25.01.2022 In the Amazing Adventurers room at our Cranebrook service we have been preparing the children for their transition to Kindergarten next year. This month Educators have been focusing on fostering the children’s numeracy and literacy development through our planned preschool program. We have been learning what letters of the alphabet are called and the sounds that they make, what order numbers occur, counting experiences and practising our drawing and writing skills.

24.01.2022 At our Belconnen service our Explorers and Discoverers have celebrated Global hand washing day by participating in a wide variety of exciting handwashing experiences! Learning about healthy lifestyles, including personal hygiene, is integral to the children’s wellbeing since physical wellbeing contributes to children’s ability to concentrate, cooperate and learn. Educators used play to investigate and explore these ideas with strategies such as demonstrating, open questioning, explaining, engaging in shared thinking and problem solving to extend children’s thinking and learning. The children were all curious and enthusiastic participants throughout these fun experiences showing independence and an increased understanding of their health and wellbeing.

24.01.2022 This week as an extension of book week our Belconnen centre Little Learners and Curious Creators have been busy engaging in a literacy filled environment! The children were able to access a variety of books some of which included home languages such as Spanish. The children visibly shared enjoyment of the books through language and texts in a range of ways either individually turning the pages at their own pace or participating in a group story time with our educators. Our educators consistently support children’s positive interactions by creating these predictable literacy enriched environments to promote children’s engagement in learning.

19.01.2022 The South Nowra Dazzling Discoverers were lucky enough to have one of our families bring us in an incubator and some fertilized chicken eggs recently. Over the 21 days we learnt many things as we focused on chickens and their lifecycle. Each day we would check the water level, the temperature and the humidity of the incubator and watched as the incubator turned the eggs to stop the chick from sticking to the shell. At day 18 the incubator stopped turning the eggs and our exci...tement increased as we knew that it would not be long before we would be able to see our chicks starting to hatch. Over the next 3 days we would check the eggs to see if there were any cracks starting to appear until day 20 we started to see small cracks in 2 of the eggs! We knew the time was close and we were all watching in anticipation of our eggs hatching. On day 21 we arrived to find the 2 eggs had hatched. We were all in awe of these 2 little chicks that had hatched sometime during the night. During the day we were lucky enough to watch another 4 chicks hatch! The whole process of watching an egg hatch took quite a few hours but was an amazing experience that we were incredibly grateful to have been able to experience. See more

17.01.2022 Yesterday was an exciting day at our Belconnen service as we celebrated for Melbourne cup! Our Curious Creators enjoyed decorating their paper plates as a first step to making fascinators and hats. These will then become future recycled accessories for our dress up area. The educators provided a range of resources and materials to the children enabling the children to use their fine motor skills when selecting from the variety of materials. This also provided the opportunity for the children to engage independently making their own decisions

15.01.2022 For World Space Week The explorers at the Belconnen service have been engaging in extending their knowledge and curiosity about planets. Miss Hannah and the children utilised technology to research our solar system with the use of YouTube and google. The children’s interested in planets was increased through this child focused video clip. You can find this clip at home by visiting : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf40ruY8UOs the clip also supported the children’s literacy... development by providing written text throughout the video. Extending their interest further Miss Hannah and the children discussed the moon, its changing shape throughout the month and how we see the moon at night. This led to the children creating their own planets and moon utilising differing mediums of dough, paint, paper, foil, rollers, pebbles, buttons and corks .to extend the science concept further the children assisted in in making the dough and measuring the ingredients with the use of measuring spoons, cups and coloured dye. 15.01.2022 The Creators in our Belconnen service have been exploring their sensory development and curiosity while engaging in parallel play with the use of dough. The children used wooden spoons and their fingers as they explored the dough. The children added some animals to the dough during their play. They pressed the animals down and then lifted them up again looking at the prints made in the dough. This experience encouraged the children to explore items that are hidden from their direct sight while also developing the finer motor skills of individual fingers and manipulating a spoon. The development of the finer motor skills also assists for later development of self-help, school readiness while also supporting the children with social interaction.

14.01.2022 The South Nowra Dazzling Discoverers were excited to have Harry’s Mum, the owner of Harry's Garden, Annette, come in to help us plant some seeds that we are planning on putting in our garden to extend on our project on garden to table. All the children were given seed paper, a bucket of soil was placed on the table with some spoons to scoop and egg cartons to plant our seeds into. The egg cartons will be planted straight into the garden when the seeds sprout and are strong en...ough to survive in the outdoors. The Discoverers seemed to enjoy getting to plant the seeds, with some of the children choosing to plant their seeds and then tip them out and replant the seeds again and again! Other children were more interested in filling the egg cartons with as much soil as possible forgetting about the seeds and just wanting the soil in the egg cartons. After all our seeds were planted the Discoverers used a spray bottle of water to water the seeds and help them grow. The Discoverers educators encouraged and role modelled handwashing after using the soil. For tips and hints and to purchase gardening equipment for your child please check out Harry's Garden on Facebook or their website. https://www.harrysgarden.com.au/ See more

13.01.2022 The Curious Creators at Waterside have begun their exploration of Spring and what can be found in the garden! This is an extension of their ongoing Seasons Project and stemmed from the children's interest in helping their educators tend the outdoor garden. So far, the Creators have made stained glass windows using natural materials like flowers and leaves, have made flower crowns, had their face painted in the theme of Spring, collaged grass, soil, leaves, and flowers, planted their own sunflowers and have even investigated snails and frogs after finding them in their own gardens at home and our centre garden. The Creators have also been incorporating a reuse, recycle, and repurpose mindset in their every day program and have been learning about sustainability.

12.01.2022 Our Cranebrook Learners love play in our outdoor environment!

12.01.2022 We have a very busy group of Learners at our new Belconnen service! The children within the group are being supported as they develop their skills of crawling, sitting unassisted, pulling themselves up to stand and walking. Throughout the day the educators support the children in developing social interactions between each other as they explore their new setting. Lucy and Grace laughed together as they pushed the spinning top down watching the crab go around. The children are exposed to early literacy skills with the opportunity to explore books, musical instruments and singing with Miss Tina and Miss Shashi. We can not wait for more friends to join in the fun each day!

11.01.2022 Yesterday the children and educators at Cranebrook were lucky enough to have some special Grandparents come in to help us commemorate Remembrance Day. Riley and Charlie’s Grandparents, Derek and Yvonne, conducted a beautiful service for us at 11am. We read The Ode and then listened to The Last Post be played in front of us on the Bugle before all taking part in a minutes silence. Finishing off the service we then listened to The Reveille. It was so special to be able to acknowledge and share this day with our families and we are all so grateful for this wonderful families contribution! Thank you so much to Derek and Yvonne for joining us.

05.01.2022 On Friday our Nowra service celebrated in honor of the Diwali Festival. Diwali is the Indian festival of lights, usually lasting 5 days and celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar month of kartika. Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance. Some of our children helped in decorating our stage area. We participated in Rangoli and made some Divas (candles) from playdough. We even had turns of dressing up in a Saree. The children were very inquisitive about the festival and we were so lucky to have Miss Satveer share her knowledge with us all!
