25.01.2022 BRIAN ELVISH RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION The gallery would like invite owners of original Brian Elvish paintings to contact us. We are trying to get a big collection of his work together, hence we need your help. The gallery would like to make this a memorable event, showcasing a good cross-section of his earlier and later works. Could you lend your paintings for the duration of two months to the gallery. We would need them by November 20-21. Please send us a message if you can assist, or ring Annemarie on 0413 247 237. Thank you very much

24.01.2022 It is with great sadness that the Bright Art Gallery wishes to inform you of the sudden loss of one of it's longest supporting artists Brian Elvish Brian was born in Myrtleford, worked as a sign writer in Melbourne and later on in Bright. He studied Art in Melbourne under Shirley Bourne, protégé of Sir William Dargie. Brian has been awarded Best Local Landscape in 1976, 1978 and 1983 and won the Albury Art Prize twice. The gallery is privileged to have two of his painting...s in the permanent collection. Brian was proud of the fact that he had entered every Autumn Art Show but two since its inception in 1967, when he was 20 years old. Some examples of his work, which show his love for the mountains and this region: 'Mountains Fainter and Feathertop' 'A touch of spring under Mt.Bogong' 'Autumn Park' currently in the Autumn Art Exhibition plus 'Autumn at Bright' winner in 1983. We will miss you Brian See more

23.01.2022 How beautiful is this linocut 'Yellow Tails' by Vida Pearson? It was the best other medium in 2009. The stunning yellows of the blackwood wattle and the gorgeous expressions of the cockatoos, it makes me smile just looking at it Vida has been a professional artist/printmaker for over 30 years. She has a very distinctive style with her brightly coloured strongly designed works mostly hand coloured. She has been selected for the internationally judged Birds in Art exhibition in the US as well as being voted Wildlife Artist of the Year by the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia in both 2014 and 2015. Her work was featured in the 2017 Australia Geographic Art Calendar. The gallery is proud to have 3 of her fine linocuts in the permanent collection.

23.01.2022 To celebrate the FIRST day of SPRING a gouache by Zhao Hongbin 'Tulip Garden' it came into the permanent collection as a winner of the 'other medium' category in 1992. Zhao Hongbin was born in Shanghai in 1952. He studied Fine Art Research in Shanghai Jiao Tong University and worked as art editor and chief editor in magazines. He went to Australia in 1988 and became a professional artist. Zhao Hongbin was granted as an "International talented artist" to receive a special permit of permanent residence and joins the Australian citizenship in 1993. The Buckland Screens painted by Thomas Lawler were part of the Buckland Riots Exhibition at the gallery in 1988. Purchased by the gallery it is now part of the permanent collection. The 5 panels of the screens are styled around the 5 elements of the Chinese world: Metal, Earth, Fire, Wood and Water. The gold leaf on the screens symbolises the tears of the mountain, meaning gold. When closed they represent the conspiracy of silence about the riots maintained by both the Chinese and Europeans. Fascinating.....

02.01.2022 A lovely misty Sunday morning for a mini virtual gallery visit. I love this wise thought by one of the Five Good Roman Emperors Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121 17 March 180).
