24.01.2022 Grade 6 is launching their start to the new term busily preparing for their upcoming Exhibition. This year Exhibition has the transdisciplinary theme How We Express Ourselves and students are inquiring into the central idea: Reflecting on and sharing life experiences can show values and inspire action. A provocation to build understanding of this central idea, students met with inspirational speaker Abdi Aden, who shared his story of survival as a 13-year-old boy fleeing th...e civil war in Mogadishu, Somalia. Students were captivated listening to his journey and the many hardships he endured. Separated from his parents and penniless, Abdi walked to Kenya and spent time in a refugee camp in Romania. Relying on the kindness of strangers Abdi made his way to Australia. Landing in Melbourne at the age of 16. He has created a successful, happy life and taken the opportunity to help others by completing his education and becoming a youth worker and inspirational speaker. Abdis story demonstrates how ones actions can reflect values and how sharing of life experiences can inspire others to take action.

24.01.2022 Buongiorno! Today we come together as a school to celebrate our learning of the Italian language and culture. We are celebrating La festa della repubblica, Italian national day which is celebrated in Italy on the 2nd of June. Todays festivities continue with Grade 6 presenting their Italian play, La Famiglia di Contadino Giovanni, and a show by visiting performers, La comica Variety performing La Festa. Our school grounds look so vibrant with many students wearing the colours of the Italian flag, green, white and red (verde, bianco e rosso).

It has been a very challenging year for our Preps and we are very proud of their resilience and the progress that they are making. Nicole explains, The inspiration for the exhibition, Neighbouring Practice at Dirty Dozen, came from the natural beauty in the world around us. I find the awe-inspiring views from the tops of mountains and the depths of the ocean intriguing. I aim for viewers to feel the wonder that I fee...l when I get to experience these mountain views first hand. We felt very proud and inspired standing there looking at the pieces composed by one of our very own Brighton Primary School teachers. Nicoles exhibition will be on display until this Saturday 27 July in the Flinders Street Station Subway.

16.01.2022 While our lovely students may not be at school currently, we are all still connected as part of our BPS community. Our students are being encouraged to make a "Spoonville" character to add to a collection at the front of the school on Wilson St. We hope this gives everyone a smile!

15.01.2022 Last term our school was very fortunate to receive a donation of 50 indigenous plants from the Bayside Climate Change Action Group (BCCAG) and Bayside Council. 15.01.2022 ANZAC Day will be very different for us all this year. Traditionally, our school captains would run a special assembly to acknowledge the traditions of ANZAC Day and to pay tribute to those who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. This year we will not be able to come together in remembrance. However, in recognition of this important day, Brighton Primarys school captains, Aden and Emily, have created a short video explaining the importance of ANZAC Day, including the Ode to the Fallen and the Last Post.

12.01.2022 In our latest newsletter (available under the Parents tab on our website), we shared how proud the Grade 1 teachers are of all the hard work their students have done during home learning and all the new skills they have learned. They showed creativity in being interactive learners and critical thinkers and resilience in adapting to 'the new norm'. Despite being in lockdown, Grade 1 took time to reflect on the things that have made them happy this term, including walking on ...the beach, playing with siblings and pets, learning to ride their bikes, spotting nature in our suburbs, dancing, cooking, watching sport, learning new skills and just spending time with family. We are so proud of how well ALL our students have managed during this difficult time and would like to thank both staff and parents who have done such an amazing job this term. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday. See more

11.01.2022 As we find ourselves returning to remote learning, we would like to extend a thank you to everyone - staff, parents and carers, and students - for their hard work and support. The feedback from our last remote learning experience has been largely positive. "The communication and support offered by the school and teachers is commendable." "It is very comprehensive and I feel confident that the kids aren't missing out on any learning experiences."... While remote learning can be challenging, many parents mentioned the benefits of their children's new found independence, and of the opportunity to better understand how their children are learning at school. We thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us. We have used this information to inform many of our plans moving forward.

08.01.2022 Are you interested in enrolling your child at Brighton Primary School? Our 2021 Prep classes are already over 80% full, with limited spaces left across other grade levels. Despite social distancing practices temporarily preventing our school tours and open days, our student enrolment has been especially high this year. One parent with a grade 3 student at Brighton Primary School provided the following feedback in response to our remote learning program during term 2, 2020:... I think the school communications has been fantastic throughout remote learning. The communication has been very clear and helpful yet not too much information for everyone. I also think the teachers and their team members have done the most amazing job with remote learning. I have been super impressed by all the grade level teachers, the learning, professionalism and organisation. I also feel very privileged to have experienced this time with my son, to understand how he learns and how the school works. I now have a much greater appreciation for the teachers, teaching & learning and how my son learns. Something very precious to come out of these unprecedented times. We are very proud of our school community. Our students are active learners who learn to ask questions, research topics and express themselves. They learn to assess their own achievements and think about how to progress. They learn to take risks, learn from failure, and try again in a supportive and accepting learning community. It is our aim to help your child settle into our school community and build those skills, attitudes and values they will need to fully participate in the rich educational life of our school and beyond. For further information on our school and to download a copy of our enrolment form, please visit our website https://www.brighton.vic.edu.au/enrolment/ or email our Admissions Coordinator at [email protected]. We look forward to welcoming you to our school.
