25.01.2022 How on Earth did we get any work done today with these cuties at the practice?
22.01.2022 This kiddo has all the answers! Good dog! Puppy preschool graduate! Sit, stay, drop, come, heel! His people now know all of this and everything about preventatives, first aid advice, diet and environmental enrichment. We tell you what to do if they cry at night, dig in your garden or chew on your shoes! This is just the beginning of a lifelong adventure, but start it with us! Well walk you through the puppy and the teenage years. Well lead you to a good obedience school for further education for your faithful friend. By gosh, Its loads of fun! Next class start 19/3/20.
22.01.2022 Dr Vanessa found this page for us. As the wind picks up and the birds are breeding, this handy guide shows you how you can help baby birds (not only magpies) that get into strife. Sometimes taking them away from where you found them is not the best solution. We will always help injured wildlife or wildlife in need but we can not replace the skills a parent bird will pass on to its young. We can not teach them to recognise predators or the food they should eat... or not eat. Only parent birds can do that. So if you see a baby bird, follow this helpful chart. We always keep a supply of "bucket nests" at the clinic if you need one.
22.01.2022 HOORAY! PUPPY PRESCHOOLIS BACK! It starts again at 6.30pm on Thursday night, here at the practice. There are still a couple of spots left. If you have a puppy between the age of 8 and 14 week give Nurse Raechelle a call on 3269 2223 and she will give you all the details.
22.01.2022 Heres looking at you kid! This is Penny. Poor Penny sustained a severe corneal ulcer (a scratch on the surface of her eye) and infection inside her eye that did not respond to our very best treatment. Her eye was very painful and Dr Vanessa and Pennys loving owner elected that removing the eye was the best resolution to Pennys pain. Here we see Penny once more "keeping an eye on" and supervising the goings on at her house. She is happy and pain free and does NOT miss that pesky eye at all.
21.01.2022 As we evolve to meet the needs of our patients and clients, we wish to outline our strategies for handling the protection measures we have in place. We are still open for routine appointments when owners are well to bring their faithful friend to us. 1. Please, if you are unwell and your pet needs care call us! We will come up with a plan to help your pet.... 2. Please, (wherever possible) have only one, well family member bring your pet into our practice. We understand this is sometimes not possible. 3. If your pet is unwell and you are too, tell us when you book your appointment and we will come to you in the car park. A nurse will bring your pet to our vet and we will have a phone consultation. 4. For our elderly or disabled clients we will endeavour to pick your pet up from your house and bring him or her back after a phone consultation. This will be dependent on staff and time availability but we will do our very best. 5. If you need to pick up medication we can bring that to the car park too. 6. We promise (as always) to undertake every disinfection and personal protection protocol that has always been our method of operation. Brighton Vets will endeavour to be always available during this trying time and will adjust our methods to make sure YOUR PET REMAINS OUR TOP PRIORITY.
19.01.2022 FOUND AND HOME. GOOD WORK TEAM!! Do you know this lovely? Lets get this pet home. Found straying in Brighton this morning.
18.01.2022 UPDATE FOR OUR CLIENTS As you may have heard, the government has started easing restrictions placed on businesses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While this is a good sign we are starting to return back to normal, the team at Brighton Vets will follow government and Australian Veterinary Association advice on how we return back to normal operation. As of Monday 18th May, we will be allowing one (1) healthy person to accompany their pet into the practice for their consult with... the vet. We ask all clients and visitors to still wait in their cars or the shaded area in the car park and give us a call to let us know you have arrived. We will then call you when the vet is ready to see your pet. If you are unwell, we ask you reschedule your appointment or have a healthy family member or friend bring your pet to their appointment. In the case of those self-isolating or needing further assistance to get their pet in for an appointment, please call us on 3269 2223 to chat about your options. We thank you in advance for your understanding and look forward to being able to resume face-to-face contact again.
17.01.2022 Be still my beating heart! WAIT!!! NO DON’T!!! Listen to beautiful Topaz’s heartbeat. Topaz is a Diamond Python who sustained an injury to her tail and is undergoing a partial tail amputation under general anaesthesia. General anaesthesia for reptiles is quite different to dogs and cats so we use a doppler to monitor their heart rate. The heart sounds you are hearing are audible in real time by placing our Doppler probe over her heart and connecting this to a speaker. The... depth of anaesthesia required for surgery on reptiles is such that our skilled nurses breathe for her during her procedure via an endo-tracheal tube in her airway. A rebreathing bag connected to the anaesthetic circuit allows our nurse to maintain her oxygen levels. She is kept warm with infra-red heat light and a heat mat. Topaz recovered well from her procedure pain free but a few centimetres shorter. See more
17.01.2022 Meet Wolfy! Hes a Black Headed Caique. Hes a young parrot and came in for check up yesterday. He also thinks hes a hat!

