23.01.2022 Des Lee, one of the founders and owners of the Brighton Savoy, has been on dialysis for a number of years. Like many of the obstacles and curveballs life has thrown at him over 87 years, Dad approached this invasive and onerous, yet life saving treatment, with admirable forbearance and resoluteness. Sadly, this has become more challenging in recent months. With increasing pain from the side effects of dialysis, age and loss of morale from the impact of Covid-19 on the busine...ss he and our mother Maya, built up over 53 years, he has decided - with our unwavering love and support - to cease treatment. We do not know how long Dad will have but kidney failure is imminent. Dad has touched so many people’s lives and so many of you have been a part of the rich tapestry and history of our family. We are devastated and heartbroken that due to the current crisis which is exacerbated by the stage 4 lockdown in Melbourne, Australia, he cannot share this time with extended family, friends and colleagues in the manner he would wish. In light of these unique conditions, we wanted to share where things are at and to provide an opportunity for those who want to reach out at this very difficult time. 22.01.2022 The owner of the Brighton Savoy and our husband and father passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday. After a courageous decision to cease dialysis, His final weeks were spent with family and friends reaching out from all around the world, sharing anecdotes and fond memories. He was totally at peace with his decision and left us knowing his time had come. Des Lee 23-08-33 - 13-08-20 Des was interviewed about his life in December 2012. Here is his story.
