18.01.2022 Sharing The future has come! Say goodbye to metal rods, #ExtremeTuners has released its _ Carbon... ... Greek trainer Extreme Tuners presented rods made of carbon fiber by 3 D printing. These pieces were developed for their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo that features up to 3.000 hp and it's the first time I've heard of functional rods made in this material. Some manufacturers, like Lamborghini, commented that they were working on carbon fiber rods, but so far there's nothing official. These carbon fiber rods made by Extreme Tuners weigh only 77 grams. This means they weigh less than 10 times less than steel rods and 6,5 times less than aluminum rods. Moreover, they are much more resilient than those made in the other two materials mentioned above. Extreme Tuner s' carbon fiber rods were developed in order to withstand the extreme demand of Extreme Tuner s' Mitsubishi Lancer Evo engine. This engine can deliver about 3.000 hp and spins at 15.000 rpm. To manufacture these carbon fiber rods, Extreme Tuners turned to 3 D printing and finite element resistance calculation. Thanks to the making of 3 D printing, the rod body features a reticular structure rather than a solid structure, a factor in which the lightness of the set lies. The secret to these Extreme Tuner s' carbon fiber rods is that according to the manufacturer, they combine great mechanical traction strength and compression with a great lightness, so that their inertia is minimal. Carbon fiber also presents better heat resistance than aluminum and steel. See more

14.01.2022 Like most speed shops we get a lot of questions, & one that keeps coming up, refers to Magnafuel & why is my pump noisey &/or leaking. Circa 2000’s back in the early MAGNAFLOW days we called our supplier who told us they don’t see any warranty problems with the leaking seal etc,, so then we asked how many seal kits do you sell, to which their answer inturn answered my question, oh, quite a few actually! Next we called Magnafuel USA to which we received no explaination... other than they have a special seal (which appears to be a generic NOK seal) that is compatible with all Racing fuels. (albeit the material is unconfirmed to us here at BP) We still prefer & recommend Magnafuel & we have dozens of these pumps in our customers cars & most of them street cars running dual fuels, however the problem is definitely more common in the street stuff on PULP. Now this could be as simple as the seals incompatibility to the coolant (a fuel stabiliser fuel companies add to the fuel up here in the North). However we are unlikely to ever confirm this, & as we all well know oil/fuel companies will never admit to anything, the worn flat tappet camshafts is a testiment to that. This is not a new problem, it seems it will be an ongoing one & possibly not going away anytime soon. So moving forward our best advice is to replace the seal/bearings every 12months or so. It’s a very very simple inexpensive job, & we are happy to do it for you or show you how to do it. Below is a picture of a 12 month old seal that has seen Methanol & flushed with pump gas. The pump wasnt leaking, the customer just wanted it serviced. The seal is still in good shape, nice & soft but as you can see it has definitely shrunk. This allows the fuel to obviously leak around the seal which then washes the grease out of the lower bearing causing it to fail (which is the noise you can hear).

07.01.2022 Every few years it seems like a wave of questions crash all at once about adding taper to flat tappet camshafts. Most OEM's match the taper, lifter offset, and... lifter crown to center the contact force on the lobe center. At COMP, we cheat a little bit to the high side, moving the contact center about 0.030" to .050" to the high side of the lobe center. This adds a little more torque to spin the tappet without greatly reducing the loaded area. If you choose to go less than our target range (.0009" to .0012" over .300" per side) with a standard lifter crown and lobe offset, we find that is bad for initial lifter rotation. Choosing to go with higher taper greatly reduces the overall life as you loss contact area as the low side is left untouched. We are glad to hit any taper target a customer might have, but honestly you can see how going either direction is a bad idea when you really investigate the contact as shown in the four Small Block Chevy Crown and Taper pictures attached below. I sincerely hope this helps people understand how lifter crown, lobe offset to the lifter bore, and the "magic" lobe taper numbers all work together to optimize the wear pattern on a flat tappet camshafts. There is so much misinformation and conjecture you can find online, but looking at the interface really makes this relationship quite simple (IMHO). See more

01.01.2022 Fred Carrillo’s legacy continued: After Fred Carrillo’s land speed racing accident, he wanted to stay in racing and with his extensive engineering background, ...he went to his hotrod buddies and asked them what they needed. They all said they needed a good steel rod, so Fred set out to just do that. Back in the day there was only one other company making stronger than stock conrods. They made pattern of OEM I-beam rods and cast new ones in 4130 steel. Fred figured he could do better than that and make a stronger rod by using a H beam design. He also used a better steel, based on a 4340 steel. So in 1963, he formed Carrillo Industries in San Juan Capistrano, CA to produce connecting rods. And the rest is history. Internationally recognized for close to 60 years, Carrillo rods continue to set the industry standard, favored for their durable design and reliability. #themoreyouknow #Racinglegend #FredCarrillo #Carrillo #carrillorods #cpcarrillo #MadeinAmerica #reliability #Durability
