25.01.2022 Have you made the time to visit our Brighton Jetty Sculptures presented by Patritti Wines yet? The exhibition ends this Sunday, unlike other years when their finish has coincided with the Channel 7 Brighton Jetty Classic which will be held on Sunday Feb 7th (have you got your entry in?) this year. Pop down and check them out before they disappear!

24.01.2022 #SAAOE20 // SLSSA Hall of Fame 2020 Neville Sparnon (Sport) Our final inductee to the Hall of Fame for 2020, in the Sport category is Neville Sparnon! Congrat...ulations Neville! Neville joined Surf Life Saving in 1972 as a member of the Grange SLSC and later moved to the Brighton SLSC. In his first State Championships he won an impressive 7 Gold medals in just about every swimming event on the program. He went on to become the dominant belt swimmer of his era. He represented South Australia 14 times captaining the team on 7 of those occasions. He won a significant number of State Championship medals and also won 4 Australian Medals in R&R teams. Congratulations Neville!

24.01.2022 There was a tonne of action on our beach tonight with nipper iron person training, youth board training and a come and try IRB night. Plenty of fun and plenty of smiles. Aise Dillon

23.01.2022 The calm before the storm. Another beautiful night in 5048.

22.01.2022 The wonderful thing about a community is that there is always someone (in fact many someones!) there to listen if you need to talk. Not just today, but any day.

21.01.2022 One of the most amazing things about Surf Life Saving as a sport is that it is ageless. Today we held a small competition for some of our nippers, youth and masters. We conducted rounds of long distance running, swimming and board paddling pitting the young against the..... more mature. This photo epitomises the amazing way that ages come together as a community in this sport. Well done to all those involved.

21.01.2022 Congratulations goes to these champions for recently completing the final stages and assessment of their bronze. Well done, now official bronze holders, Henry Miller, Bodie Ryan, Sebastian Oliver, Louisa Beaumont, Bridgette Maher and Deanna Torney(not pictured). Thank you as ever to their trainer and assessors for their hard work and time.

20.01.2022 Thank you for your service.

20.01.2022 The SLSA National Awards of Excellence will be held virtually in 2020 and the nominations are in. Brighton's own awesome members, SA official of the year Brett Watson and SA assessor of the year Ingrid Cobiac, have been nominated in their respective categories and we can't wait to cheer them on. The annual award night will be held on Saturday 7 November and live streamed on the Surf Life Saving Australia Facebook page.... Congratulations to all of this year's nominees and well done Brett and Ingrid, we are very proud of you.

20.01.2022 Sending out a massive good luck to all of our competitors gearing up for tomorrow's Surf Life Saving SA Kozii Enduro. We have a huge 38 individuals across all age groups, from under 12s all the way up to 60+, as well as 5 surf boat crews ready to take on the various challenges. The season is upon us! Go red caps! ... credit Troy Aberline

19.01.2022 Well this view is certainly different now days. What memories of Brighton do you have that are very different to the Brighton of today? For me it is probably the shelter shed that was near the beach road ramp and of course the old club rooms

19.01.2022 Enjoying this weather? If you are heading to the coast, make sure you swim at a patrolled location, between the red and yellow flags. Check out our lifesaving assests and safety tips below & tonight 7NEWS Adelaide 9 News Adelaide ABC Adelaide

18.01.2022 The gems you find when you are actually searching for something else This is a bronze medal winning Brighton nipper march past team from the very early 90s coached by one of our Club legends (he is in this photo). There are a few other current members that can be spotted in this pic too. Do you have any gems like this lying around at home? We would love to share them!

16.01.2022 We are only days away from our first patrol of the season, and a little more than a week away from our nippers, youth and seniors come and try on October 17th..... there is no where else we would rather be!

