12.01.2022 - There are a number of flowering trees in the Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha, during the month of April and nine so stately and beautiful than Corymbia ptychocarpa. Its Family, Myrtaceae, with its common name, Swamp Bloodwood, is a tall and lean tree with a steely ness that impresses from leaf to bloom.... Whether pink or red, this bloom emerges with a visual punch that quite takes ones breath away! One can oft be stumbled across, with some surprise, beginning its flowering from April through June, while wandering along any neighborhood street in subtropical climes, such is the draw of its floral beauty. Stately specimens stretch skyward in our Brisbane Botanic Garden campus, Mt Coot-tha in the Australian species section, atop the hill, to be sure, where, in full bloom, the bees are assured to be buzzing! Originally found in gallery forests in Western Australia and the Northern Territory, this species is now commonly grown as a street tree. A crooked tree that tends to flop when young, it often has drooping branches. The lanceolate, leathery leaves are up to 30 cm long and 7 cm wide, the midrib is pale yellow in contrast to the green lamina and the lateral veins tend to be parallel to one another. The flowers are borne in large clusters on the outside of the tree. Colour forms range from very pale to dark pink, these are followed by large woody capsules to about 4 cm long. Flowering chiefly in summer and autumn, with some flowers also present in any month, this tree is both stately and beautiful, needing space to reach its fullest potential. - Head to our Link-in-Bio/Whats Flowering to discover the plethora of beauties adorning our Botanic Gardens at this time. - Twill bring a shineto your day, to be sure! - #fbbgsa #subtropical #swampbloodwood #red #pink #corymbiaptychocarpa #beauty #autumnflowering #friendsbrisbanebotanicgardensandsherwoodarboretum #brisbanebotanicgardensmtcoottha #joytobehold #trees #floweringtrees #australiannativeplants #brisbanecitybotanicgardens
