25.01.2022 As part of the Leaping Lizard Supporter’s Program, the inaugural Gecko’s Launch was held on Thursday 23rd August at 190 St Georges Terrace, Perth. This hugely successful event in aid of Brightwater’s Oats Street Redevelopment Project was well supported with over 180 people in attendance. Guests were particularly inspired by Claire Stephenson who provided a moving, and at times, humorous, insight into her recovery from brain injury. Other speakers included Dale Alcock (ABN Gro...up MD) and Dr Penny Flett (Brightwater CEO). Brightwater Care Group provides a wide range of support services to Western Australians of all ages and abilities and the Oats Street complex is considered a world-class resource to assist people 18 years and over who are recovering from an acquired brain injury. Brightwater Oats Street is currently being rebuilt in response to the demand for its unique service. The new state-of-the-art premises will provide the best possible opportunities for young people with Acquired Brain Injury to learn how to live again. The Gecko Supporter’s Program is seeking to enlist the support of 500 people to donate $500 each, pledged over 4 years. Over 60 people pledged their support at this event and raised over $28,000. 20.01.2022 On Tuesday 19th June, 120 of Perth's Mining, Minerals and Construction industry luminaries, including representatives from Leighton Contractors, Downer EDI Mining and RIO Tinto, just to name a few attended the launch of, ‘Jonesy’s Vision’ in support of the Brightwater Oats Street Redevelopment Project. The function was dedicated to the leadership of the late John Jones, one of the 7 directors of WA iron ore miner Sundance Resources who were tragically killed in a plane accident in The Republic of Congo two years ago. John Jones had a long involvement with Brightwater; his son Bill resides at a Brightwater community house for young people recovering from brain injuries. John was a great advocate and supporter of Bill and recognised the important role that the Oats Street Rehabilitation Program had in the WA community.

06.01.2022 Brightwater would like to thank the amazing staff at Norton Rose who put on a terrific quiz night in aid of raising money and awareness for the Oats Street facility.

03.01.2022 On Friday 5 October the Perth graduates completed "The Great Lizard Run", a 70km relay from Mandurah to Perth to raise awareness and money for the Brightwater Oats Street Redevelopment Project. Brightwater Oats Street provides specialised slow-stream rehabilitation services for young people living with an acquired brain injury. The event is the first of its kind and was created by the graduates, after a personal experience with acquired brain injury. Mark Boyne, a graduat...e at the centre of the initiative, said it was after his brother sustained a serious head injury during a game of hockey that he realised how serious brain injuries can be. My brother spent three days in an induced coma and we were told he’d have severe brain damage. But he was one of the lucky ones. Unfortunately the vast majority of people who suffer an acquired brain injury are not so lucky and face a long hard road ahead learning to live again. These are the people that we want to help, he said. The Great Lizard Run not only raised vital funds needed to complete the redevelopment of the Brightwater Oats Street Facility, it also aimed to raise awareness in the community for young people living with an acquired brain injury. The graduates include Mark Boyne, Rachel Page, Lilian Ting, Jonathan Wang, Courtney Furner and Joanna Yoon.
