22.01.2022 Congratulations to BGS Old Boy Wallace Jin ’13 for receiving the 2020 Overall Victorian Young Achiever of the Year award for empowering the disadvantaged. Outside of being a full-time medical student, Wallace is CEO of CHASE (Community Health Advancement and Student Engagement). 22.01.2022 Congratulations to BGS Old Boys who won awards at this year’s Brisbane Young Entrepreneur Awards. Dr Sean Parsons ’97 won the overall award and the Health and Medicine category. His company Ellume develops, manufactures, and commercialises diagnostic products for healthcare professionals and consumers. Tim Johnson ’99 won the Hospitality and Tourism award for his popular restaurant Corbett & Claude, which has venues across Brisbane. He is also the creator of well-known companies Comuna Cantina, Knock Knock Gnocchi, Tetto Rooftop Bar, Mr Claude, Persona Coffee and Personality Wines. Many other BGS community members were also recognised in the awards.
20.01.2022 GRAMMAR ROBOTICS: BGS and BGGS had a successful day at the First Technology Challenge national competition on Saturday. Teams were interviewed by judges and presented their engineering notebooks detailing the design process leading up to the finals. Between matches, teams made minor modifications, tightened components and readjusted their game plan to try to maximise points. It was fantastic to have the Girls Grammar team sharing the playing field, with both schools showing incredible support towards each other. The attached photos show last week's Robotics sessions at BGS.
20.01.2022 BGS Old Boys Jack Anderson and Tom Bizzell, who both graduated in 2019, are grand finalists in the global 2020 Ericsson Innovation Awards, which focuses on innovative ways to address climate action. Representing UQ, the pair’s WakeShare proposal uses software tools to increase fuel efficiency in the freight shipping industry. As one of the top three proposals worldwide, they will pitch to a board of judges on 15 December. More: https://www.ericsson.com/en/careers/eia
20.01.2022 Congratulations to BGS student Marcus Bean who was one of seven Queensland athletes invited to Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence training camp this week.
19.01.2022 Congratulations to BGS Old Boy Raziq Qasimi ’14 who was admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Queensland yesterday. Raziq fled ethnic persecution in Afghanistan, came to Australia as a refugee and attended BGS in Years 11 and 12 thanks to a bursary. Now he is paying it forward by becoming a human rights lawyer. 17.01.2022 As BGS swimmers prepare for the GPS Swimming Championships on Friday 5 March, we look at the Head Coach overseeing their preparations Bobby Jovanovich. Bobby has been part of the swimming world for over 20 years as a professional swimmer and renowned Australian coach. He represented the green and gold on multiple occasions and is one of Australia’s top 10 all-time fastest backstrokers. At BGS, he focuses on applying innovative coaching philosophies and building boys’ transferable skills inside and outside the pool. He is committed to delivering a world-class BGS Swimming program that supports all abilities.
17.01.2022 2021 School Vice Captain Harry Anstey-Walsh spoke about the School’s Effective Thinking Cultures at assembly last week. He described ETC, which focuses on developing the quality of student thinking, as an ethos ingrained into our daily lives at BGS. It is the culture that has allowed me to grow as a person during my time at BGS.

16.01.2022 Throughout Term 4, boys in the Year 9 Public Purpose committee led a campaign to support the RBWH Patients in Need Program. T-shirts, tracksuit pants, shorts and thongs were generously donated to support patients who are isolated and in need of a helping hand.
15.01.2022 TOP MARKS: Congratulations to the four BGS Class of 2020 students who earned the top ATAR rank of 99.95 Lewis Luck, Tom Dickson, William McEniery and Remi Fox. It is an incredible outcome with only 30 students receiving this score across Queensland.
14.01.2022 We know it’s almost Christmas when our Middle School Tutor Groups start creating beautiful hampers for St Vincent de Paul. Well done to our Public Purpose boys for leading this initiative. The hampers will be collected later this month.

13.01.2022 BIG NEWS: The Class of 2020 academic results have been released and BGS seniors achieved outstanding results, including a median ATAR of 94.60. Four students achieved the top rank of 99.95 an incredible outcome with only 30 students receiving this score across Queensland. A further five students received an ATAR of 99.90. Other highlights include: ATAR 99 or above was achieved by 16.23% of seniors ATAR 95 and above was achieved by 47.17%,... 10.01.2022 THE GIFT OF OPPORTUNITY: Almost six years ago, BGS Old Boy Simon Fenwick ’87 donated $1.34 million to the Brisbane Grammar School Bursary Fund. He felt strongly that the benefits he had received at the School should be extended to students less fortunate. Indigenous student Stephen Baronio was the first to receive the bursary, starting Year 7 in 2015 as a boarder in Harlin House. 09.01.2022 BGS boys have been busy preparing for the upcoming GPS Swimming Championships next Friday and tomorrow’s Grammar Only Night. We asked them why they love BGS Swimming. Along with the quotes pictured, boys attributed their love for the sport to their coaches: Our coach, Mr Jovanovich, puts in a great effort to make our program one of the best in the country; he works us hard, teaches us life skills and provides us with every opportunity to succeed. There is something about his... drive for us to succeed that fuels and pushes swimmers forward to help achieve our common goal. William Jordan The new strength and conditioning coach, Mr Parnham, has added to the program significantly, specifically with his transparency in explaining how our gym programs translate to our swimming. 09.01.2022 SAVE THE DATE: The 52nd BGS Art Show themed ‘EMBRACE. The Art of Togetherness’ Gala Night is on Friday 11 June. The event will showcase feature artist Alexandra Matthews, as well as established and emerging artists from around the world. Don’t miss the opportunity to reconnect and celebrate the BGS community and the outstanding calibre of artists in our midst. The Gala Night is ticketed. Free viewing is available at the 2021 BGS Open Day on Saturday 12 June. Works will only be available for purchase on these days.
09.01.2022 BGS celebrated Library Lovers’ Day last week with quizzes and giveaways of pre-loved books. Tables of books were eagerly snapped up by avid Middle School and Senior School readers, with the remainder going to a community library for migrants wanting to improve their English. Year 5 boys embraced the event during their library lessons, writing haiku poems about libraries.
07.01.2022 Congratulations to BGS Year 11 student Jaguar Ngo who was part of the QDL State Debating Team who made it to the grand final of the National Schools Debating Competition. The competition was held virtually. Queensland fell in a very tight battle against NSW last night.

04.01.2022 ART FOR EYES: 2021 Boarding Captain Aly Sultan has developed an ingenious and altruistic way to maintain a connection to his home in Papua New Guinea. Following in the footsteps of his businessman father and ophthalmologist mother, Aly has started a social enterprise called Envision to help reduce cataract blindness in remote PNG villages. 02.01.2022 Congratulations to Old Boy brothers Cameron and Jordan Votan ('00 and '05), named in this year's Top 20 Under 40 young entrepreneurs list by Queensland Business Monthly. The duo have grown a successful restaurant and bar empire based on their two passions - authentic food and an eclectic interest in wine - with ventures including Fortitude Valley locations Happy Boy, Snack Man and Kid Curry.
