25.01.2022 One for the diary- Playgroup Victoria is coming to Bright to run a session!

22.01.2022 'Tis the season to get decorating and that's exactly what Bright Wild Things did last week! We headed out to the creek at Wandi on a spectacular sunny day (hard to imagine now!) and used gum nuts and other goodies to imprint air-dry clay to make decorations. We had another great turnout with lots of littlies and their mums, dads and grandparents! This week will be our last wild things session for 2017 and will wrap up a really fun and successful first year!! (For those who ...want to join in the fun at home: 2 cups bicarbonate of soda 1 cup cornflour 1.5 cups water Whisk in a pot over medium heat. It will bubble up and then thicken into a ball. Transfer to a bowl and cover with a wet towel until cool. Knead and add more cornflour if it's too sticky. Make decorations and leave to dry for 24-48 hours until hard) See more

22.01.2022 Today we made a mud kitchen to cook some bush delights! No rain, no worries, we all brought along some extra water so we had plenty of muddy fun, and added grass, leaves & flowers too!

22.01.2022 We've had a fun 2 weeks! Last week we had our youngest ever wild thing at only 9 days old come along with his older sister & parents!! What a superstar family! We did some chalk drawings on rocks and then washed them off with sponges followed by some water play with garden pots! This week we learnt about how indigenous Australians used to draw messages on sticks long before phones or even paper, so they could send messages between tribes. We made our own message sticks by hunting for our own stick & painting it! It was really great watching how our little Wild things painted a 3D stick instead of a piece of paper- things like that are so awesome for brain development. And then some water play & frog hunting in the creek!

21.01.2022 This week was our last session of term 1, so we had an Easter treasure hunt with a difference! We had 16 little ones go hunting through the trees at the arboretum to find GOLD pine cones! They then decorated them with fun colours of scrunched up tissue paper and Pom poms! And doesn't tissue paper feel so good to scrunch up?!

21.01.2022 This week we went down to the Buckland River armed with a book on life cycles from the library and aiming to catch & release some tadpoles! We had great success catching a tadpole with no legs, a tadpole with back legs, a froglet with a long tail & a froglet with short tail! And a baby yabby too! It was great to be able to show the kids the different life stages of a frog, both in the book and in real life. But the best part was the kids had a whole lot of fun doing it & the mums & dads got to have a chat while enjoying our beautiful spot!

19.01.2022 Thank you to all the lovely families who have come along to Bright Wild Things Bush Playgroup this term! Here's a little snapshot of the fun we've had this term! Water play, hunting for tadpoles and frogs, making paint from rocks, drawing with chalk on rocks, mud and puddle play, painting message sticks, mud "cooking" and an Easter treasure hunt for gold pine cones to decorate! And a whole lot of free bush play too! While the kids have fun, the parents get to have a chat, and all in the uplifting, beautiful natural environment of Bright. Please invite other parents and grandparents of children 0-5 years old- we love welcoming new faces. Wednesday's 9:30am.

19.01.2022 A beautiful sunny morning in the Wandi bush brought out over 30 Wild Things to play today! New faces, familiar faces & ones we hadn't seen for a little while! Nanna, mums, dad & carers, toddlers running around, babies in prams or carriers & babies inside beautiful pregnant tummies (including one happily chilling out at 9 days overdue! )! There was lots of relaxing, chatting, playing with sticks, throwing long grass off the bridge into the creek, finding leaves & fun getting crafty making crazy critter puppets too! Check out the talent! If this looks like your kind of fun, come and join us next week for a new adventure!

18.01.2022 It was fantastic to see lots of families (and two new families) again this week. It sure makes the time planning Wild Things sessions all worthwhile when we get lots of families enjoying attending our playgroup. This week we had some fun drawing on rocks with chalk, then cleaning them with buckets of water and sponges! It was a hot sunny morning so we walked to a beautiful shady spot on Morses Creek!

16.01.2022 Puddle play = happy kids!! After the rain on the weekend we decided to have some fun in the puddles! We even brought some extra bottles of water to ensure there was plenty of fun to be had! And there was some great practice at pouring from one container to another too! Another Bright Wild Things session ending with wet, muddy, tired but happy kids!

