25.01.2022 Me: Yeah! I'm going to rewind bobbins to improve my plying! Also me: Yeaaaa, I'm gonna ply this at 2am in an insomnia haze and also do it one handed so I can scroll Facebook at the same time.

25.01.2022 I'm so excited! A huge Katrinkles order has finally made its way out of New York and into my eagerly awaiting hands. I now have all these wrap per inch and needle gauge tools back in stock, with free shipping! You can find them all at https://www.brindabellayarncraft.com.au/katrinkles Which one's your favourite?

24.01.2022 Today I finished making some stitch markers! I've been teaching myself basic wire wrapping and playing around with my small and neglected beading stash. Here's some cute little sock needle stitch markers. Check out picture three for an example of why my stitch markers constantly disappear! #knitstagram #knittersofaustralia #stitchmarkers #helpingcats #craftingwithcats

23.01.2022 Anyone interested in ordering some Malabrigo Rios? This 10 ply (worsted) pure merino superwashyarn is soft and squishy and dyed in the most sumptuous colours. I'm so excited to start offering this yarn that I'm introducing it at the special price of $22 per skein, with $12.50 flat rate shipping. A list of colourways available is in the comments below. Please let me know which colour you'd be interested in purchasing. This is obligation free and with the caveat that shipping may take some time in this brave new world of ours.

22.01.2022 This is my first finish off the year, an alpaca and sheep woven scarf. And the first thing I've woven with my own handspun. The warp is a handspun mix of Corriedale sheep, Merino sheep, Huacaya alpaca and Suri alpaca. The weft is Peruvian Highland wool. Love how it turned out! It's super warm and fluffy.

21.01.2022 Some early morning knitting went down, while waiting at the mechanics this morning. Did you know cars have shoes? And that when it needs new ones they cost A THOUSAND DOLLARS. #todayilearned #thisknowledgedoesnotbringmejoy

17.01.2022 I've been working on the Windowpane socks by @lucyknit and I just wanted to show you the mental amount of tails once I'd finished knitting the cuff and cuff facing. It reminds me of a little blue bottle! #knitallthesocks #knittersofaustralia #knitstagram

17.01.2022 I've just listed these adorable cat buttons on the website. They're a great way to brighten up a handmade item for a little (or big) person. They're 10 cents each and all buttons ship for $3.50 regardless of how many you buy.

16.01.2022 A spin is spun! I used a forward short long draft, which is a Frankenstein of a method. :P Pinch the fibre, draft forward, then release the front hand and let the twist run in. Then I move my front hand back, pinch, twist in the opposite direction to the twist to unlock the yarn, then draft forward again. This method is great for creating airy, fluffy, woollen-esque yarn from combed top. Best part of this spin: It's so quick! ... Worst part of the spin: When I had just finished transitioning from purple to grey and noticed that I'd dropped half a fibre nest of purple fibre on the floor! I had to pull the transitioned colours off the bobbin, break the yarn, do some shifty joins to add in that purple, then join the transition on again and keep spinning. Hardest part of the spin was definitely some of the transitions. Because I dizzed the combed fibre off a hackle the start of the fibre nests have the longest fibres, and the end of the nests have the shortest. Trying to draft smoothly and consistently when I'm trying to mix the shortest merino almost-neps with the longest mohair or longwool was a real nightmare. At some points it seemed like I was almost corespinning, with the tiny merino fibres curling around the longwool and forming almost a glaze. It was really interesting, and something I'd like to try and replicate later. All up, this was a lovely easy spin that was perfect for a week that contained two (2) natural disasters. I only had one of what I call a buffer underrun (anyone else remember the joy of burning CDs with Windows 95 and a 4X burner?), where I draft too fast for my wheel's speed and the fibre flies apart before it reaches the bobbin. The yarn is now marinating, ready for finishing tomorrow. #spinnersofinstagram #spinoffmagazine #spinoffmittalong #australianyarn #espinner

16.01.2022 Hello! Just wanted to let you all know that Brindabella Yarn Craft has undergone a total revamp! It's prettier, shinier and easier to use. :)

16.01.2022 Today's lunchtime knitting was a real treat: @hunterhammersen's Constellate hat in @malabrigoyarn sock yarn. I just love the complexity of colours on this yarn, as well as the palette. #knittersofaustralia #knitstagram #lunchtimeknitting

14.01.2022 Today's lunchtime knitting is this stunning Constellate hat pattern by @hunterhammersen, knit in @malabrigoyarn sock. I really love the colour variation going on here. Not sure yet if sitting on the luscious, sweet rain and knitting with it was a great idea though. I hope the dye doesn't run! #knitstagram #knittersofaustralia #knittersofinstagram #lunchtimeknitting

14.01.2022 Here's the first thirty days of 2020, expressed through cross stitch. It's still very clown barf, so I decided to make it extra. Grey background for days with hazardous air quality, beads for catastrophic hail and red sparkle over stitching for Canberra's hottest day on record (so far...). #crossstitch #climapocalypse

