25.01.2022 Alumnus Maddy chooses Montessori because the pedagogy helped her develop intrinsic motivation, which is important for everyday life. Her short experience at a non-Montessori school showed her that students lacked self-motivation there and did the bare minimum to get by. Maddy describes the nurturing environment she experienced at the school, which is not only important for a childs emotional wellbeing, but intellectual wellbeing also. She also refers to the unique role of ...the teacher in the Montessori education system. They are not treated as a superior figure, but connects with the student in a supportive way. #IChooseMontessori #M150

23.01.2022 Showing kindness toward our children and those in our care is always important, but its probably more important now than ever. I love this kindness quote from ...Maria Montessori: Let us treat them [children], therefore, with all the kindness which we would wish to help to develop in them. (Dr. Montessoris Own Handbook) You can get a free printable of this image here: https://bitsofpositivity.com/montessori-kindness-word-art-/
23.01.2022 Charl chooses Montessori as the pedagogy was developed through a scientific approach of observation. While Dr Maria Montessoris research was done around 120 years ago, what is remarkable is that modern research in neuroscience, child development and child psychology support this entire approach as an optimal pathway for a childs learning. Charl also observed that top educators dont teach down to their children, but create an environment that supports individualised learning. Montessori classrooms certainly reflect this approach. #IChooseMontessori #M150

20.01.2022 Our Year 8 students learned how to use a Scanning Electron Microscope at Middle Schools lab last term. This powerful microscope allowed students the opportunity to see specimens up close, and magnify a strand of human hair up to 10,000 times! A big thankyou to The University of Queenslands Inspire program for loaning it to the lab.
18.01.2022 Today is #EqualPayDay marking that on the whole women’s pay continues to lag behind men’s pay. And here’s how that connects to Maria Montessori. In 1896, jus...t after her graduation as a physician from the University of Rome, she was asked to form part of the Italian delegation at the International Congress for Women’s Rights in Berlin, and she passionately spoke on equal pay. We quote an essential message from her speech: However, I shall strive with all my might to see that the principle of the justice be generally supported: the same wage for the same work. Therefore, I ask the Congress to vote for our motion: ‘In all countries, delegates of societies promoting the interest of the population, should do everything, practically and effectively, to ensure that the wages of workers, male or female, be brought to the same level’. The motto Equal pay for equal work preludes Maria Montessori’s philosophy of equal respect for each child.

14.01.2022 Photo: 1913, Dr. Montessori examines the first copies of a new edition of her book The Montessori Method. I repeat and I insist: I did not wish to originate ...a method of education, nor am I the author of a method of education...This is not a method of education like other methods, but it is the beginning of something which must grow and which is in no way bound to any personality that may appear as the author, but it is solely allied to human beings who develop in freedom. It is a history of liberty and not the recital of any individuals thoughts (Montessori, 2013, p.10) Montessori, M. (2013) The 1913 Rome Lectures: First International Training Course. 07.01.2022 Madi chooses Montessori because the philosophy enables a child to drive their growth, just like an embryo drives their growth in the womb. The Montessori classroom provides a supportive, prepared environment and trained teachers to guide the process, but the child is trusted to strive, learn and reach their potential. #M150 #IChooseMontessori

04.01.2022 Anna chooses Montessori because children are treated with respect and kindness. In Annas experience, from an early age, they are encouraged to independently choose and do their work, and put it away for the next child. She says, at an older age, they schedule their own work [within the curriculum and Montessori-enriched offerings] and pursue self-directed learning. She finds the teachers to be kind, intellectual and thoughtful at the Brisbane Montessori School.
04.01.2022 NAIDOC Week celebrations have been held in classes this week with a wide range of activities taking place in order to educate and support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Our school's Indigenous Committee have been busy this week sharing resources, stories and information with staff. And students have embraced Indigenous art, Dreamtime Stories and exploring connection to country.
04.01.2022 To celebrate Maria Montessoris 150th birthday, we will be sharing videos throughout this month that highlight Montessori values and why its still such a loved system of education in the world today. Brisbane Montessori School parent Leanne Bier loves the Montessori style of education as children are treated as unique individuals and given freedom to independently do their work. This results in children taking ownership of their work and enjoying their school life. They also have the ability to master and go beyond the Australian curriculum. #IChooseMontessori #M150
03.01.2022 We have two very special photographs that we would like to share with our community at the end of this wonderful day. The first photo is a monument situated on... the piazza Mazzini, where Maria Montessori was born. It will be lit in a different colour each night: red on 30 August, orange on 31 August, yellow on 1 September, green on 2 September, blue on 3 September, indigo on 4 September, purple on 5 September and white (sum of all colors) on 6 September. The meaning of this polychromic approach is explained by the rainbow as a symbol of peace, of which Maria Montessori was an advocate and ambassador. The second photo shows a photograph of Maria Montessori on her last visit to Chiaravalle, projected onto the Casa Natale. It is a very nice group photograph that includes the mayor of Chiaravalle at the time. We would like to thank Francesco Favi, the councillor of Chiaravalle, for taking these beautiful photos. #montessori150

01.01.2022 Happy birthday Dr. Maria Montessori! As we celebrate 150 years with many festive activities in the classrooms today, our Principal Chris Peach reflects on Maria Montessoris educational approach. Chris chooses Montessori due to its unique educational style and approach. Far from the traditional model, where the teacher is the oracle of all information and spoon-feeds students, he says Montessori allows children to explore their creativity, learn at their own pace, and delve ...deeper into subjects they are interested in. According to Chris, there is a common misconception that children can do what they like, but in reality, children have to earn their freedom through responsible actions; this enables them to build self-discipline. The Montessori method is holistic and incorporates social and emotional elements that teach them executive skills like teamwork, resilience and empathy. In essence, Chris sums up, the education prepares them to become tomorrows leaders. Montessoris alumni include many extraordinary individuals, including Amazons founder Jefferey Bezos, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page as well as author Anne Frank. We have a few more videos to release, so stay tuned for more. #M150 #IChooseMontessori
01.01.2022 Grandmother and former-parent Vicki chooses Montessori as her experience has shown that its one of the best forms of learning for children, true to child development and child psychology theories that take the whole child into consideration. Montessori education encompasses all the ways a child may wish to learnsome learn visually, some are auditory learners, and yet some may prefer to learn through hands-on, touch-and-feel experiences. We will be sharing these videos throughout the month to celebrate Maria Montessoris 150th birthday. Stay tuned for more! #M150 #IChooseMontessori
