25.01.2022 Here are some great tips to help your kids relax around food. Most importantly No 1: Eliminate pressure. That essentially means no telling them what to eat, how much to eat or what to eat first. Its really hard I know and we have all done it but it is actually really unhelpful so give it a try. https://mommadefoods.com/m/5-tips-to-help-your-picky-eater

25.01.2022 This weekend has meant back into lockdown for many. COVID 19 has been particularly challenging for people living with eating disorders. For anyone out there needing a reminder that you deserve to eat here it is. No matter how much or little you moved your body today. No matter what you ate earlier or yesterday and regardless of your body size. You deserve to eat regularly and to eat enough. Follow the fabulous Foodandfearless if you need some regular reminders... https://www.instagram.com/p/Bk8_nbFFbri/

19.01.2022 Growing evidence that focusing on weight and weight loss is not necessary. When we focus on heathy habits, in this case healthy eating, we can improve our health. A side note: This study demonstrates that eating in line with a Mediterranean style diet improves health and longevity. This ‘diet’ is not focused on eating less etc it is a flexible way of eating including mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy, olive oil and fish. A good reminder that how we eat is important and carbohydrates and not ‘bad’ for us. https://www.abc.net.au//health-bmi-vs-diet-for-r/12688270

19.01.2022 Please sign and share this petition to stop weight watchers targeting children http://chng.it/Py67KLknXz

18.01.2022 WW, Weight Watchers or Wellness that Works. Whatever you want to call them they are still selling diets. Last year they targeted teens and now their new app Kurbo is aimed at kids as young as 8!! "I don’t know about you, but the image of an 8-year old child logging their ice-cream cone into a calorie-counting app just breaks my heart."

17.01.2022 An eating disorder tells you the worst thing that can happen is weight gain but it doesn’t tell you all the other things you will gain in the process. A lovely post from @healingcrayons https://www.instagram.com/p/CP-36YkLLKC/

16.01.2022 Mens health week. Let’s remember that eating disorders and poor body image impact our boys and men too Over-exercising and an extreme pursuit for muscle growth are often perceived as healthy behaviours for males... 90 per cent of adolescent boys report that they exercise primarily to gain muscle Two-thirds of adolescent boys report making specific changes to their diet to gain muscle 25 per cent of people experiencing Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa are male Almost an equal number of males and females experience binge eating disorder Eating disorders have one of the highest mortality rates of all psychiatric disorders Suicide rates are 20 per cent higher in eating disorder patients than in the general population If you are concerned about a loved one get in touch or for more information visit https://thebutterflyfoundation.org.au

15.01.2022 Eating disorders certainly do thrive in isolation. If you are struggling with eating and body image issues please talk to your GP or call an experienced healthcare provider. Recovery is possible.

15.01.2022 Do you know people who naturally have a thinner body? So can you accept that some people naturally have a fatter body? It’s called body diversity. Why is this so hard for us to accept?

14.01.2022 I have been wanting to offer talks and workshops again but I found myself stuck procrastinating about the best way to do it. So... I am trialling Zoom and offering a free live webinar for a small number of people who are willing to attend and give me feedback on their experience. If you are fed up with dieting and are interested in a new approach to eating (important point: the goal is not weight loss) check out the details below. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/an-introduction-to-intuitiv

12.01.2022 Food is, and has always been, more than just fuel. I couldn’t agree more with this from statement from Dr Kari Andreson.

11.01.2022 Did you know that people in larger bodies can suffer with anorexia nervous? A life threatening mental illness. Sadly they are often told over and over again they should lose weight rather than getting the medical care and eating disorder treatment they deserve. You can’t see eating disorders they impact people of all body shapes and size. This week Tess Holliday came out and courageously talked about her experience.... https://www.instagram.com/p/COyqTaDjIJ3/

10.01.2022 I haven’t posted here for months but lately I am overwhelmed by the harmful messages I see shared so casually even comically. Messages telling us that we should fear gaining weight more than we should fear corona virus or depression from social isolation. Messages that reinforce the belief that our worth is determined by our weight. Today is international No Diet Day. It’s time we all said no more. Enough. If not for ourselves then for our children. ... Thank you to the Butterfly Foundation for this reminder of the harm that can begin with dieting #nodietday

09.01.2022 This is beautiful

09.01.2022 Well done Instagram A great move to help protect vulnerable teens from potentially harmful so-called ‘miracle’ products.

08.01.2022 A beautiful painting and message. Love the skin that you’re in.

07.01.2022 I am now seeing adolescents who are struggling with disordered eating, eating disorders or body image concerns. If you have concerns about your childs eating habits or relationship with food and their body please get help immediately. Eating disorders can develop quickly and can have severe consequences. I am always more than happy to discuss treatment options available. https://health.usnews.com//binge-eating-disorder-in-kids-w

06.01.2022 A wise compassionate piece about emotional eating. Step 1. Lose the judgement.

06.01.2022 A great move in the right direction. Representation matters

05.01.2022 A beautiful message for all those people living with an eating disorder. It’s important to be reminded of the strength you have to continue fighting for recovery. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLKZ2EipNmj/?igshid=mk2x1wiw8he6

04.01.2022 Interesting article from SMH discussing the cause of the increasing prevalence of eating disorders. This focus (on obesity) is also increasing the levels of anxiety and distress around eating and food consumption. For young children, this is being seen through increasing levels of anxiety around eating, restrictive eating, withdrawal from meals with their family and isolating behaviours with food. https://www.smh.com.au//eating-disorder-cases-have-doubled

03.01.2022 How refreshing! Canadas 2019 food guidelines encouraging people to be mindful of our eating habits, try and cook more often, enjoy our food and eat with others. Joining Japan, Brazil and others who emphasise that HOW we eat is as important as WHAT we eat. ... Well done Canada - when will Australia follow in your footsteps?
