thursday consult times to 9am - 1pm and Saturday will now be 2pm - 5pm. All patients whose appointments are effected have been notified. Looking forward to continuing to support my wonderful patients during this time!... If you are also interested please via my website or The Natural Health and Wellness Clinic

11.01.2022 Some see a weed, I see herbal magic Both dandelion root and leaves are core in Naturopathic medicine. A liver and digestive lover dandelion is packed full of nutrients and antioxidants. One of my top herbs for acne suffers. You can eat dandelion leafs straight from the ground (be sure you know there as been no chemical spraying). But if you find the leaves too bitter... roasted dandelion root you buy from the store can make a delicious warm drink (it’s usually mixed with c...hicory root). You will find a lot of herbal medicines are actually considered ‘weeds’... so don’t judge a book by its cover.

09.01.2022 It sounds so simple but it’s actually hard not too. When you touch your hands to your face, you’re transferring bacteria onto open wounds on your skin (your acne spots). Which in turn makes the acne worse, as bacteria is a large reason for a lot of acne aggravation. Acne on your chin can be a sign of a hormonal unbalance . But it can also be irritated by resting your hand on your chin. This also goes for picking at your acne... I know it’s tempting, but it will only be m...aking it worse. That being said, your fingers usually aren’t the cause of acne. There are many individual underlying factors that contribute to the development of acne. But additional bacterial transfer from your hands won’t help with your skins recovery. Take notice of when your mindlessly pick at your face, or it’s 3pm and your head is in your hands at your desk. Sometimes being aware is all you need to reduce a habit.

09.01.2022 Our Naturopath Bridgit’s favourite herb for National Herbal Medicine Week! . . LEMON BALM (Melissa Officinalis) Melissa is Greek for ‘bee’ and used to be plante...d around bee hives to attract bees. Which I think is a beautiful visual! Lemon balm is a beautiful carminative herb, making it helpful for spasms of the digestive tract (think IBS type symptoms). Of particular use if these digestive problems are related to the persons anxiety or stress. As lemon balm is useful for relieving tension and stress reactions. According to an old Arabian proverb ‘balm makes the heart merry and joyful’ Traditionally is was popular to be mixed with wine and was said to be ‘good against the biting of venomous beasts, comforts the heart, and driveth away all melancholy and sadness’, sounds like perfect for broken heart. While doing a little traditional research I also stubbled across its association with the signs Sagittarius, Aquarius and Cancer. Which might be another reason why I’m so drawn to it as I am Sun Sag, moon Aquarius and ascendant Cancer With a beautiful lemony aroma and flavour, it is a perfect herb for herbal teas! I even just pick it straight from our community garden an put it in my tea. . . And that’s a wrap from all our our lovely Naturopaths for National Herbal Medicine Week. We all seemed to pick ones that help with stress If you are interested in learning more about Herbal Medicine and how best it might help you, make sure to book in with one of our lovely ladies

09.01.2022 I’m wanting to help people find their glow this year. Not just glowing skin, but feeling so nourished and supported on the inside that you can’t help but glow on the outside! I love helping those on their skin journey but I want you to feel just as happy and confident even with a couple of pimples! If this sounds like something you are looking for, feel free to message me for further details.... Let’s shine our light together

08.01.2022 It’s PCOS awareness month plus Women’s Health week so I thought what better time share my thoughts around the importance of getting to know your reproductive cycle! For those that aren’t aware I have PCOS (or polycyclic ovarian syndrome), which presents for me as an irregular cycle, multiple follicles in my ovaries, heavy bleeding, acne, extra challenges in loosing weight and excess hair growth. It is something that comes with lots of frustrations, but also has taught me so ...much. The only reason why I was first diagnosed was because I started listening to my body. During my Naturopathy studies we were learning about the reproductive cycle and how with ovulation there is changes to vaginal discharge and temperature. And as someone who had always had irregular cycles and then when on the pill. I had never experienced these changes. I had further investigations done, which resulted in my diagnosis. But that was just the start of my journey. I am in a lot better place with my cycle these days. But it still has so much to teach me. I’m a big believer in your cycle being a type of report card for your health over the last couple of month. The times I’m extra stressed, not moving my body or not fuelling it with what it needs... these will be the times my cycle is longer or I have more PMS symptoms. But now the months were I do experience that change in discharge or temperature, I do a little happy dance because I know things are happening as they should. At my most recent ultrasound I have seen a reduction in follicles (they are still polycystic but not quite as bad). But I they have found a polyp on my uterus, which I’m monitoring, which comes with its own fun lessons. For me I feel my reproductive journey will be an up and down one. But I know the knowledge I’m gaining about my own body, plus knowledge to support others on a similar path is priceless. For all of you beautiful women out there, listen to your cycles, it will show you what you need to know.

