20.01.2022 The Woolworths Discovery Garden is a great way to get the kids involved with some fun, and save some money on future purchases. This is a great article explaining how to make them go even further. Oh and dont plant them all now - some are out of season. Pic in comments showing when to plant them.

19.01.2022 There is only one thing to accomplish in the midst of a pandemic and that is survival. No one should feel compelled nor shamed to extend their reach and accompl...ish more. That applies to thinking you should achieve special projects or that your kids must address educational expectations. We are in a pandemic putting us and loved ones at risk where people are also losing the jobs and any savings they may have had. Having enough headspace to manage anything beyond survival is so taxing so as to be unachievable. If you just survive, you have succeeded. Many wont achieve that. Keep your expectations in check.

18.01.2022 Were all in this together...

18.01.2022 These are great resolutions to make. But what if the other parent just won't meet you halfway? Contact us about parenting coordination and mediation to help your children have better co-parents.

18.01.2022 Looking at the Christmas lights is a great, relatively inexpensive activity to spend some special time with your children If youre looking for the best lights in Brisbane, this list has you covered.

18.01.2022 It's Mother's Day in Australia tomorrow. It's a day which can be tough for separated families. If the kids are going to be with their Mum on Dad's weekend, he might feel like he is missing out on time, or missing the opportunity for his Mum to see the grandkids. Grandmas can feel left out. There are lots of ways families who work with us choose to navigate special days like Mother's Day and Father's Day and the Our Families in Two Homes resource package helps work throu...gh those. In the meantime our advice as Mediators and Parenting Coordinators, is to make it easier on the kids and let them love all the important women in their lives (and men on Father's Day). If you are a Dad, encourage them make a Mother's Day card (and maybe a gift) for Mum. It shows that you respect their Mother and reduces their feeling of being caught in conflict. If you are a Mum, encourage them to do the same for their Dad's Mum (and maybe even his new wife...?) Remember, your kids won't remember why you got divorced, but they will remember how they experienced it. See more

18.01.2022 This article by one of the mediators on our panel explains the way we prefer to work to change the way families navigate their family law separation.

18.01.2022 Some of Jennifer Hetherington's colleagues on the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) board didn't believe that The Nutbush is actually a thing. Here's the proof (and their demonstration is MUCH better than her very rusty and uncoordinated attempt!) Do you have teenage memories of The Nutbush at your school disco?

18.01.2022 Parenting a teenager can come with special challenges but when they start using words we dont understand (yeet!) or words that have a different meaning, it can be even more challenging. So heres our tip for Christmas gift giving tip: If someone asks for a pineapple for Christmas, they are referring to the gold thing on the right, not the fruit on the left! Apparently the other notes (from left to right) are a lobster, blue swimmer crab and a prawn. ... Who knew?

15.01.2022 Sometimes you have to let them forget their hat. The child had just started high school and forgot to take his sports hat. As he was adjusting to a big change, the parent took it into the school office so the child would not be singled out in the first week. A few months later, the hat was forgotten again.... This time the parent had work commitments. Dropping the hat in would have had consequences for the parent, and the parents client. This was explained to the child, and that he would have to face the consequences of his forgetfulness. He got a uniform pass and a warning that next time would result in detention. When children live in two homes, they can forget to take things between those homes. A good parenting agreement covers what happens in that situation - whether it is a pick up or drop off of the item (or not) and what the consequences should be.

08.01.2022 If you are co-parenting and your kids are with the other parent, social distancing can mean boredom or loneliness. If you have been working from home this week, that may increase. Staying connected via social media and phone calls with friends is important, as is getting out in your backyard or balcony. Our founder Jennifer Hetherington is planning to spend some time in the garden doing some long overdue weeding, to get some Vitamin D and fresh air. That will be followed by some time on the couch doing some crosswords and watching some movies. What are you doing to pass the time this weekend? And what are your movie recommendations (either family friendly or ones for when the kids are not there or in bed!)

08.01.2022 Tired of your teenager blaming any perceived annoying or bad behaviour on some mythical woman named 'Karen'? The woman who provided the voice for the Australian Siri, is named none other than...Karen. So next time your teen picks up their phone to ask a question, try asking "oh you're asking Karen for help now?!"... It's time for the Karens of the world to get their name back!
