Other example activities that you can use post it notes are:... - Pop Up Pirate - Tumbling Monkeys - Jenga - Mr Potato Head ....to name a few #brightstart #brightstarttherapy #paediatric #paediatricot #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #paediatricotmelbourne #melbourneot #paedsot #letterrecognition #finemotorskills #childdevelopment #otideas #paedsotideas

10.01.2022 Did someone say standing balance?? Our superstar Ollie DID! We are so proud of this little champion, working so hard in the first week of his intensive therapy program and finishing off the week strong with some awesome standing balance... Ollie and his Physio Marilyn are working very hard on developing Ollie’s proprioceptive, vestibular and visual systems to develop postural righting reactions! These three systems are the foundations for good static and dynamic balance and must all integrate effectively to be able to correct or right the body when moving outside of our body’s base of support We love that even when exhausted, we can help our kiddos finish off the week with amazing progress Enjoy your rest buddy and we will see you back in the gym on Monday . . . . . . #intensivetherapy #kidsphysiotherapy #strebgthtraining #pulleysystem #therasuitmethod #spidercagetherapy #ndt #trunkrotation #corestrengthening #standingbalance #proprioception #vestibularsystem #visualsystem #paediatricphysiotherapy #brightstarttherapy

09.01.2022 M O N K E Y T I M E! How's it hanging??! Nick enjoying starting off his OT session with our new climbing ladder! ...climbing playground equipment is one of the many forms of proprioceptive input children can get, which can have a calming and grounding effect on the body (not to mention building up strength!)...proprioceptive input is where we get feedback to our bodies from the deep pressure we get from pulling and pushing and using our muscles , giving us feedback about where our bodies are in space...but most of all...it's just plain fun!!

09.01.2022 F I N E M O T O R F U N Moving through the different stages of pencil grasp development is an important part of childhood development There are principles of development called big to small and proximal to distal... This means that children develop control over the larger muscles of the trunk and arms which are closer to the body centre (proximal) before the smaller muscles of the hands which are distal (further away from the body centre). Learning to control a pencil with the hands and fingers is therefore dependent on how strong and steady the shoulder and arm muscles are As your child develops physically, and takes part in lots of fun gross motor activities such as creeping and crawling, climbing and pushing, the shoulder and arm muscles will get stronger and steadier, and this can have a positive effect on the development of fine motor skills, including pencil grasp. The stages of pencil grasp are: fisted grasp Palmer grasp Digital grasp Modified tripod grasp Mature tripod grasp These Micador Bestie markers are fabulous for little hands or hands requiring strength and development when working towards pre writing skills The bestie markers allow for a whole hand grasp but a beautiful open webspace and rest nicely in the thenar eminence. My toddler (19 months) loves just opening and closing them, although now we have discovered purposeful drawing - it’s become a fave activity as well as drawing on all surfaces So for those wanting a nice little stocking filler this Christmas, these little beauties are perfect for fine motor development as they encourage: bilateral coordination midline development binocular vision fine motor prescribing visual motor integration motor planning . . . . #finemotorskillsforthewin #finemotoractivity #micador #wholehandgrasp #prewritingskills #learningthroughplay #occupationaltherapy #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #playtimeathome #otmumma #playthedayaway #hometherapy #brightstarttherapy

04.01.2022 P R E M M I E P O W E R Today is World Prematurity Day and a day very close to my heart A day to celebrate those tiny miracles born too soon and our world’s youngest survivors... An estimated 15 million babies are born preterm every year more than 1 in 10 babies around the world Every year in Australia more than 27,000 babies are born premature. We are 1 in 10 This is my little premmie warrior, Edison Born too soon at 30 weeks, 4 days. We spent the first 50 days of his life in NICU and Special Care, where I put my faith and hopes in the hands of the hospital day in and day out Being discharged from hospital without your baby was heart breaking but then leaving the nursery every night without him in my arms was the hardest thing I have ever had to do Hoping each day he would grow a little more, sitting by his cot side praying for his monitors not to beep and holding his tiny hand in mine through a hole in a box! Every premmie mum knows the frustrations of corrected age and the unknown of watching and waiting for their development to unfold. I feel so very blessed everyday to have my little man, my happy, my healthy and very cheeky little soul Look how far we have come Sometimes Superhero’s reside in the hearts of small children fighting big battles Love to all our little premmie super stars!! . . . . #worldprematurityday2020 #littlewarrior #oneinten #premmybaby #survivors #littlebutfierce #nevergiveup #fromstrengthtostrength #livinghisbestlife #brightstarttherapy