06.01.2022 If I could tell my younger self anything it would be... don’t waste your energy on comparing yourself to others. The things that are different or unique will make you who you are. And if you put that energy into loving and empowering yourself, great things can happen. My own self confidence is something I am always actively nourishing. Getting deep and facing hard truths can be confronting but they are the only way to move forward. ... Do you have a message for your younger self?

05.01.2022 Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference! Introducing my little friend the Konjac sponge. Made from the Konjac root, which is native to parts of Asia. When dry the sponge is hard but by adding some water to it, it becomes so soft and squishy.... As the capillaries in my face are close to the surface and my skin is slightly sensitive, I need just a gentle cleanser and it’s the top abrasive. And the Konjac sponge does an amazing job of removing excess oils and cleansing my skin with just water! My skin feels so smooth after using it and when I don’t, I can really notice the difference. I know that our skin microbiome is so delicate so anything where I don’t have to alter the ph too much (because water already does) or add extra chemicals to my face, I’m all for. Plus because it’s made from a plant source, it’s 100% biodegradable. I was introduced to the Konjac sponge with my work at Ecology and it will continue to be apart of my routine for a long time to come. .

03.01.2022 ‘This day is a special day, it is yours. Yesterday slipped away. It cannot be filled with more meaning. About tomorrow nothing is known. But this day, today, is yours. Make use of it.... Today you can make someone happy. Today you can help another. This day is a special day, it is yours.’ - Indian poem Saw this today and completely resonated with me. Just before I read it I was thinking about tomorrow and the things I had to do. I was already feeling bad about myself for not getting everything done tomorrow... Which is silly because today isn’t even over and tomorrow hasn’t come yet. So I’m that moment I wrote down the tasks I wanted to get out of my head, and I just released them. Instantly my jaw relaxed and my shoulders dropped. I was holding tomorrow’s tension before it was even here. Now it’s time for a few deep belly breaths and to bring my head back into my body. Focusing on the now. .

02.01.2022 My face now that I get to start seeing my beautiful patients in person again!! Plus all the other wonderful businesses getting to open to their customers again I’ve been so grateful to be able to still connect with my patients via Telehealth.... but I know a lot of them prefer to see me in person For those who have appointments in the coming weeks, I will get in contact with you to see if you would like to switch your online appointments to in person. ... All appointments will be conducted under covid safe regulations, with masks and social distancing. If you have preferred the online consult process, don’t worry, I will always have the option of online! Especially for those not local to Somerville or who still wish to stay at home in their pjs. Iridology consults will still be on hold until I can figure out a covid safe way to conduct them. If you are wanting a return consults or thinking about seeing me for the first time...all bookings can be made via www.thenaturalclinic.com.au Happy Monday xx .

02.01.2022 Sunday vibes Missed you beautiful blue ocean water. My soul isn’t the same without you. How was your weekend?? How did you fill up your cup??

01.01.2022 That stress plays a significant role in the development and mainenance of chronic skin conditions has been known for many years. Research now shows that stress ...and skin health interact through a complex bidirectional pathway termed the HPA-immune-skin axis. Stress activates the Hypothalamus Pituitary Adrenal (HPA) axis, which triggers the production of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones alter the function of the immune system and the production of inflammatory mediators, which have a significant impact on skin health and function. Conversely, environmental stress picked up by the skin can directly trigger the production of stress hormones and thereby trigger the HPA axis. This highlights the importance of treating the nervous system in chronic skin conditions. Peters EM. 01.01.2022 The smell of rain (petrichor) is said to reduce stress and improve mood by 60% ! Think about putting away the social media for a bit and soaking up that nourishing post rain smell.

01.01.2022 Combination of my current hormonal situation, mask wearing and iso life and resulted in a few more friends on my face... They aren’t something I’m embarrassed about because I know it’s my bodies way of telling me that I need too look what is going on for me right now. Over the last year on my socials I chosen not to use filters. I want to normalise imperfections. I still have my own insecurities and it would be a lot easier to mask myself with a filter. But it’s not what I w...ant to be putting out to the world. As a Naturopath I help people with there skin issues, but I also want to show them at they aren’t just what their skin looks like. The skin is a reflection of our insides both physically and emotionally. We are all human and we will get pimples. Rather than wanting to hide them, what are they telling you? Do you need to slow down, are you not nourishing your body as well as normal, are your hormones in balance, do you have some emotions you are bottling up inside, what is your gut microbes doing? Take the time to listen.
