Tryfor5 is an annual campaign powered by Nutrition Australia encouraging Australians to increase their vegetable consumption to the recommended five serves per day. 24.01.2022 While we can't travel the sights of the world right now, we can do so virtually. Last year, our physiotherapist Sabine, was riding through the Swiss Alps. This year she's keeping active on the bike at home with the use of virtual technology. Physiotherapist Bruce completed a virtual ride through France in August. The "Ven-Top" route is named for the massive climb it contains: Mont Ventoux! Mount Ventoux is known to be one of the most grueling climbs of Tour de France.... There are many virtual app's available to keep us active and motivated until the time comes when we can get out to see the world once more. #virtual #onlineexercise #technology #staymotivated

23.01.2022 The long awaited return of Exercise Physiologist, Erin Helmers, is here. Erin will be back in the clinic on Tuesdays and Fridays. Erin has experience with a range of chronic conditions and educates patients of the long term benefits exercise has on their condition. She will help you to set realistic goals, use motivational steps to help you become more consistent with your activity, and give you the skills needed to be able to self manage your condition, ultimately improving... your quality of life. Interests include: improving strength and mobility in the elderly, work cover, TAC patients, improving quality of life and mental health.

23.01.2022 Our superstar Michelle completed the 2XU Triathlon in Sandringham over the weekend. Unfortunately, the water quality was too low for the swim, but an extra run was added in it's place. Massive congratulations to Michelle for taking on the challenge of a triathlon, and the ensuing days after!

22.01.2022 A big Happy 60th Birthday to our resident full time car/tech/wine fanatic, part time physio: Charlie!! Last week, we celebrated Charlie's birthday in the clinic, with some amazing cannoli supplied by Charlie. While Charlie may not have been able to get to Europe, we tried to bring just a little bit of it here for him.

19.01.2022 Covid-19: Fact vs Fiction - "Covid-19 can be transmitted through food packaging". The best prevention is, and has been from the start, good hand hygiene, social distancing and getting tested if you present any symptoms. #myths #covidmyths #dietetics #dietician #tryfor5

18.01.2022 As we head into the warmer months, we're all excited to be no longer wearing our mask while walking around outside. BUT! Please remember that masks are still a requirement while indoors, by the Victorian Government and us here at BSSC.... #mask #indoors #outdoorfreedom

17.01.2022 As new mask guidelines start today, please remember that at BSSC, we are considered in the higher risk category. This is due to the difficulty to socially distance during your treatment sessions. We also have a high rate of at risk patients through our clinic. So please remember to bring your mask with you if you have an appointment, and make sure to wear it throughout your visit here.

17.01.2022 Returning on Tuesdays and Thursdays from November 24th. Our GLA:D classes are run by our Physiotherapist Sabine Groscurth. What is GLA:D Australia?... GLA:D, Good Life with osteoArthritis: Denmark, is an education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms. Research from the GLA:D program in Australia shows an average pain reduction of 36%, reduced analgesic consumption, reduction in perceived need for surgery, and clinically meaningful improvement in joint confidence. Education and exercises provided can be applied to everyday activities, ensuring participants develop skills to self-manage their osteoarthritis. By strengthening and improving confidence with exercise, participants develop better capacity to become or stay active, prevent symptom progression and reduce pain. 17.01.2022 Reminiscent of the ever-evolving nature of the Covid-19 pandemic, a wave of coronavirus cures and defences has hit our social media feeds. These so-called magical fixes aren't all they're cracked up to be. For National Nutrition Week, we'll be discussing some of these myths that have popped up around diet and Covid-19. 17.01.2022 MELBOURNE! You guys are the definite winners! We are so proud of the sacrifices that all Victorians have made this year. We could not love you guys (from 1.5m away of course) any more than we do right now! From Thursday 29th October, our Myotherapists will be back on board! Please keep in mind, that as they haven't been operating for 3months, there may be limited bookings available due to increased demand. From Monday November 8th, our rehab facility will be back open for uns...upervised sessions for our members. Again, please keep in mind that we are limited in how many people we can have in the facility at one time, so feel free to contact the clinic before coming in to check availability. No word at this stage on when group exercise classes can return, but hopefully that will be answered by the end of the week. We will let you know when we have confirmation. Keep up the AMAZING work Melbourne!

Some of our practitioners are taking a staggered approach to their return, so please call our reception team to find out what your preferred practitioners schedule is.... But we will be sure to let you all know when we hear the official date.

15.01.2022 Covid-19: Fact vs Fiction - "You should take vitamin and mineral supplements to boost your immune system". You should always try to get all your dietary needs from your diet first. 14.01.2022 Currently working from home? Don't feel you've got a great set up at the dining table? How's the neck and back feeling? We are seeing more and more people in the clinic with neck and back related issues due to working from home. As we all hoped we'd be back in the office soon enough, many people have put up with sitting at their laptop or computer with poor posture; developing bad habits, and then muscular pain to go along with it. In these 3 short videos, Physiotherapist B...ruce Gilmore, goes through 3 simple and quick changes you can make at home to avoid continued discomfort, and to avoid seeing us! (don't worry, we know you still love us) If you are struggling with pain from poor computer posture, please don't put up with it any longer. Give us a call so one of our practitioners can guide you more on how to make simple changes, and what you can do at home to help with self management and maintenance.

Physiotherapy and physical activity play an important role in helping people recover from severe illness. World Physio Day 2020 is focused on rehabilitation after COVID-19, but here in Australia we are recognising the importance of physiotherapy rehabilitation after all types of severe respiratory illness. During 2020, innovative applications... of physio practice have been at the forefront of administering high quality healthcare. This has ensured patients can rehabilitate safely and at their own pace for the best chance of full recovery. Here at BSSC, we thank our team of amazing physio's for continuing to offer care for our community during these very strange times. 01.01.2022 Practitioner Profile: Re-introducing Robert Postlethwaite - Clinical Psychologist Rob enjoys spending his spare time with family and friends, he has been married for 36 years and has a 29-year-old son who works as a Civil Engineer. Rob also loves marathons and Alpine Classic bike rides.... As a Psychologist, Rob completed his Master of Psychology degree in 1981. He started his working life in alcohol and drug addiction for eight years, including an inpatient/outpatient community treatment centre. In 1988 he moved into private practice to pursue Health Psychology, including chronic pain, chronic illness, and rehabilitation. Rob worked closely with Dr Daniel Lewis (Rheumatologist) in his Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation program at Epworth Camberwell for over twenty years and, in this context, worked closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Here, the major focus was physical injuries and the rehabilitation process to enable them to regain as much function as possible. A significant component of that was WorkCover and TAC patients, where the situation becomes complicated by the insurance system and the demands that accompany it. During that period, he also became involved in preparation for surgery and rehabilitation post-surgery. The attitudinal issues that accompany health problems play a very significant role in determining the future of a patient. Those who become victims or limit themselves, gradually go backwards. It has an impact on their own health and happiness, which in turn impacts significantly on family and friends. Rob's main focus in assisting people is to encourage resilience. Rob offers face-to-face appointments and online consultations, with flexible options for bookings. If you would like more information on Rob, please call the clinic, or click the link in our description to book online or see our website.
