25.01.2022 Think twice before completing those numerous Facebook quizzes! If you do decide to fill them in just take a moment to check the level of data you're giving to them eg do they really need your email address and date of birth to tell you what animal you're most like?!?
24.01.2022 A sustained period of ultra low interest rates has contributed to the belief that borrowing is, and will always be, cheap. Unfortunately that is unlikely to be the case...
24.01.2022 Expecting the media to call it 'Clean' Brexit rather than 'Hard' Brexit might be too much - after all that would require them to be positive - but well done Forbes! And whilst being bullied (no free movement = no free trade) by the EU doesn't feel like an improved sovereign position or a particularly democratic response it does raise the curious possibility that the entity that ends up bringing us all back together again is the EU!! But this time everyone ends up disliking them! #BSCMPerspectives
23.01.2022 22nd July - House of Lords declares we need to build 300,000 new homes per year to meet demand. 3rd October - Government commits 5bn to build an extra 25,000 by 2020! So say hello to the social schemes looking to print you a home or provide you with a house made from a shipping container.
23.01.2022 Quote from Oxfam raises some interesting questions... 'If tax were paid on the money that the super-rich in Africa are estimated to hold offshore, it would be enough to save four million childrens lives and employ enough teachers to get every African child into school' #BSCMInsight

20.01.2022 Lots of industry talk about whether retirement should be funded from pensions or property. Our view is that whatever people decide to do it needs to be an informed decision made by the individual and not something we are 'told' to do.

16.01.2022 Brexit seems to mean more cost for the Banking sector, but... Banks based in the UK that are forced to focus on delivering better value products and services to UK consumers (all of us not just the wealthy) wouldn't be a bad thing. And if they want to reduce costs the executives could always pay themselves less! (just an idea)
16.01.2022 BSCM wishes all it's clients the very best in these unsettling times. We have contacted all our corporate partners directly and explained our contingency plans. Our mentoring clients will be contacted within next 24 hours to coordinate on-line sessions. Stay safe, stay smart.

11.01.2022 More choice is one thing but if every choice is the same and each provider has the same focus on profits and not people then is simply calling for more choice actually the answer?
11.01.2022 One to consider for those looking at alternatives to Equity Release.
11.01.2022 1 in 4 people will suffer from a mental health problem this year, that's over 17 million people in the UK. Or to put it another way the entire population of London, West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Hampshire and West Yorkshire! #worldmentalhealthday... #BSCMPersepctives See more
10.01.2022 Slightly different question: If the allegations are true and RBS deliberately wrecked small UK businesses in order to generate more profit is there a way back for the RBS brand?

10.01.2022 Brexit and the art of negotiation (part 1). Whichever side of the Brexit fence you sit on, you at least have the satisfaction of knowing that in the main your work is done, you voted or didn't - whether you 'won' or 'lost' by now is out of your hands. However, for those on opposite sides of the negotiating table things are really only just warming up. So far, all the best negotiating feints and maneuvers seem to be coming solely from the EU side of the table. Not unlike the ...England football team being perpetually outwitted at major championships, it would seem that the UK negotiation team have no answer for the free flowing strategic negotiation approach of Barnier et al. Not that the EU approach is some sort of political version of the magnificent Dutch 'Total Football' of the 70's, it is in truth be told more like Beckenbauer's pragmatic 'Italia 90' side. The problem is our meat & potatoes approach (think Hodgson/Allardyce/Maclaren) is still based on former glory rather than modern day standards. Of course, there is a chance that the UK team will manage to grasp victory from the jaws of defeat but given all the data we have, it'll have to be a pretty remarkable second half of negotiations. All that being said, for any student of the art of negotiation, these are fascinating times... https://www.theguardian.com//brexit-talks-are-a-game-playe
09.01.2022 Just when you think it can't get any worse....
08.01.2022 Great news (and we hasten to add) about time. Equity Release might be right for those with no income but for those who are able to maintain some form of payment more needs to be done.
05.01.2022 14th Oct - FCA report published and around 90,000 consumers expected to be due compensation for mis-sold annuities. 18th Oct - Government scraps plans to allow consumers to sell their existing annuities. Is it just us or does the fact they've identified some mis-selling and then abandoned the very thing that would allow consumers to in some way rectify the issue seem a little odd??

01.01.2022 Mar 2008 - Banks commit to responsible lending under new Banking code. Oct 2016 - First Direct offer consumers a 50,000 unsecured loan at a typical rate of 6.7%. How can anyone offering a rate 27 times higher than the Bank of Englands base rate (0.25%) be called responsible?
01.01.2022 So, after all the noise and promise of impending doom post-Brexit. What have we actually learned? Well, for a start England still can't play football, football players & managers still have no limit to their love of money. Politicians continue to excel in all things apart from honesty. Our media love a negative story and there may be some truth in the fact that the British really do keep calm and carry on.
