25.01.2022 We as Australians and Rotarians have never faced a situation like the present Covid-19 global crisis. The Pandemic brings with it, restrictive lockdowns, social distancing, border closures and nothing but bleak economic and dire health warning news! Our Rotary Clubs are meeting differently and are all under enormous pressure to meet commitments and sustain our many programs. What does all this mean for a successful 15-year-old Rotary project like Operation Cleft? The good n...ews is that through the support and generosity of Rotary Clubs and Rotarians across Australia over these years, Operation Cleft has been able to complete on your behalf more than 13,000 free life changing surgeries for the poor and disadvantaged cleft suffering children of Bangladesh. The situation in Bangladesh due to the virus is devastating, particularly for the millions that live hand to mouth. These are the poor families we work with, the families who benefit so much from our free cleft surgery program. The Cleft surgical program along with all non urgent surgeries was suspended from early March, yet we are reminded that more than 5000 mothers in Bangladesh this year will give birth to children inflicted with a debilitating Cleft Lip and/or palate issue (14 births per day). We are only able to continue to provide these humanitarian life changing surgeries if we have your on-going generous Club support. AUD300.00 (held at this level now for 4 years) will provide for the full costs of a single Cleft surgery. Our wish is that you can remember Operation Cleft in your Club deliberations this financial year. We thank you and your club in anticipation of your support in this very different and challenging 2020 year. Contact: [email protected] or call 03 9877 9717 See more

24.01.2022 Rotary knows firsthand that #VaccinesWork. Since 1985, weve contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children from polio. When children receive the polio vaccine, their pinkie fingers are marked with purple ink so health workers will know which children received the vaccine. Today, only two countries continue to report cases of polio caused by the wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan.

23.01.2022 Our Club Changeover night is 23 June 2020 at Viet Lotus. To book contact Graham Williams on [email protected] or 0400 003 923

23.01.2022 Greetings, fellow Rotarians and Rotaractors! I am so honored to serve as your president this year. We have important work ahead of us at Rotary, and we are going to have a lot of fun as we do it. Last year, we launched our five-year Action Plan to build a stronger future for Rotary. We are working to increase our impact, expand our reach, enhance participant engagement, and increase our ability to adapt. The last several months have shown that we as Rotarians and Rotaractor...s can realize these goals as we forge a new path for the future. Without question, COVID-19 has posed new and previously unimaginable challenges for Rotary. But within every challenge is perhaps an even greater opportunity. And while I could not have known what lay ahead when I selected my theme for the year, Rotary Opens Opportunities has even greater relevance as we begin our new Rotary year. I am incredibly inspired by how our members have adapted and responded to COVID-19. This global pandemic has made it difficult for many of our clubs to operate as usual, but we persevered, and over the past few months, Ive enjoyed connecting with my fellow Rotarians and Rotaractors in a new way: by visiting hundreds of clubs from my home. Its been fun to attend so many meetings virtually. If you havent already, I encourage your club to try an online meeting or add an online component, like hosting a guest speaker from a Rotary or Rotaract club located in a different part of the world. As we build a stronger future for our organization, its good that we are reaching out to new people and introducing them to Rotary. Its important that our clubs reflect the communities we serve. More diverse voices in our clubs and in our leadership will help Rotary stay in touch with a changing world. So lets find every opportunity to show we value each and every member. Lets seize this moment to build on what weve learned, to embrace our new reality, to welcome new faces, and to find additional ways to shine. This is how we will have a continuing impact on the world. And if you need assistance along the way, Rotary offers many resources that can help you reach your goals. Rotary means different things in different parts of the world, but we are all united by our core values and by The Four-Way Test. Rotary may change, but our values remain constant. I look forward to hearing about how youre finding new opportunities to engage and make an impact in your club and community. Rotary Opens Opportunities, both for the people we serve and for ourselves. Thank you. Holger Knaack RI President, 2020-21 See more

20.01.2022 Vaccines save lives, and the effort to #endpolio is proof that #VaccinesWork. 19.01.2022 Rotary has committed to raising $50 million per year for polio eradication. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged to match that 2-to-1, for a total commitment of $150 million each year. These funds provide much-needed operational support, medical workers, laboratory equipment, and educational materials. Governments, corporations, and private donors all play a crucial role in funding.

19.01.2022 Brisbane Inner North Rotarian Robert Cooper is three quarters of the way through going dry for July. It is in the aid of Cancer charities. He is 60% to his target of $500. Help him home.

17.01.2022 As the world responds to COVID-19 we must remember the children who miss out on life-saving vaccines that prevent dangerous diseases like polio and measles. This World Immunization Week Im joining @Rotary in the fight to #EndPolio because #VaccinesWork.

17.01.2022 While Italy has been largely locked down to fight the coronavirus, members of the Rotary Club of Morimondo Abbazia have provided support for people and businesses reeling from the effects of the pandemic. Their efforts are addressing both immediate and long-term needs including donating meals to health care workers, organizing a supply chain to get ingredients for liquid sanitizer, and helping businesses that depend on in-person commerce move their operations online

15.01.2022 Social distancing policies introduced in Australia to slow the spread of COVID-19 could have a devastating impact on our mental health, experts warn. With many fundraising events postponed or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Australian Rotary Health needs your help to continue supporting important mental health research. We have a goal to raise $200,000 by June 30, 2020.

14.01.2022 Our members are people of action especially in a time of crisis. And with clubs in nearly every country in the world, Rotary is uniquely prepared to help communities when they need us most. The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into projects through a flexible grant structure that empowers Rotarians to tackle complex challenges, like COVID-19, with short and long-term solutions .

