19.01.2022 Sprained your wrist and worried about nerve damage? It is rare for a simple wrist sprain to cause damage to the surrounding nerves. However, severe sprains, fractures or dislocations are more likely to lead to nerve related symptoms if the swelling or bone movement causes pressure on the nerves as they travel through the wrist into the hand.These symptoms usually pass when the swelling subsides or if dislocated bones have been re-located. A direct blow to the shoulder, or a funny twist of the shoulder or neck, can injure the nerve to the muscle that keeps the blades in that flat position. The Minister has also indicated that the Australian Government Department of Health is now developing full allied health telehealth options, along with other health and medical services, within the week. This will be part of a staged plan and he encourages providers to continue vital face-to-face services where possible. The ACA represents the chiropractic profession as a member of Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA), who are currently liaising with the Department of Health regarding this development and will be meeting with the Department shortly to discuss details for allied health items. 12.01.2022 Lumbar spine extension is the backwards curving of the spine in the low back region which happens when we lean back. Because there is generally a lot of movement in this area, it is susceptible to overloading forces which can lead to unhappy joints in the spine and muscles that run down the back either side of it. People who have a naturally bigger lumbar curve (aka hyperlordosis) are more at risk of overloading injuries to the muscles and joints in this region of the spine. 08.01.2022 Olecranon Bursitis (aka students elbow) is inflammation of a fluid filled sac (called a bursa) located under the skin and above the bone at the tip of your elbow. Anyone who spends extended periods of time on their elbows is susceptible to developing this problem. It is commonly seen in students, desk-workers and plumbers.