15.01.2022 This week we are looking at the outstanding achievements of our out going board members after our AGM on the weekend. Greg Stock has now moved on from the roll of Junior Chairperson after 2 years in the role. Greg has had a large involvement with our nipper program for over a decade, having first become a parent helper for his oldest son Mackenzie in 2009 then becoming an Age Group Manager when his younger son Fraser started nippers in 2012. Greg's leadership abilities were ...quickly noted and he took on the role of Junior Vice Chairperson before becoming Junior Chairperson in season 2018/2019. During these years he was instrumental in bringing back the family oriented aspect to our junior competition by organising trips to the Nipper Nationals in Manly and the Cosy Corner carnival in Torquay, immensely fun (and highly competitive) trips for all those involved. In the last few years as well as serving on the Board of management and fullfilling his Age Group Manager and Junior Chairperson duties Greg has coached and provided water cover at almost every single winter board training, summer board training and iron person training ensuring the success of our junior division. Greg now moves on to the shared role of Youth Development officer, a role in which we have no doubt he will continue to enrich our youth. Please join us in thanking Greg and welcoming Luke Verri to the role of Junior Chairperson.

15.01.2022 One of the many things we love about our club is that it is a place for family. Recently Club Captain, Kevin Whelan's, son Flynn obtained his SRC and donned the red and yellow for the first time, joining Dad and sister, Matilda in volunteering to keep our beach safe. What a proud moment for the Whelan family after years spent on the beach together, it will be great to continue to see this team in action!

15.01.2022 Come on you know you want to!

14.01.2022 Congratulations to Alistair "Badman" Baird, our newest life member, for services and involvement in the club over a long period. If you dont known him, he's announced every Brighton Jetty Classic bar one, however his band has played at a few so we ignore that year. And to Henley SLSC, sorry for stealing such a valuable member in 1984 but he did help us win national gold medals and cement us as Champion Club at two Aussie Championships in a row.

14.01.2022 And after you have read our previous post, you can see Kylie tonight on Channel 7!

14.01.2022 There was a little bit of magic happening out on the water last night at our weekly nipper and youth board training.

14.01.2022 Patrol Season 20/21 has begun and what a cracking day for it! Our volunteer lifesavers are all set up on Brighton Beach and ready to keep you safe. a wonderful member of the public on John Baker's phone.

14.01.2022 We are pleased to be able to get behind Stafford Wullf as he embarks on a virtual London Marathon this coming Sunday, with BSLSC as one of his home bases. Here is a note from Stafford about why he is embarking on this incredible journey: Hey all, So as many of you know, April this year I got told I had Terminal Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, with a diagnosis of a 50/50 chance of making it 12 months with treatment. Well the treatment, chemo, started as a palliative measure to t...ry and keep me on my game for as long as possible. October marks 6 months since diagnosis and treatment, so I thought I needed to celebrate by doing something I have always wanted to do but never done before, which luckily are few and far between. A message from my cousin sparked an idea, a few emails and phone calls later that idea became reality. Soooo, On October 4th 2020, myself and two amazing friends (Dave Scarman and Sam Driver) are running The ‘London Marathon’ we get finishers medals to prove it. No we can’t fly to London, the race for 2020 COVID safe is a virtual race. So we are running the 42km’s in Adelaide. We are aiming to run along the shore line between Glenelg and Marino Rocks and do a few laps. Why here, it is flat, I like flat when running, it has plenty of places to get coffee, food and rest along the way. You are more than welcome to join us on the day, but we would love it, if you would be amazing enough to donate some money to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. This type of Cancer is poorly funded and as a result most people who get this have a similar diagnosis to my own, and I want to try and help change that. The link is below, pick your favourite marvel. https://www.justgiving.com/team/TeamMarvels If you are around on Sunday come out to support Stafford on his epic run, and consider donating to this very worthy cause.

