25.01.2022 You know you love your dog beyond reason when you let them have your side of the bed

25.01.2022 What’s it like to raise three puppy siblings?? Ask Stephani’s family! Lots of work on crate training, name games, toilet training, food guarding, polite entry through doorways and more. #brighteyedcanines #puppies #puppyspam #dogtraining

23.01.2022 Great information and drawings from Lili Chin. Please also first ask the dog’s guardian if they think their dog would like to interact politely. #lilichin #dogbiteprevention #happydogs

22.01.2022 Dog parks are generally best avoided, especially for dogs under 6 months of age. When I have been to a park with others there, there has always been some tension and unhappy dogs. If you want to let your dog play with others, organise a play date with one other dog (they play best in pairs). If you want to give your dog freedom to run off lead, go to the park when it’s dark and no one else is around. #brighteyedcanines #dogpark #dogsocialisation #offleadadventures

22.01.2022 Friday Feeding! What NOT to feed your dog.

21.01.2022 Emotion & behavior go hand in hand. Sometimes clients are surprised that I don't just teach them a cue or use a tool to stop their dog doing something. Quick fixes are a weak dam wall that can only hold for so long. When the dam wall eventually breaks it can release a flood far worse than before. Humanely addressing and changing a dog's emotions can be critical to changing their behavior long term.... #brighteyedcanines #emotionalhealth #dogtraining #behaviorchange

20.01.2022 Tuesday Training Tip! For all the guardians of cute little dogs, or even big dogs! This is an easy passive training tip that helps empower your dog and improve communication. #brighteyedcanines #TuesdayTips #dogtraining #empowerment

20.01.2022 Meet Blanche the miniature bull terrier Blanche is currently struggling with other dogs, shadows and light reflections. Luckily she has a family and home set up for success. She isn’t going to let anything, not even deafness, hold her back! #brighteyedcanines #deafdogsrock #dogtraining

19.01.2022 Stop and smell the butts

18.01.2022 Day 8 of quarantine for all 5 of my active dogs. I thought it would be hell when two of my dogs got kennel cough and we decided to keep everyone on the property until it cleared. I’m pleased to say that it has been a huge success and they all seem content (aside from waking me up with howls and licks this morning). What have we done to cater to their needs?... - Food puzzles - Training activities - Active time with the flirt pole for those not sick - Snuggles. Lots and lots of snuggles. It worked. They are only now getting a little antsy, and I should be able to take some out for a bush walk tomorrow. Quality time with your dog doesn’t have to always be active time. #brighteyedcanines #kennelcough #canineenrichment

16.01.2022 Time for some fun . I’m currently retraining my dogs to go to their beds on cue. My previous cue was ‘on your mat’. I’m going to change this. Suggestions so far are ‘battle stations’, ‘charging stations’, ‘to the batcave’, ‘time machine’ and ‘happy place’. Which should I go with? Or is there another greater option?

16.01.2022 It’s great to be proactive with muzzle training, informative clothing and co-operative care. Even the most lovely dog may feel the need to nip or bite when they are in pain and/or distressed. Let’s keep everyone safe and as comfortable as possible. Here is Kelly at the vets last week for an ear infection. He was able to get the care he needed because he was comfortable wearing a muzzle. #brighteyedcanines #dogbiteprevention #muzzletraining #vets #safetyfirst #nervousdog

15.01.2022 I was very lucky to be working with some fine felines this week #brighteyedcanines #positivetraining #cattraining

14.01.2022 What a good weekend for outdoor snoozing

12.01.2022 Monday Myth Busting! Myth: "The bite came out of nowhere" Truth: It is an extremely small percentage of dogs who bite without giving warning signs. Unless a dog been punished for giving warning signs, or there is a serious neurological problem, dogs will try and tell humans when they are uncomfortable with a situation and need space.... Below are 10 ways your dog may say "I need space". #brighteyedcanines #MythBustingMonday #dogbiteprevention

10.01.2022 How? Not what, but how are your dogs getting breakfast today? Toilet rolls stuffed with kibble are on today’s menu for my dogs. #brighteyedcanines #canineenrichment #bestdoglife

09.01.2022 Happy dogs don’t bite. Are you always happy? No. Would you be happy if you were attacked by a bear? No. Can we work towards making the vast majority of your life happy and safe? Yes!

08.01.2022 Wednesday Walks! Check out Ragner showing off the new training vest Ragner is struggling with reactivity towards other dogs and cats. On this walk he encountered both, disengaged and walked on!... #brighteyedcanines #dogreactivity #circlemethod #behavioradjustmenttraining

07.01.2022 Do your dogs like scratching and burrowing into bedding? Do they like having multiple resting options around your home? Do you have little money after lots of vet visits?? Try asking your local community if anyone has old bedding they no longer use and would be willing to gift. I posted in my local By Nothing Group and was astonished at how many people were more than happy to pass on old, unused bedding.... I now have five very happy and comfortable dogs who can dig through bedding to their hearts content #brighteyedcanines #buynothing #secondhand #multidoghousehold #comfort

07.01.2022 ...We can spay, neuter, shelter, foster and adopt, but until we educate, it won’t stop. Watch to the end.

05.01.2022 Tuesday Training Tip! How to transfer cues? Present the new and then the old. After some time the dog will anticipate the behavior when they hear the new cue. When that happens you can fade out the old cue or use it separately.... #brighteyedcanines #dogtraining #tuesdaytip

04.01.2022 Thursday Thoughts... There are two ends to a lead. We think a lot about what we want to happen on the dog end, but what can we do on the human end? #brighteyedcanines #dogtraining #dogwalking #ThursdayThoughts

04.01.2022 Monday Myth Busting!

02.01.2022 It is very sad and distressing when your dog experiences anxiety if left alone or separated from a special someone. In some cases it may become a mental illness where they panic and cannot control their reactions. It is not necessarily anyone's fault, but they need us to help them with it and not make it worse. It is near impossible for a dog to get over this by themselves. The first step is figuring out if we have a case of separation anxiety or isolation distress. From ther...e we can put a plan in place to improve everyone's life. #brighteyedcanines #separationanxiety #isolationdistress #dogtraining

02.01.2022 More tips for keeping children and dogs safe. If you are at all unsure of a situation or are unable to supervise, seperate. #brighteyedcanines #dogbiteprevention #familydog

01.01.2022 Sunday Funday! What fun things are you doing with your dog today that help cater to their needs? I have some socialisation and sniffing walks planned for my pups. My socialisation walks will be with some unknown dogs so we will start parallel walking on opposite sides of the street and let the dogs get closer as they show calm and comfortable behaviors. Sniffing of the environment will be allowed at any point in time (as long as it is safe).... #brighteyedcanines #canineenrichment #sundayfunday
