25.01.2022 Families and Friends - Over the next few weeks if you are homeschooling/remotely/digitally educating your children and you need assistance with understanding something that has been assigned for your child please get in touch. (Even if this is by choice as schools presently remain open). I’d be happy to answer questions/support where I can and also point you in the direction of a few free digital resources that may be helpful. We WILL get through this! whatever we can do ... (Teacher friends - copy, edit and paste! I have just borrowed this from a few teacher friends!)

21.01.2022 We are outside enjoying this beautiful sunshine today . Why not let the kids paint with water?! Whether you are painting on ground surfaces or vertical ones such as walls and fences, the benefits are endless. An awesome activity like this is great for fine and gross motor skills. Literacy and numeracy skills are covered too! Get them to write numbers and their name (can trace or copy your writing), draw pictures and trace shadows. The best bit is there’s hardly anything to clean up!!! Have fun!

21.01.2022 Watching this kid sleep last night, I couldn’t help but think about how things as we knew it were about to change. He is so ready for everything that school will offer him. One proud mummy here. #barwonheads #aguidetobarwonheads #bellarinekids #school #schoolreadiness @ Barwon Heads, Victoria

16.01.2022 Hi everybody, It is with deep regret that Bright Side Learning will not be running in 2021. It has been a lengthy and difficult decision to make but due a number of reasons I need to reduce 'my load' in some capacity. I am truly devastated that it has come to this as I was so looking forward to a more positive year, where I would engage with my gorgeous Bright Siders more regularly! I am optimistic that Bright Side Learning may resume sometime in the future as caring for an...d growing the minds of little people is such a passion of mine. I am sorry if this news has impacted on your 2021 schedule and let you down in any way. If there is anything I can ever do to support you and your children please let me know and stay tuned to our facebook/insta pages. Take care and I hope you and your family have a positive, healthy and happy 2021. Yours Sincerely Katrina xx

16.01.2022 They came from near and far - Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove, Drysdale, Leopold! Check out our newest Bright Siders! We jumped straight into lots of activities that promoted literacy and social skills and we got those finger and hand muscles working with plenty of fine motor games. The kids loved exploring the @barwonheadsgarden too and we found lots of things to count. Next week we’ll start our @littlelearnersloveliteracy program and welcome Milo Monkey to the group! There’s still time to join the fun. 15.01.2022 So here we go...Term 2 like never before. I’d love to hear how you’re feeling about it all in the comments section A few things to remember: 1. This is new for EVERYONE and with that there will be a level of stress and anxiety felt by all. Be mindful of others as we work this out together. 2. Do what your family can manage. Children learn best in a supportive environment. If things are too hectic and stressful, nobody will be giving it their best effort. 3. Don’t put press...ure on yourself to be your child’s teacher. Children are ‘learning remotely’. They still have a teacher that they can talk and ask questions to. Your role is to support them (if needed) as they work through their tasks. Think of it as if you’re helping them with homework. 4. Don’t expect a 9.00-3.30 day. Include plenty of breaks especially if you notice your child looking tired. 5. Finding a healthy and happy balance between learning and wellbeing might take some time but it is sooooo important. If YOU and your CHILD are happy and healthy, learning will follow. To all the children, parents and teachers; good luck and I hope you enjoy the new challenges that Term 2 brings. See more

12.01.2022 Apps! Came across these care of the Victorian Teachers Going Online 2020 and Mission Beach State School Facebook pages. (I couldn’t ‘share’ for some reason.) Looks like a great compilation. @ Barwon Heads, Victoria

11.01.2022 These guys definitely missed each other while the boys had a sleepover with the grandparents last night. Then...photo no. 3 and we know we’re alive. @ Barwon Heads, Victoria

10.01.2022 Tried this activity out today. Kids had a blast! Will definitely give it another go come Term 2. Equipment: Letters of the alphabet on post it notes/paper, nerf gun or alike. Young ones: aim for letters of the alphabet that you call out. Be sure to show them the sound the letter can make. If using the whole alphabet is overwhelming, just use the letters of their name. Older children: use their high frequency words or spelling words. Get them to read the word and then spell ...it out. (See video in comments). You could also use this activity with numbers. Younger children: aim for the number you call out. Older children: aim for the answer to an equation. See more

10.01.2022 Honestly? I’ve been teaching for 15 years. I went in with an open mind and was fully expecting things to get hectic and they did. 2 kids remotely learning, 2 3 year olds (need I say more) and working from home? I felt overwhelmed, stressed and frustrated. Why am I telling you this? Because hopefully, if any of you felt the same, I want you to know it’s ok! Day 1 is done and even though I questioned my profession choice (briefly) and wanted a glass of wine (for a bit longer th...an briefly) at about 9.30am I was able to step back, calm myself and I ended up finding the bright side! I accepted that today was full on! After all it was day 1 of BRAND NEW situation. We took it step by step and did what our family could manage. What was that bright side? Well things aren’t perfect and will never be as striving for perfection only leads me to feeling stressed and incompetent. But it was sooooo lovely working with my kids. I got to really DO things with them and help them and care for their wellbeing. With 4 kids, work and our busy lives it’s easy to just feel like the ‘organiser’. Today we really were ‘in this together’. Of course, the house looks like a bomb site as the girls pretty much had free reign but you can’t do it all! So...Day 2? Like I’ve been saying, your family’s wellbeing is the most important thing. Do what works for your family. Remember you’re juggling a lot. Support your children but don’t feel as though you’re their teacher. Only do what you can. My situation will be different from yours or maybe you can see similarities. Either way I hope today is a little easier than yesterday and tomorrow easier again and you find your bright side! Whether you’re rocking it or struggling or a mixture of both I’d love to hear about how things have started off for you #youvegotthis See more