16.01.2022 OK Brighton Vet friends, WE ARE STARTING A CRUSADE! Lets talk MICROCHIPS! In that bad weather we had the other day we saw SEVEN scared, stray pets in an hour or so. Sadly almost NONE of their microchip details were up to date and none were completely correct. Please bring your buddy in to the practice so we can scan their microchip. If your pet goes missing and your details are not up to date, that chip wont help you get your mate back. Weve got a scanner at the desk and will be happy to provide you with a copy of your pets database details. Many of our clients have been surprised that the updates they so carefully made never occurred on the database where their chip is listed. Its an easy check and its free.
15.01.2022 If you do end up in lock down, thank dog for Gods!... Hang on... !
15.01.2022 Perhaps this COVID business has gone too far! Spiders are taking over our walkway!
14.01.2022 Meet Wolfy! He's a Black Headed Caique. He's a young parrot and came in for check up yesterday. He also thinks he's a hat!

11.01.2022 Did you know that a group of cats is called a clowder? All of these lovelies (and a couple more) were in for their road-worthies today. Neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped! It was a bit hard to get any work done when they were there to snuggle.
10.01.2022 CALLING ALL PUPPIES!!! Are you a good girl or boy puppy and between the ages of 8 and 14 weeks? Come to our puppy preschool for an hour of fun and learning once a week for four weeks! We start on Thursday 6th February. Mum and Dad will learn about your health and care needs. You will learn about being a good doggo and lots of manners! Its so much fun. 09.01.2022 Happy Friday! Weve outsourced todays reception duties to Indi (although she is easily distracted by tummy rubs and treats). Show us pictures of your pet(s) at work.
09.01.2022 Today we said goodbye to some old friends. We didnt want to, but our silky oak and a couple of other trees were impacting on the poor old building. We would recommend Macs Tree Service for their fast, efficient, service and for not noticing when the boss cried in the car park because we had to let them take the trees down.
08.01.2022 What is going on at Brighton Vets? We have unfortunately had to close the practice today to undergo some urgent repairs to the building. We will be back to normal operation tomorrow. Our phones are still working, so if your pet is sick or you are worried about them, please call us and we can advise you what you should do.... If you have an emergency, please go to either: Pet Emergency Stafford - 3359 5333 OR Pet Emergency Northlakes - 3384 2233 Well see you tomorrow.
08.01.2022 NOOOOO !!!! Today we bid farewell to our Dr Stephanie. She is moving on to an exciting new challenge in her career. As the Veterinarian in charge of wildlife for the state of QLD we are sure she will do wonderful work in the defense and best interest of all our native fauna. It is a blow to lose her but we wish Stephanie well in all her future endeavours.

If you are self isolating or are feeling unwell, we ask that you make an appointment for a later date or a time when you are no longer symptomatic. 04.01.2022 SATURDAY CUTENESS OVERLOAD! Look who came to see us ysterday. These little lovies were less than 1 day old when they came in with their mums for a post partum check up. The great news is everyone is healthy and strong and the mums are doing a wonderful job of caring for their bubs.
03.01.2022 The end of an era. For 10 years our Sharon has tirelessly cared for our patients, advocated for our wildlife and fought for every animal that has walked through our door. She moves on now to a new adventure caring for all the worlds creatures. Sharon says she will miss all her patients and their wonderful people. We wish her every happiness and hope she knows theres always a place here at Brighton for her.
03.01.2022 Oh dear! Hes got all the right moves but hes got the wrong girl! Full marks for effort though!

02.01.2022 Here is an important message to protect our seabirds. Please remember to cut the ear loops on your face masks so we dont see our local wildlife in this predicament.

01.01.2022 Meet Milly Mia. She is a West Highland White Terrier puppy. She popped into the surgery recently to find out all about puppy preschool. Milly is in our current class and recommends it to all puppies between the ages of 8 and 14 weeks. Its loads of fun while learning. Milly Mia will learn all her manners (sit, stay, drop, come, heel). Her wonderful parents will find out all about preventitive health care, first aid and nutrition for Milly. We also cover puppy problems like toilet training, mouthing and barking. If you have a puppy and would like to come to our next class just call the practice and ask for Raechelle. Our phone number is 3269 2223.