15.01.2022 Today was our last session for 2017. A regular location was made to feel a bit more adventurous today with the fast and full Morses Creek beside us, a wet and muddy track and some branches down to detour around! We found a nice shady spot and decorated sticks with pipe cleaners and ribbon for the festive season! Thank you to all of the families who have been a part of Bright Wild Things in our first year! And many many thanks to Bright Community Bank Branch for sponsoring us so that we can keep each session free of charge for our families! Have a safe break and see you when school returns in February 2018!

15.01.2022 Today 18 Wild Things had fun making bush fridge magnets out at the Bakers Gully Reservoirs! We collected leaves, seeds, moss, flowers and feathers to stick to a drawing on cardboard with a magnet on the back. Check out our talented artists!

14.01.2022 At Bright Wild Things we follow the BushPlay snake guidelines. Please have a read!

14.01.2022 We had a great turnout for a fun & relaxing morning by the Ovens River today. We crushed up rocks to make yellow and red paint to do some bush painting! And we also made a little bit of green paint from the grass too. And of course there was some frog hunting & catching that happened, as well as lots of free bush play to end the morning with wet & dirty & tired little ones!

12.01.2022 Bright Wild Things are all set for some imaginative and sensory fun, making crazy critter puppets tomorrow! Out in the beautiful Wandi bush! All families welcome!

11.01.2022 Now this is an alphabet chart worth printing *Edited to add: I was not expecting this post to be shared so wide and far. I put the link to the artists etsy page in the first comment, however here it is again https://www.etsy.com//2/abcs-of-life-art-print-watercolor And I’ll also add, I never intended my comment to imply you should print this at home, more of a general this is awesome post, and I absolutely hope everyone supports the artist (and I assume that trying to print this screen shot of the Etsy page would only result in a poor quality fuzzy image not worth using anyway). Happy days people!

10.01.2022 Our beautiful spot by the creek this morning!

09.01.2022 We are back this Wednesday 7 Feb 9:30am! Each week details will be posted in our Bright Wild Things Facebook GROUP! So if you are a parent/grandparent/carer of a child 0-5 years and would like to come on our little adventures, look for the link in our pinned post, or search Bright Wild Things in your Facebook search bar and request to join our group.

08.01.2022 On Friday, Bright Wild Things Bush Playgroup was humbled to be invited to the Playgroup Victoria awards night at the Sealife Melbourne Aquarium. We enjoyed a beautiful 3 course meal beside tropical fish swimming around a coral atoll and overlooking the Yarra River. We were honoured to stand alongside some fantastic playgroups to receive finalists awards in 2 categories, Regional/rural Playgroup of the Year and Playgroup Leader of the Year. There were some very deserving winn...ers, including a playgroup in Mildura supporting teenage mums (as young as 13 years old) and it was so inspiring to hear their stories and how they bring hope into the lives of those who need it most. Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year, either by attending or giving words of encouragement, it has helped make Bright Wild Things into a strong and loved little playgroup!

05.01.2022 It was so lovely to be back out doing what Wild Things do this morning! We had a beautiful play in the creek amongst thousands of tadpoles & a decent sized frog that we found! And it was super impressive to have a 37 week pregnant mum & a mum with a 4 week old newborn (our youngest ever wild thing!) both with young toddlers as well! Thanks for coming everyone & making Bright Wild Things what it is!

04.01.2022 We got to welcome quite a few new faces this week to Bright Wild Things Bush Playgroup. Here's a little video of our snack/play spot (turn up the volume for some commentary!) We'd love you to join us for a fun morning in our beautiful bush settings! We try to make it a really easy & relaxing way for families to enjoy our local bush. We put lots of time behind the scenes, into planning the perfect location for the weather forecast, for little legs to walk, a safe area for a group to relax & play, as well as organising fun activities to do! We always have safety in mind with a qualified first aider & first aid kit (not that we've ever needed it so far) & we also do a risk assessment of the location too. We try to take the stress out of going into the bush, so you can just come & enjoy!
