25.01.2022 To all our fathers and father figures in our community - whether separated, together or no longer with us - we celebrate you today! your value, connection and impact

22.01.2022 Today is Are U OK? Day. We are thinking of everyone - we appreciate these are such difficult times. Check in with those around you, connect online or call a support line if you are not OK. And if you don’t feel like talking, connect with your social, support or family network in any way that brings you comfort.

20.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." ..."That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." A.A. Milne Sending thoughts to everyone having a Difficult Day today. May you have your own Piglet to sit beside you

19.01.2022 This is a lovely post and very sensible. A good read and can help with making some mental and practical plans during this uncertain time. We hope everyone is staying well.

18.01.2022 Brighter Pathways is EXCITED to announce the opening of ConnectME Support Services in 2020. ConnectME Supports will be focused on providing individual, peer and group support services; as well as evidence based social connection and capacity building programs. We are still getting everything ready for our opening in 2020, but we couldn't keep this quiet any longer... so stay with us and keep watching this space....

17.01.2022 Happy Term 1! Today and tomorrow most children return (or start) school. At Brighter Pathways we hope everyone has a successful start to the Term. Whether it be a familiar school, a new school or the first step of school, the start of the year can be an experience met with mixed feelings of anxiety, joy, excitement and even sadness. Not only for young people but also parents.... So remember, above all else, be kind to yourself but also be patient, curious and relaxed with yo...ur child. If you are confident they will feel more confident - as children will often turn to adults for guidance and permission. After school, share a fun activity and establish an afternoon routine, that works for everyone. Let everyone settle into all the ‘new’ changes. Before long, you’ll have your groove on (or some variation of it)... and if you don’t, that’s okay too! Step by step, we can build resilience and routines.

17.01.2022 You are autistic. I can’t be on the spectrum was my first thought. I am not Rain Man or even Temple Grandin. I have no visible quirks well, none that I know ...of, at least. I couldn’t care less about planes, trains or automobiles. I’ve never sat through a single Marvel superhero movie, and I’d rather have root canal than attend Comic-Con. But autism is a spectrum, not a stereotype. I should know this after raising a son on the spectrum for the last 12 years. I have always loved music and books, yet my tastes aren’t exactly esoteric, and I don’t collect obscure facts. As a kid, I read obsessively, but that was mostly to escape my home life. Autistic girls grow up to be autistic women. If we don’t call it autism, then we call it depression and anxiety or some other mental illness, which raises the question: Are anxiety and depression symptomatic of autism or simply a byproduct of years spent trying to hide who we are? If we can recognize autism in girls and provide them with support and a positive sense of self early on, perhaps such mental health concerns can be avoided. I hope things are different for this next generation of girls. I hope they don’t grow up feeling lost and alone, perpetually wondering what is wrong with them and why they don’t belong in this world. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_612562c0e4b092664345f856

14.01.2022 A gentle message from all of us at Brighter Pathways Therapy as NSW comes out of lockdown today... It’s okay to look after yourself and family as we step out of lockdown and restrictions ease - feeling anxious, unsure and wobbly is normal and to be expected. It’s okay to go slow and to set small steps or goals in returning things to the ‘new’ normal. ... It’s also 100% okay to say ‘No, thanks’ if you don’t feel comfortable resuming activities straight away. It’s okay to rest! Being in lockdown did not mean we’ve been resting all this time. For many it’s been the opposite. Acknowledge this and make space for some restorative rest periods. See the tips below for different ways we can rest during this period. What will you do this week to rest? Will it be physical, sensory or emotional rest you choose? Or all of them! We will be navigating all of the above here at Brighter Pathways. We are still only offering Telehealth at this time. We will reach out to our clients and families directly regarding future updates. Big smiles, Brighter Pathways Team

13.01.2022 Self-care for yourself and your family is always so important. Often as the school term gets underway, self-care and boundaries give way to obligations, busy routines, and sometimes just needing to get through the day! Here are some different types of self-care activities (Sourced from Mary Allen’s motivation blog). Self-care doesn’t need to take hours out of your schedule. It looks different for everyone and sometimes just doing something for 20 minutes is enough! ... Try out one or two of these self-care activities... see what is your favourite.

04.01.2022 Christmas time can be a hard time for us, and for some can be a very lonely period. Kindness is especially important this time of year, as we never know what someone is going through. This year in particular is tough, as Australia faces many challenges with our bush fires. We send THANKS and BLESSINGS to those working hard on the front lines and behind the scenes keeping our communities safe. We hope everyone can connect with their community - in some way and in the way the...y want to - whether it be through social platforms, neighbours, community services/lunches or being with friends and family. Remember there are also many numbers we can use to connect and reach out. Have a wonderful Christmas and the safest of breaks as we move towards 2020.

All individual program goals are developed by Dr Tracy Rhodes prior to group engagement and reviewed by her and your group facilitators across the duration of the group. We are also consulting with a range of relevant professionals across therapeutic, allied health and disability sectors to bring together the most innovative group (and individual) programs in 2020 and beyond. The aim is to bring together a range of activities and connecting situations to assist with developing skills across social communication, emotional, behavioural and self-management domains. Most of all we want to see Brighter Connections and Socially ME! attendees laugh, feel great about who they are, experience control and choice, and experience a sense of belonging. So STAY TUNED for what's coming in 2020 at Brighter Pathways Therapy Clinic!