13.01.2022 New to the shop are a range of stitch marker sets! This set of pastel stars will brighten up your knitting or crochet as well as keep track of your stitches. https://www.brindabellayarncraft.com.au//star-stitch-marke

11.01.2022 I finished this shawl a few months back and finally took a photo today! Pattern is Cameo Flower by @miaknits (free in @knittymag!) and the yarn is handspun by me, dyed by @hyper_pixie_studio. I had two braids of this lovely Corriedale/silk blend, which were dyed as mirror gradients. I pulled the braids apart into like colours and spun as a simple gradient, but with ripples of colour from the colour transitions from the original braids. The colour ripples are enhanced by the t...wo-ply construction, as the two spun strands also vary. I like it! And the effect is international... But I'm not sure that's clear in the yarn and it kinda just looks like a poorly spun gradient. #knittersofaustralia #knittersofinstagram #spinnersofinstagram #shawladdict

09.01.2022 I am in love with these fan buttons! They just scream 'embroidery' to me, but they'd also look great on a garment. Maybe as decoration on a handwoven shawl? They're 10 cents each. Pick your designs and pay a total of $3.50 no matter how many buttons you buy.

08.01.2022 Are you spooky crafting? I've just added this range of 12mm cat eyes in ten glorious colours. I think the yellow, orange or ruby red would look amazing if you're knitting or crocheting a black cat. Each pair of eyes come with a metal washer that is practically impossible to remove once you've secured the eye in place... ask me how I know! :P

07.01.2022 Welcome to the new followers! I have been quiet for ages because things have been... Tricksy. As they have for us all. My go-to stress relief is knitting beanies. Here's three that have just finished blocking. What have you all been working on lately? Knitting? Sewing? Baking? Trying not to scream?

06.01.2022 I'm really excited to add this gorgeous darning loom by Katrinkles to the shop! I've patched a few socks in my time and this loom is going to make that so much easier. You can click through to see more photos on the item's page, as well as a link to a video of the loom in action.

06.01.2022 I sat down at my blending hackle today to prepare some spinning fibre, abs all the terror and despair from the last month of catastrophic bushfires came pouring out. I'm calling this blend 'Summer 19'. #spinnersofinstagram #spin15aday #knittersofaustralia #climateemergency

04.01.2022 Thanks to @flossed.in.translation I've been cross stitching again! This pattern is a daily temperature record, that's meant to end up looking like a beautiful rainbow gradient. But mine looks like a box of crayons vomited everywhere because climapocalypse. #crossstitchersofinstagram #crossstitch #theapocalypseisratherunsightly

02.01.2022 In between catastrophic hail, bushfire evacuation, heat waves and a new job I have finally finished SOCKS. Pattern: Windowpane Socks by @lucyknit Yarn: Sully by Flock and Needle (@rubyfoxyarns) and Daydream Yarns.... #knittersofaustralia #knittersofinstagram #sockknitting

02.01.2022 I'm experimenting with rewinding my handspun before plying. I can't say yet if it's improved my yarn but it's certainly upped my insta game! I'm loving how sleek these bobbins look.

02.01.2022 Awwww, yeah yarn! Finished these babies today. I totally forgot about fulling when I was tying up these skeins, otherwise I would have done more than one basic tie! The fulling process of dunking them into hot and cold water turned the yarn into knots. Buuuut, too late to fix. So I let them hang dry and then untangled and balled the yarn by hand. I'm very happy with how consistent the two balls are. Hopefully they'll make a nice matched pair of mitts.... #spinoffmittalong #spinoffmagazine #spinnersofinstagram

01.01.2022 Well it's been a fucking terrifying week so I thought I'd distract myself with some spinning. I've been planning a #spinoffmagazine Mitt-along spin for a while now, using some hand combed fibres I had in my 'ready to spin' basket. Past me, the jerk, totally failed to label these blends so I'm kinda guessing what they are. The purple is a purple mix art batt from @scottscreekfibresau, combed with some navy Shetland from @handcrafted_gifts and some dyed longwool locks from @s...cottscreekfibresau (I think?). The light blue is some white mohair from Frank the goat farmer on Facebook (XD), grey Corriedale (I think?) from @feltfine and a merino/silk art batt from @mariereddingarts. The navy is a merino/silk/angelina art batt from @mariereddingarts . --- My plan is to spin a yarn like @eisaku_noro 's Kureyon, a thickish single-spun yarn with bold colours that have long transitions between them. Yes, I know this is a commercial yarn that's designed to mimic handspun yarn. This is definitely a case of life imitating art. The inspiration for this project is @claraparkes Knitters Book of Yarn, which has a pattern for simple mitts in Noro Kureyon, or similar yarn. --- First step! Weight out my clouds of floof and assemble them into a colour progression. I'm going to spin two skeins, one for each mitt. I'm using my Erotel Roberta e-spinner, on a slow speed with no tension. I'm spinning Z too as I'm a continental knitter. So when I knit with this later with the yarn in my left hand I'll be adding twist to the spun single, rather than removing twist and potentially destroying the yarn. --- Now to the wheel!
