12.01.2022 Good morning Little Willy Wag followers, I wanted to share a little more about myself, my little family and this new journey that we are on with you today. I ...am the 7th child of 8, so I come from a pretty big family. There are 2 boys, and 6 girls. When people would ask how many siblings I had growing up, I would tell them I had 2-3 siblings, as I thought it was a bit embarrassing having so many! Growing up, I had shared a bedroom with my Great Grandmother (Rita), as we lived in an overcrowded home. I learned many things from her, my most precious memories of my childhood would be the time we spent together. You could just imagine how great the bedtime stories were. She taught me traditional dance, song, and medicine, and I would travel with her to schools around the Macleay to assist her while she taught language and told stories. Then she would have me do traditional dance and sing in front of the students. She would always have $50 wrapped in her handkerchief ready to give to me at the end of the day. My childhood was great, I had so much freedom to ride motorbikes, drive go karts, swim in the creek behind my home, play with my cousins at school and at home after school, and we always had a dog no matter what! I was blessed with two very creative and innovative parents. We didnt have a lot of money growing up. I get my love of landscaping and gardening from my Dad, and my Mum is an all rounder really, she can do and make anything. If youve been to my home, you might have seen something and thought what is that? or where did you get that from?, its usually something I made, I am a lot like my parents. My parents separated when I was 12. By the age of 15 I was the typical, defiant teenager. I skipped school for 120 days in year 9, and nobody noticed. I had become a statistic and I had fallen through the gaps. Eventually I dropped out of school and enrolled in an IT course. I completed that, and decided I wanted to go back to school. So I moved to Lismore for a fresh start, enrolled at St Johns College Woodlawn, and I met my husband and we have been inseparable ever since. We share three rough houser boys together, and it has truly been a roller coaster of a ride with them, but I cannot remember life without them in it. They really are our whole world. I am qualified in Information technology and Education support, and I spent a few years at Wauchope Public School working in numerous roles as an Slso, delivering Norta Norta program (English and numeracy program for Indigenous kids), I have played the role of acting AEO, running homework centre and organising and running Rainbow Readers playgroups on Tuesdays. It wasnt until I became involved in the playgroups that I discovered my love for play based learning. I believe it has helped me be the understanding and playful Mum that I am to my boys today. Life is tough for many of us, and a lot of the time we stray from our own identities. I know I have over the years. We try to keep up with the trends of the world and we forget who we really are. It is really important to do all that YOU can now, to keep OUR culture, and our Dhanggati language alive because THIS is OUR identity, THIS is what WE own, THIS should be OUR focus, and most importantly THIS should be our FUTURE. Little Willy Wag has been open for a week now, and I have met so many Dunghutti people living off country, and it means the world when they express their gratitude for this creation. This audience, has been my main focus, and I am so excited that I am reaching many of you. I have had customers all over Aus so far, and a purchase made that will be sent off to the UK! I am absolutely stoked!!! Wow!!! I really encourage everyone to take advantage of these resources, reclaim and connect back to your roots. Get better at Dhanggati language for your kids, so you can teach them, and they can grow up having a strong sense of identity, culture, and belonging. Leave a legacy behind for them to carry on, because when we are gone, so is our language. Shalisha x

02.01.2022 In July 2019 DPM went to Palm Island to work with the Bwgcolman mob, the community are still struggling to heal from the impacts of Black Deaths in Custody. Ti...me Will Tell was written by the Bwgcolman mob and reflects on the history of Palm Island. The 2004 Palm Island death in custody incident relates to the death of Palm Island, Queensland resident, Cameron Doomadgee (also known as "Mulrunji") on Friday, 19 November 2004 in a police cell. The death of Mulrunji led to civic disturbances on the island and a legal, political and a quest for justice that continued for fourteen years. Respect goes out to uncle Lex and the clan The Bwlcgolman people and the Doomadgee fam The Tall Man got nothing on Munbara land Eeya lah the Palm Island People taking a stand Respect to the Bwgcolman Mob #BlackLivesMatter We stand in solidarity with you today! @finjitzu Anthony Stay-Nice Martino This project was funded by FNQ Primary Health Network.
