25.01.2022 Grant applications are now open for the Brimbank Community Fund. This fund exists to support Brimbanks most vulnerable residents through grassroots solutions. It is guided by an independent committee of voluntary local leaders supported by Council and the Lord Mayors Charitable Foundations. Mayor - Cr Georgina Papafotiou Brimbank City Council said she hoped local community groups would take advantage of this opportunity to boost support in areas ranging from education, empl...oyment and supporting young people and families. In 2020 the grants will focus on: - Improving the education, employment and wellbeing of Brimbanks young people (up to 25 years old) - Improving services and support that specifically address mental health issues within the Brimbank community - Providing practical support to those experiencing domestic violence within the Brimbank community, with a view to self-empowerment Grants of up to $10,000 for a single year project or $10,000 per year for three years for a multi-year project. 25.01.2022 The number one thing you can do to help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) is to get tested when youre sick. Every test increases understanding of how the virus is spreading. Even if you have been tested before but have symptoms again, Brimbank Council encourages you to still get tested. Any of these symptoms however mild get tested and get yourself home: Fever Chills or sweats... Cough or sore throat or shortness of breath Runny nose Loss of sense of smell or taste The drive-thru testing site at Keilor Community Hub at 704B Old Calder Highway continues to operate every day from 10am to 4pm and you can travel beyond your 5km radius restriction to get tested. 24.01.2022 We're starting work to relocate the Sydenham Memorial outside the Watergardens Train Station, to the northeast face of the Sydenham Library building. Works are expected to be completed by end of November 2020. The project, funded by the Department of Transport (DoT), is part of overall upgrade works to improve pedestrian access at the train station. The works include building three new lifts at Watergardens Station to help people move around the station more easily. The new l...ifts will include: - More space to increase capacity - CCTV coverage and improved lighting - Backup power supply - More open design The DoT and Council will continue to provide updates as the project continues. 16.01.2022 From Monday 21 September, road rehabilitation works will start on Driscolls Road, Kealba, between McShane Drive to Leavesdon Avenue. The upgrade works will include new footpaths, vehicle crossings, new kerb and drainage and asphalting works. The roundabout at McShane Drive will be reconstructed to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians. Roads will be closed to traffic from 7.30am-5pm with local access maintained during the closure. ... 06.01.2022 Brimbank Council has renewed calls for a whole-of-government response to the closed Sunshine landfills after VCAT approved plans for five double storey dwellings on a residential property encroached by buried waste. Council had refused the permit on grounds it was inconsistent with local planning policy and did not respect the neighbourhood character in terms of siting, setbacks, design detail, large backyards and the landscape setting. 06.01.2022 While the Victorian Government has extended Stage four lockdown for metropolitan Melbourne, some restrictions are set to ease slightly from 11.59pm on Sunday 13 September under the States roadmap for reopening for Melbourne. This means Brimbank Council will be able to reopen some select Council spaces and services. Our outdoor playgrounds, off leash dog parks and outdoor exercise equipment will re-open for use, with physical distancing and group number limits in place.... Our libraries will bring back the Click and Collect service for library members, and the Home Library Service and the Library to Your Door services will also be available. Library return chutes will also be open so that borrowed library materials can be returned. The COVID-19 Community Connector Program offers practical assistance and emotional support to vulnerable and isolated people living in Brimbank. 02.01.2022 Closed Sunshine Landfills Community Update In February 2020, Council started an engagement program with landowners and occupiers in St Albans and Albion about buried waste and the potential for landfill gas in their properties that relates to the Sunshine Landfills, which were closed in 1990. This program builds on previous engagement by Council with the local community This engagement is ongoing and Council is seeking to work with the Victorian Government to develop a coordi...nated response to these issues so the affected communities do not have to bear the burden of past waste management practices. Council has prepared an Implementation Plan to respond to issues arising from community and government engagement for the closed Sunshine Landfills and the understanding that these issues will need long term consideration.
