20.01.2022 The Reserve committee is looking to raise money from cashing in cans and bottles used at the reserve. If you have an old unused wheelie bin which could be converted to a container for these, can you please let us know.
20.01.2022 Throughout the remnant vegetation a native grass is beginning to flower. Austrostipa sp or spear grass make a wonderful site as it blows in the wind. This perennial grass would have been wide spread on the hills and plains around Port Lincoln.
18.01.2022 As a result of the rain several sections of the walking track may be wet and muddy. Please be careful until these areas dry out over the next few days.
18.01.2022 Bridal creeper rust fungus was released in Australia in 2000. It infects the leaves and stems absorbing nutrients from the plant, slowing plant development and reproduction and reducing the production of stems, fruit, rhizomes and tubers. Severely diseased plants shed infected leaves prematurely. The rust fungus first appears on bridal creeper 1-2 months after the first autumn rains, spreading prolifically over winter and peaking in spring when the plant flowers and fruits. The fungus can produce many generations a year, resulting in large amounts of wind- dispersed spores. The spores remain in the leaf litter over summer, allowing the re- infection of bridal creeper plants after their re-emergence in autumn.
15.01.2022 Lovely to see so many using the reserve, which is at it’s best this time of the year. Thanks to recent users who left a lovely donation and left everything in a clean and tidy condition. That’s very heartening for the volunteers.
12.01.2022 Can users of the reserve please do the right thing and clean the barbecue for the next user. There is no paid cleaner, and it is disappointing for volunteers to have to clean them so frequently, especially when people leave them like this but no contribution to the donation box.
12.01.2022 Bearded dragon sunning herself this morning. As the photo was taken a butterfly landed on her
12.01.2022 Clearing the Reserve of the Aleppo pines is well underway. If anyone is interested in collecting the pine logs please call Craig on 0427821768.
10.01.2022 Friends of Brinkworth Reserve, recipients of $6,300 Grass Roots Grant, will use the funds to remove Aleppo Pines, box-thorn, olives and other invasive weeds in the reserve in coming months. Aleppo pines are considered a pest plant. They are prolific seeders, potentially depositing between 25 - 105 seeds per square meter, studies have estimated mature trees can produce about 17,400 seeds per year. Brinkworth Volunteer monitor the reserve for seedlings and remove them. The rocky outcrops around pines will be re-vegetated with local native species in 2021. Work will in the next few weeks.
06.01.2022 Brinkworth Reserve is looking great after the recent rain thanks to the hard working volunteers who have regular working bee's keeping the park in tiptop condition. A great place to kick a football, run and explore, play hide and seek, and exercise your dog.
05.01.2022 Lots happening at Brinkworth Reserve. A great place to walk in the morning or in the cool of the evenings as there are so many wanderer butterflies fluttering around your feet, in the grass and shrubs. Can you take a photo and load it on this web page? Nest boxes to find and observe and pine cones to collect ready for winter.
03.01.2022 Brinkworth Reserve are successful in the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Boards first Grassroots Grants. $6,300 grant will be used to remove Allepo Pines from the Reserve and undertake a revegetation program to create habitats for the birds and butterflies.
01.01.2022 Once again the Brinkworth Reserve is very grateful to receive a $2000.00 grant from the Bendigo Bank. The funds will be used to upgrade the technology of the committee, leading to improved record keeping.
