24.01.2022 Did you know that today is World Cerebral Palsy Day? Cerebral Palsy is a lifelong physical disability that occurs when the developing brain is injured. 1 in 4 people with cerebral palsy have co-occurring behavioural disorders. Fortunately, behavioural disorders typically improve with evidence-based positive behaviour support! If you'd like to know more about CP, how to promote inclusion for people with CP, and/or the research being done in regards to CP, please visit https://cerebralpalsy.org.au///facts-about-cerebral-palsy/
23.01.2022 One of our lovely families alerted me to this post this morning. If you’re looking for help communicating with someone in your life who uses Auslan, or just interested to learn more about Auslan, I highly recommend this app!
20.01.2022 We had a fabulous weekend at our early Bright Start Christmas party. It was so lovely to let our hair down and spend some time in the sun
18.01.2022 It is so important to understand learning disabilities and how to manage them. I love the way this graphic explains these four types of learning disabilities. There are so many great resources out there for awareness and assistance!
15.01.2022 Here are the dates for our Christmas shutdown period. The dates are inclusive, so our last sessions for 2020 will be held on Friday December 18th, and our first sessions for 2021 will be held on Tuesday January 5th.
15.01.2022 A family member of one of our learners was unwell with a cold this morning, and because of the tech knowledge we now have from going through COVID, we were able to move the session online and complete it as normal! During our Zoom session, Mr S told me he has been practising his life-like drawing and was excited to share his illustration of Iron Man with me. I am so blown away by his talent and determination to learn new skills!
12.01.2022 We have some very exciting news - our team is growing! Ellie will be joining us next week as a Behaviour Support Practitioner, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a passion for supporting families. We are so excited to be bringing her on board and know she will be a fantastic addition to our team!
12.01.2022 Practising self care doesn’t have to be complicated. One of my favourite things for winding down is snuggling with this sleepy guy each night. Is there something simple you do for yourself that you find really helpful?
11.01.2022 ADHD isn't just being 'high maintenance' or 'disorganised' or 'hyperactive'. ADHD is real and often debilitating. Let's work towards understanding and support instead of stigma!
10.01.2022 We've decided to upgrade our email addresses! You used to email [email protected] to get in touch with us. We now have a more streamlined system to make sure we can answer you quickly: - If you're making a general enquiry or sending documents, please email [email protected] OR... - For emails directly related to a service you're already receiving, please email [email protected] We've set up an automatic reply on our old email address to help make this easier for everyone and you will also get a verbal reminder in your next session if you're currently receiving services :)
09.01.2022 Love this! Happy International Day of Sign Languages!
07.01.2022 ‘J’ loved his introduction to DRUMBEAT Quest today and learning all about how it will help his brain grow. Therapy should never be boring!
05.01.2022 Physical health and mental health are just as important as each other. Most of us take time every day to care for ourselves physically, so much so that these tasks can become positive habits. We can make this happen for mental health care tasks too! While discussing this with a very imaginative learner, I discovered that some people don’t need to develop habits because they have a magical mind unicorn that helps them remember! Does anyone else have a special secret to remembering to care for themselves?Where can I find one of these unicorns for myself!?
04.01.2022 Super impressed with the personnel transport vehicle W created, complete with moving turret. We’re working on planning, initiating and persevering with tasks, and this cool project came straight from his imagination!
02.01.2022 Miss 13 and I had a great session today creating animal families. Can’t wait to paint them! Art is one of my favourite mediums for helping kids understand relationships and facilitating those more difficult conversations.
