24.01.2022 Full restoration on this mighty Tama Superstar 14x8 Birch snare from approx 1982. Complete disassembly of all components, ultrasonically cleaned, buffed, lubed and reassembled, repair to cracked laminate, full lacquer wet+dry sanded and Re-polished to high gloss. Over all the Drum came up amazing for a 40 year old drum and it has some very serious volume and crack to it with the puresound snare wires and new Remo heads. Absolute beast! 24.01.2022 Made my own hoop protector this evening - something I’ve been thinking about for the past week or so. Only took about 20 minutes to mark and hand cut/shape the 1.6mm stainless steel plate. I sanded it back to give the surface grip for the rubber strip and put some trusty double sided tape underneath to assist with the screw to hold it all in place. Works a treat and is solid as...steel! I love making little parts! 21.01.2022 Fresh + super smooth 400grit new round-over/45 bearing edges cut on the Sonor 16 floor Tom to help induce a lower+slower tonal response (the bass drum will be getting the same) Along with extensive work removing deep scratches and flea bites that were littered all around the shell. Quite a few solid hours into the drum over all, but the results speak for themselves, very well worth it. Coupled with all the hardware being ultrasonically cleaned, polished and buffed as well a...s the inside of the shell sanded smooth up to 240, the drum is almost like brand new again. Very keen to get the project finished and see the whole kit in action, but slow and steady wins the race in this instance! 17.01.2022 I often find myself making spare parts as they are either very hard to find or just don’t exist. This part I hand shaped and finished to suit a Sonor isolation tom mount system. Almost a perfect match and fitment was seamless, functioning just like the factory part. 05.01.2022 Details matter. While I’m busy as a bee prepping for the end of year, this rebuild and service of a PDP boom stand had issues with the cast locking block which basically takes the brunt of the force put on the stand when in use, was slipping. Took it apart, found the issue and once reassembled made sure to add some red threadlocker to ensure it stays sturdy and doesn’t slip again. Little things like this can be the difference of your cymbal or mounted tom moving away from you during play which can be distracting and frustrating. 03.01.2022 Absolutely stoked with the finish on the new round-over/45 edges I cut for the Sonor bass drum this morning. From factory it had a barely noticeable outer 45 which was sharp, although my aim was to allow the collar on the heads seat closer and with more surface contact on the shell to allow a lower and slower tone+feel - kind of like built in muffling if you may. Hopefully I’ll have this kit finished sometime this week and ready for it’s next journey!