13.01.2022 Fellow Rotarian, Lance Mergard, from Fortitude Valley Rotary receives a Medal for the Order of Australia for his many years of devotion to the well being and safety of other people in the Community, particularly with his creation, ChaplainWatch which looks out for those who get themselves into trouble in our entertainment precincts like Fortitude Valley. Congratulations Lance from Brisbane Inner North Rotary.

13.01.2022 NO MEETINGS FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. Following last night's announcement by the PM, I will be contacting the Viet Lotus restaurant to tell them that we shall not be meeting on Tuesdays until the corona virus is cleared up. Perhaps we can look at zoom meetings on computers. I apologise to those of you who indicated that they would be willing to meet at the restaurant. I hope that the Viet lotus can survive. With best wishes, David Swindells

12.01.2022 Rotarian and member of the Brisbane Inner North Rotary Club, Robert Cooper's own business has won for the third year running, Australian Insurance Brokerage of the year for 1 to 5 staff for Insurance Business Magazine. Part of his success is attributed to Rotary, who have taught many skills such as leadership, organisation and the importance of contributing to and being part of the Community. "Ï would recommend all business people become involved in an organisation like Rotary because of the connections, support and mentoring you learn by being part of such an important organisation" Rotary has given me many skills" Robert Cooper

11.01.2022 Using the extensive infrastructure developed to detect poliovirus and carry out vaccination campaigns, the polio eradication program is helping protect people from COVID-19, especially in countries where polio is endemic or people are especially vulnerable. From Pakistan to Nigeria, the program is drawing on years of experience fighting outbreaks to support governments as they respond to the new virus

10.01.2022 The plus in PolioPlus With decades of experience stopping polio outbreaks, Rotary and our partners have a critical role to play in protecting communities from the COVID-19 pandemic, just as the we did with Ebola, yellow fever, and avian flu. From Pakistan to Nigeria, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative is supporting governments in their COVID-19 response efforts. This truly represents the plus in PolioPlus. Learn more about the foundations of the polio infrastructure.

09.01.2022 When Rotary and its partners formed the GPEI in 1988, there were 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries every year. Today, we have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent, and just two countries continue to report cases of wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan. Because of the efforts of Rotary and its partners, nearly 19 million people who would otherwise have been paralyzed are walking, and more than 1.5 million people are alive who would otherwise have died. The infrastructure we helped build to end polio is also being used to treat and prevent other diseases (including COVID-19) and create lasting impact in other areas of public health.

09.01.2022 Past RI President Sir Clem Renouf passed away on 11 June aged 99 years. There will be many tributes written for him over the next few months all of which will have central to their tribute his role in commencing the Polio Plus campaign. Many people talk and hope to change the world, this man actually did and saw it happen. His funeral will be held on Tuesday 23 at 1.00pm. Due to COVID19 restrictions, attendance will be very limited,Due to Covid restrictions numbers of attende...es are limited and we must adhere to these rules. The family of our Late Past Rotary International President have graciously allowed for live streaming of the event Tuesday, June 23rd 2020 at 12:55 PM (Australia/Brisbane) Tuesday, June 23rd 2020 at 2:55 AM (UTC)

08.01.2022 Rotary members know the value of doing good, but the COVID-19 pandemic has made it more relevant than ever. Studies show that helping others boosts serotonin, a neurotransmitter that makes us feel satisfied. And thats a big incentive for community service, the very thing Rotary clubs excel at, as people everywhere face anxiety about health, families, jobs, and the future

07.01.2022 Amazing who can see signs around the suburb. There was me concentrating on all the Teddy Bears and the great Wilston Grange Bear Hunt.

07.01.2022 We are coming together to face a new test of our collective strength during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rotary districts around the world are applying for Rotarys disaster response grants in record numbers to empower Rotarians who are actively finding solutions and making a difference in their local communities. But we need your help. Because of this global need, The Rotary Foundation Trustees have increased the amount available for these grants from $1 million to $3 million. Tha...ts in addition to the generous contributions from donors to our disaster response fund over the last week. The outpouring of support is inspiring, but the demand will continue to grow, and we currently do not have enough funds to support the substantial amount of grant applications we are currently receiving from districts around the world. Your donation will help keep funds available as even more needs arise. These grants are already making an impact. They are supplying hospitals in Belgium, Croatia, and Italy with lifesaving ventilators. Theyre equipping frontline health care workers in Korea, Nigeria, the Philippines, Spain, and the United States with desperately needed personal protective equipment so they can care for patients safely. In India, disaster response grants are also improving conditions for patients and caregivers by bringing disinfectant sprayers, beds, and mattresses to health care facilities. In the midst of such difficult and uncertain times, Rotary members around the world persevere. You can empower them in their service to others by making a gift to the Disaster Response Fund. No challenge is so big that we cant make a difference. As we unite in response to urgent and emerging community needs, we will keep working to fight the spread of this virus and save lives. Thank you again for your unwavering commitment to Doing Good in the World. Sincerely, Gary C.K. Huang Chair, The Rotary Foundation 2019-20

05.01.2022 Clubs of Rotary International, Kiwanis International, Lions Clubs International, and Optimist International are working safely and diligently to maintain connections with each other and our neighbors so that we can cope with and overcome the effects of COVID-19. We are leveraging the strength of our combined networks of 3.2 million members to provide comfort and hope to those feeling the effects of isolation and fear

04.01.2022 Andrea and Kate from Broken but Brilliant came to our meeting last Tuesday night and spoke about their Not for Profit organisation helping to assist victimes of Domestic violence.