13.01.2022 Before this year comes to an end we would like to take a moment to thank another of our out going board members from season 2019/2020 Kylie Ellison first joined Surf Life Saving in 1997 and has since taken on many responsibilities not only at Brighton, but also on a state based level as well as National and world level. For our club she has been the Club Vice Captain of life saving services for the past 4 years where she facilitated patrol rosters, maintained first aid equi...pment and entered patrol logs. Kylie coordinated the First aid for the Brighton Jetty Classic for the past 4 years and has been the medical liaison for the Australian Open water championship. She has also been a trainer and assessor in several areas, and competed for many years with our IRB racing teams. Kylie is, and has been, a fantastic representative for Brighton (as well as the state) in so many areas that it is a huge task to list them all. Please join us in thanking Kylie for her massive contributions to our club.

13.01.2022 Last night our summer training schedule for our youth program kicked off and what an absolute stunner of a night it was, with a huge number of our teen members hitting the water. If this looks like something you want to be part of (and surely it does!!) You can come and try this Saturday 1.30-3.30pm. Thanks for the awesome Jacqui Mathers

12.01.2022 What a courageous effort by these young men Well done West Beach Surf-Lifesaving Club , you must be very proud of their work.

11.01.2022 This will be fun!

11.01.2022 #SAAOE20 // SLSSA Life Member Induction 2020 Stephen Collaton (Brighton SLSC) Taking a quick break from our Hall of Fame inductions for 2020, we’d like to ann...ounce the newest Surf Life Saving SA Life Member, Stephen Collaton! Congratulations Steve! Stephen joined the organization in 1959 and has been a significant contributor through his 61 years of service. He was an active member of the National Gear Improvement Committee and was a long term member and innovator on the Board of Examiners. He served as a district supervisor, an active official at surf carnivals as well as being heavily involved in the Championship winning Brighton R & R Team. He went on to sit on the National R & R Panel and was involved with editing and re-writing national Manuals. He is still actively involved officiating at carnivals during both winter and summer. Congratulations Steve!

11.01.2022 Our stunning Brighton, a holiday destination that we get to live in!

10.01.2022 Have you popped down to check it out yet? It is a stunning day for a stroll at Brighton!

09.01.2022 No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another. Thank you. - Joseph Addison Alexandra Cobiac has been the BSLSC secretary since 2014, a time of growth, strength and challenge for Brighton, yet Alex has kept things running smoothly and seamlessly behind the scenes, to list everything she has done for our club would take many posts! 2020 has obviously presented many difficulties for us as a club, but Alex has handled and delivered the c...onstant changes to our members with patience, poise and authority, working constantly to keep us informed of changes and challenges, and tirelessly to ensure protocol was in place so we could function and enjoy the benefits of our memberships during these difficult times. It is not usual practice for a board member to recieve the Club Captain's Award, but due to Alex's efforts she more than earned the title for the 19/20 season. Katrina Meehan has shadowed Alex over the past 12 months and will now move into the roll of club secretary. Please join us in thanking Alex for her extraordinary work, and welcome Kat to her new roll.

09.01.2022 Well done to all of our Brighton competitors who got out yesterday and gave the SLSSA Kozii Enduro a crack. All of you absolutely smashed it. Here is a little taste of the excitement of the day. Thanks for having us Surf Life Saving SA and Kozii Swimwear it was an incredibly fun and well run event and we already can't wait to do it again next year.

08.01.2022 Farewell to a true champion of Surf Life Saving, and an incredibly valued member of our community. Eddie, thank you. Rest In Peace.

08.01.2022 BSLSC is now closed until further notice. To our members and community, stay safe, and think about how good the sand will feel between your toes and ocean will feel on your skin the next time you step foot on our beautiful beach.

07.01.2022 The first nipper carnival of the season is off and running! Good luck to our under 8s (and their Age Group Managers!) who are experiencing their first carnival this morning. 07.01.2022 A superfish was spotted at Brighton this morning! Well done to the massive number of kids signed up for Vac Swim this year!

07.01.2022 A massive congratulations is in order for our newest group of qualified bronze members!! This has been the longest bronze course ever as unfortunately 5 days out from final assessment in March, it was cancelled due to pesky COVID. But, they came back, represented the club and showed off their skills and knowledge, and finally, yesterday, marked the official sign off of their Bronze Meddallion/Cert II !... A massive thank you to both John Cvetko and Ingrid Cobiac for training and putting the longest bronze course in history through! 05.01.2022 Pop Saturday October 17th in your diary folks. Season 20/21 is a go.

