25.01.2022 Another tragic fire overnight at the heritage listed Broadway Hotel in Woolloongabba. The historic pub (built in 1889) has been derelict since fires in 2010 and again in 2017. Though devastating the facade and much of the essential fabric of the hotel seems intact and should be saved at all costs. Plans for a controversial 27 storey residential development on the site (which included preserving the hotel) were scrapped in July this year.
25.01.2022 Two protected character homes demolished illegally in Norman Park. Disgusting.

24.01.2022 Despite a unanimous recommendation from the NSW Heritage Council, the brutalist Sirius building with views over Sydney Harbour has been denied protection and will soon be demolished. Part of the reasoning seems to be the $70m+ value of the property, which will be sold by the NSW government and the building eventually replaced by a development of similar scale. Should land value be a consideration when a building comes up for listing? Or should an application be considered solely on its architectural or cultural merits? #sosSirius #SaveMillersPoint
23.01.2022 Looks like a reprieve for The Tivoli Brisbane...
22.01.2022 3 large trees have been removed from the Holy Trinity Church (circa 1876) in Fortitude Valley. While the loss of any mature tree is lamentable, according to the church this action was necessary to help preserve these important heritage listed buildings. 6 smaller trees will replace those lost to create a new green space in the inner city.
22.01.2022 A truly devastating event in Paris today. It goes to show just how precious, and fragile, our heritage buildings are. https://www.abc.net.au//notre-dame-cathedral-pari/11018158
20.01.2022 A community meeting has been organized by Jonathan Sri, Councillor for The Gabba to discuss the future of the Broadway Hotel. Get along to lend your support for the protection of our precious heritage buildings.
18.01.2022 Looks like the next battle is looming over the Brisbane City Council heritage listed property Abbotsleigh in Bowen Hills. As it sits in a priority development area the application to demolish has been made to the Queensland State Government, not the local council. The city council heritage listing states Abbotsleigh is significant because it demonstrates... "the evolution or pattern of the Citys or local areas history for the evidence it provides of the intensificatio...n of residential development in inner suburbs of Brisbane the 1880s." Bowen Hills is losing its charm house by house. Lets hope Abbotsleigh is not a victim of the intensification of residential development in 2016. 17.01.2022 Looks like a good result for two heritage buildings and increased public space in the state government review of the West Village development, shame the price to pay is an increased apartment tower height of up to 22 stories. 16.01.2022 Want to purchase your own heritage listed house? Then save your pennies and take a look at Tranmere in Kangaroo Point. Constructed in the late 1800s its listed by the Brisbane City Council as a rare example of a late 19th century masonry residence. Details below... https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-kangaroo+p
15.01.2022 Another shameful demolition of a heritage protected building, this time a beautiful Carlton pub constructed in 1857. Is it time to put stronger penalties in place to stop cowboy developers? With skyrocketing land values, current fines dont seem to be acting as a deterrent for such brazen acts. PS: A Change.org petition has started to make the developers rebuild the pub, sign up if youd like to see it happen... https://www.change.org/p/city-of-melbourne-resurrect-the-co See more @ Melbourne Heritage Action
14.01.2022 A worthy petition to sign for those that like their Queenslanders intact.

14.01.2022 Heritage building of the day: Mountview House in Spring Hill was originally constructed in the 1860s with further additions in the 1880s. Starting life as a residence it later functioned as a school and boarding house. Located at 37 Leichhardt Street Mountview House is thankfully listed on both the Brisbane City Council and Queensland Government heritage registers as a rare example of a 1860s two storey stone building. For a detailed history read this Wikipedia article... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountview_House

10.01.2022 Not sure whats happening to this Spring Hill beauty. An application was rightfully refused by the Brisbane City Council to remove the house for a development in 2015 on character grounds. A subsequent DA in 2016 to renovate the existing house was approved, yet it seems much of the pre-1946 fabric has been removed. Would this be for structural reasons? Perhaps the original architectural components will be refitted at a later date? If anyone has any skills in this department (heritage architect, builder, town planner etc) and would like to shed some light the current DA application number is A004432164.

06.01.2022 Great news for The Planet Theatre building in Camp Hill, shame about the old Woolloongabba Antique Centre building as its a beauty also. We look forward to seeing the new space!
06.01.2022 The landscaping looks complete on the Holy Trinity Church (1876) in Fortitude Valley. Theres no doubt pedestrian access and the visual aspect of the heritage listed buildings from Wickham St has been greatly enhanced. Theres a quiet internal courtyard between the church, Trinity Hall (1892) and the Old Refectory (1891). Theres also a lovely pedestrian laneway at the rear between the modern tower on Ann St. Check it out.
06.01.2022 These terrace houses would look right at home in inner Sydney, but thankfully theyre right here in Spring Hill. Constructed in 1888-1889 theyre also heritage listed (yay!). Take a walk down Berry Street near the Old Windmill if youd like to have a look.

04.01.2022 Tragically ravaged by fire in 2002, the Red Hill Skate Arena has since become the back drop for some pretty awesome street art. Hopefully any future redevelopment pays homage to whats left of the original 1920s structure.

02.01.2022 Want to do your bit to save Brisbanes heritage? Then sign this Change.org petition to Annastacia Palaszczuk MP and Jackie Trad to protect Abbotsleigh in Bowen Hills. Dating back to the 1880s this gorgeous piece of Queenslands heritage is under immediate threat of demolition. Lets hope the state government does the right thing and preserves this grand old dame for future generations. Theres also a Save Abbotsleigh Rally organised for April 16.
01.01.2022 Nice video showcasing Brisbane in 1954 when the tower of City Hall still dominated the city skyline. A lot has changed since then but its possible to recognise a few heritage buildings thankfully still standing. Enjoy.
