20.01.2022 Bree was surrendered to Brightside almost two weeks ago. She is the gentlest and cuddliest baby you could ever find. She is being fostered by my very dear friend Louise who has had so many fosters of ours over the last few years. We are so lucky to have her and so is Bree!

20.01.2022 Sometimes it’s tough being a Brightside resident

20.01.2022 I have never met a dog like Boston. 100% on the job one minute, 100% dead to the world the next, 100% sweet human lover one minute 100% guard dog the next. For those who don’t know Boston he was surrendered to me after having 6 homes and being re sold by the breeder over and over again. He was just 18 months old. Everyone had given up and it was looking like euthanasia was all that was left for him. Then someone contacted me and asked if I would help. ... The day I collected him he was insane. He ran in circles barking and screaming and latched onto my gumboot. Boston was born deaf, he was so misunderstood and frustrated. So angry and aggressive. He bit people, attacked everyone and everything he chased cars and other animals, he fought dogs and behaved horrifically. He was a nightmare ... one of the worst dogs I have ever met. I love this crazy, passionate little dog so much. He is now 100% wonderful most of the time

19.01.2022 There are hundreds of thousands of reasons to be dairy-free. He is one of them.

19.01.2022 Might be time for a fridge trim Pip

18.01.2022 The tiniest little baby was surrendered today. He is 24 hours old and weighs an incredible 1.8kg. I have named him Christopher. He is doing well so far and loves his milk. He is so frail even his little voice is tiny. He really doesn’t want to be alone so I’ve allowed him to sleep on the bed tonight. He is very impressed

17.01.2022 Dumped cats. This morning a silver hilux dumped 4 big kittens over the Brightside gate. No call to ask if we could help. No call to ask if we had room. The woman dropped the crate and drove off. Brightside Farm Sanctuary takes 350 dogs a year. We also take hundreds of sheep, horses, chickens, alpacas, ponies, rabbits and just about everything else. We do not as a general rule take cats. ... Our vet bill per year is now close to $200,000. There are dedicated cat shelters who are there to help. Ten Lives Cat Centre Rescue Cats Safe Haven Inc and many others. Dumping animals is a chargeable offence under the animal welfare act.

17.01.2022 Dear sweet giant Dolly. I took this picture of her with her friend Buddy to show how absolutely huge she is. Buddy is 15.2 hands. The average size of a good sized horse. Dolly at just 3 years old and she is 18 hands. She has gained so much weight since she arrived and the nasty rain scald scabs and sores are now gone. She is so happy and content at Brightside

16.01.2022 Frosty showing his little brother Christopher how it’s done at dinner time! Christopher’s tummy is all better. He’s a tough little baby.

16.01.2022 Little Lucy was surrendered this morning. She is very, very sick with a raging temperature. I’m hoping the antibiotics and anti inflammatories can make her well. She can barely lift her head at this point so fingers crossed she will be able to fight off the infection.

16.01.2022 Meet Moo. She is looking for a loving home for life. We collected Moo yesterday because her living conditions were not good at all. 10.01.2022 This is Esther when we rescued her at 5 days old and now 10 years later. Esther is the only reason any animal lover should need to ditch dairy. At 5 days of age she was to be loaded onto the veal truck and sent to slaughter. Esther loves hugs and massages, she loves to lick people and chew on their hair. Esther is a big lover of humans. She loves them all. Little does she know that most of her human friends would eat her in the blink of an eye.

09.01.2022 Many people will know Rocky. He is one of my favourite residents. Rocky lives both free range at Brightside and in our huge aviary depending on where he feels like being. At the moment he is confined in my house because he has had a nasty infection in his eye and sinus and he needs a lot of medication. I’ve been doing twice a day betadine washes and twice a day oral antibiotics and oral anti inflammatories and antibiotic eye ointment as well as daily weight checks. Rocky h...as been the worlds most perfect patient. He lets me pick him up and lie him on his side and he takes his medicine so perfectly from the syringe. His treat is a ritz biscuit. (Only until he is well) I So grateful to our amazing vet Izzy from Tasmanian Animal Hospitals for her wonderful care and support xx See more

09.01.2022 I always wonder what goes on in Poodles brain. She is such a thinker. She’s different and unique and so special. Every morning she jumps on the bed and just watches me is it time to get up yet? she is saying in her head. The night I found her in a puppy factory I almost broke. There she was in a huge dark, cold shed in one of about 100 cages. Concrete floor and a water bowl, that was it. That was her life... and a male golden retriever so she would line the puppy farmers pockets with money from groodle puppies. She was to timid and scared but really wanted to be friends. Every time I see a groodle I think of Poodle in her cell. Cold and sad and exploited and used. Adopt don’t shop.

09.01.2022 Tiny little Christopher is bright and happy today although he has an upset tummy which is a worry. The clear liquid is an electrolyte he is on for 24 hours to hopefully settle his tummy. Christopher is wearing a beautiful recently donated knitted jumper to keep his tiny little body warm

09.01.2022 Kim and I collected a huge amount of food today for our 53 pig residents . There are about 8 wheelie bins of mostly fruit and veg but it’s also bread day so it’s the pigs favourite day of the week.

08.01.2022 Reenie is a 9 year old greyhound. She LOVES the couch and cuddles. Reenie would love a home where she can lounge around inside and be spoiled Small dog friendly.
