24.01.2022 PEOPLE OF BNE: Andy Bauer, Base Manager and Pilot, Virgin Australia "There is no such thing as a typical day in my world. We have realised how important the ability to travel is. We see the emotion when disconnected guests finally get to reunite with their loved ones or even just return home. This underpins our crew’s behaviour to operate in a COVID safe way to make sure we can keep doing that. In terms of travel, pilots and cabin crew have new behaviours to adopt like wearing masks, self-isolation and other requirements that vary from State to State. Be assured that the COVID transmission risk in the aircraft is very low. We wouldn’t fly ourselves if we thought otherwise." Read more People of BNE stories: https://fal.cn/3b3c0

20.01.2022 TRAVEL INSPIRATION Uluru is an ‘island mountain’ which began its formation more than 550 million years ago and, risen from the sea, now stands a majestic 348 metres above ground. However, perhaps even more startling, about 2.5km of it is, in fact, underground. What you’re really seeing is the tip of a huge, hot, red iceberg.
19.01.2022 PEOPLE OF BNE: Tim Williams, Major Assemblies Controller, Alliance Airlines I’ve worked at the Brisbane Airport precinct since 1995, with a brief hiatus in 2001 due to another downturn in the aviation industry and it has always been a dynamic, constantly evolving industry where there is always more you can learn about aircraft and how to operate them. Right now, all efforts are being made to ensure your flight is a safe and comfortable experience and Alliance has maintained operations throughout the current COVID-19 crisis, adapting our onboard and cleaning processes for the changed requirements. 19.01.2022 The Queensland border is open (except to Adelaide ). Adelaide remains a declared COVID Hotspot by the Queensland Chief Health Officer. If you have been in a declared COVID Hotspot in the past 14 days, you will not be permitted to enter Queensland, unless you are a Queensland resident or an exempt person.... From 1 Dec, passengers are only required to apply for a border pass if in the last 14 days, you have been in a hotspot or overseas and didn’t fly into Queensland when you arrived in Australia. Residents returning to QLD who have been in a declared COVID-19 hotspot in the previous 14 days, will be required to undertake quarantine in a Government arranged hotel for two weeks at their own expense. 17.01.2022 PEOPLE OF BNE: Kersty Christensen, Head of Workplace Health & Safety "During the past year, we really brought back the H that is sometimes forgotten in Workplace Health and Safety, so a really big focus has been in that health and hygiene space. Focusing on building the team's capabilities in that area, learning new skills and providing a clean, healthy environment for members of the public and airport workers to come to." "While our International Terminal is still ver...y quiet, Domestic is where our focus is and what is really working well is the layered approach and collaboration between the government agencies and Brisbane Airport in our response to issues arising from COVID, whether that be border closures or the health measures that are being put in place." Watch on to learn more about our recent Airport Health Accreditation and wearing masks at Brisbane Airport. If you want a heads up on what to expect at Brisbane Airport next time you travel, here is a guide that we prepared earlier https://fal.cn/3drIZ

11.01.2022 PEOPLE OF BNE: Mason Harman, Barista, Coffee Royal "Working in hospitality it’s actually been quite easy to adapt to the new COVID safe plans, as there has always been an emphasis on cleanliness and food handling safety. We have sanitising stations at all our venues next to the registers, great cleaning staff who make sure that all the seating areas are looked after, and we now have a sign in website for those who dine in at our restaurants." "All of the airport staff ...here have had the time to ensure everything is safe and clean, from the security at check in to those of us selling coffees upstairs. It may be quieter than usual, but that just means you won’t be spending as much time waiting in line at security, and you’ll be on your flight in no time." 07.01.2022 What happens at the airport during a #BNEstorm? Storms affect both on ground operations at the airport, as well as the way in which aircraft arrive and depart from the airport. Safety is always the #1 priority and pilots will determine the route they need to take to avoid storm activity and work with Air Traffic Control to action. This may mean you see aircraft outside normal flight paths during bad weather and delays to flights arriving and departing.... Read our guide: bne.com.au/storms