05.01.2022 Did you happen to catch the sea fog that rolled in at lunch time? #nottheapocalypsejust2020 thanks to Lisa Miller

05.01.2022 We currently have a large group of under 14s under taking their Surf Rescue Certificate training as well as a large group training for their Bronze Medallion that includes quite a number of youth. On October 17th we are having a come and try day for youth (as well as nippers and seniors) 1.30 -3.30pm at BSLSC. Surf isn't just about training and competing. As a youth you learn to become a volunteer surf life saver with skills in rescues, resuscitation and first aid. Just as importantly you learn team work and make life long friends. I suspect many of our members can name many of the people they completed their Bronze Medallion with, and count them amongst their close friends.

03.01.2022 With the current COVID restrictions in place, the Brighton SLSC is unfortunately only able to accept club MEMBERS upstairs into the restaurant and bar on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. If you are unsure whether you are a club member or have a question for the club please email [email protected] If you wish to join as a supporter member please email... [email protected] We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the club once the restrictions are lifted.

03.01.2022 Did you happen to catch this great news piece about our Brighton Jetty Sculptures on 7NEWS Adelaide this week? The event officially opens tomorrow with both the indoor and outdoor sculptures ready for display. Grab yourself a coffee or cool drink from the local traders and go for a stroll!

03.01.2022 Spring vibes are in the air and we can feel that new season inching closer and closer. Bring on season 20/21

02.01.2022 We know that 2020 hasn't been without (plenty) of difficulty. Bushfires, COVID, shut downs, cancellations, lockdowns and then shut downs, cancellations and lockdowns again. BUT, when we looked back through our photos of this year, we were reminded of how many amazing moments there have been. Volunteering, togetherness, victories, community, fun and friendship have still been a major part of our year, just differently and perhaps more importantly than ever. Thank you to all the members of our Brighton family for sharing the 2020 roller-coaster ride with us.

02.01.2022 Last Sunday, Brighton held the Annual General Meeting and we have seen a changing of the guard on some of our larger roles. Over the next week we would like to take the opportunity to thank some of these members for the outstanding effort they have put in for our club. We will begin with Chris Parsons who has been an incredible president for our surf club over the past 5 years. During his time we have held the Australian Open Water Swimming Competition 4 times as well as sta...te open water competitions, secured funding and building of our patrol tower and continued success with the BJC and sculptures events. Chris regularly clocks up over 150 patrol hours per season at our own club combined with helicopter and jet boat patrols, yet he has still managed to find time to fulfill his presidential duties. Please join us in thanking Chris Parsons for the invaluable time that he has put in for us over the past 5 years and join us in welcoming John Cvetko to the position of 20/21 BSLSC president.

02.01.2022 What a beautiful wake up call at Brighton this morning! That moon Kat Meehan

02.01.2022 A massive congratulations to Stafford Wullf who completed his epic 42.2km in style along our Holdfast coast line this morning. You can read Stafford's story on our previous post, and please think about giving to his very worthy cause. https://www.justgiving.com/team/TeamMarvels

01.01.2022 If you have ever been part of a surf club, this message will resonate deep in your bones. And if you haven't, maybe it's time. "Our Club is Your Club".

01.01.2022 Unfortunately due to the current COVID restrictions the BSLSC will not be open to the public. Once restrictions are relaxed we will look forward to welcoming the public back and will communicate availability via our social media sites. Thank you for understanding. We can't wait to see you all again soon!

01.01.2022 Less than a week to go until our First Nippers come and try. Youth and seniors are also welcome to come and try at the same time this coming Saturday. Get excited!

01.01.2022 Did you know that your child can come and try nippers twice for free on ANY Saturday during the season at Brighton? So if you haven't joined us yet, but have been thinking about it, come on down at 1.30 until 3.30pm on Saturday and make some new friends.
