23.01.2022 This article from 2011 is still relevant today and so worth a read. A childs primary caregivers have a far greater influence on his or her development than anyone else. Its the steady diet of care that makes a difference the relationship we are building with our child that matters most.... https://www.janetlansbury.com//dealing-with-parenting-di/

23.01.2022 I'm fascinated by the work of science journalist Christie Aschwanden and her book "Good to Go: What the Athlete in All of Us Can Learn From the Strange Science ...of Recovery". She looks at the plethora of purported claims about sports recovery from sports drinks to magic pajamas (and the multi-billion dollar industry that surrounds these products), and her startling conclusion is that most of these approaches had little or no effect on recovery. The ONE thing that did make the most difference was sleep. If an athlete could get sufficient deep sleep this made a tangible difference to their recovery. She also found that some of the things that athletes believe "work", including simple things like ice baths do "work" in that they make the person feel better. She found that companies were trying to measure recovery through blood tests and fit watches when the very best thing we have is this subjective measure called "how do you feel". She says: "Recovery is a feeling, it's a sense that your brain takes all of the inputs and turns that into a feeling of being tired or not being tired, or feeling sore, so anything that makes you feel better, is "working". . . we're so eager to look at something that's physiological and when you look at those kinds of things, there aren't quantitative measure that can prove that it's helping. Many of these things are actually rituals where the athlete is taking some time to rest or put their feet up or not do something that is not "recovery." . . at a basic level, recovery is just rest, so anything that helps you to do that is great and effective." This got me thinking about why practices like Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra can help people to feel so much better. They are REST RITUALS. But the kicker is that we have a cultural resistance to rest. It's often interpreted as laziness, weakness or complacency. If you can't feel when you are tired, or don't trust the sensations of fatigue, or simply ignore fatigue, it's difficult to cultivate a healthy response to tiredness. As a child I received almost daily messages from my mother about how to respond to fatigue in the form of slogans. "No rest for the weary" was one of her favorites, second in line to "A women's work is never done". I absorbed those messages from a young age and now work on a daily basis to cultivate a kinder response to my fatigue. In what ways do you resist rest? And what are your best strategies for recovery? 11.01.2022 THIS is why youll never see me stop discussing the critical importance of making lifestyle choices that reduce inflammation within the body. It is the underlyi...ng cause of so many poor choices and outcomes in health, and it starts at a young age. The empowering element though? We can REDUCE inflammation in the body. The tools are at our disposal: a better diet, more movement, restful sleep, meaningful connections with friends and family. All these and more can help keep inflammation in check. Its up to us to use them though. Will you?

04.01.2022 Your trigger is a sign of an unmet need (period). The need to be seen, heard, acknowledged, supported, respected, and so much more. Over the last few we...eks Ive been sharing about triggers around our childs behavior and many moms have responded with "I can control how I react with my child, but I lose it on my partner." They are adults. We feel they should know better. We feel they show KNOW our needs. Heres the thing, you may not even know what you need in that moment. If you dont stop to reflect on what is triggering you and how your partner can help, then how the heck are they supposed to magically know? I wish it was like the movies where I was sad and my husband automatically knew what was wrong and showed up with flowers or drew me a bath and sent me to relax. But its not like the movies. We are responsible for identifying our needs and communicating them to our partner. This is often best done after weve had some time to calm down and reflect because the way an argument begins predicts how it will end 98% of the time. Practice using this I feel statement: I feel _____ when you _____ because _____. I need you to _____ and next time I will _____. This formula clearly shares why you were upset and names the need and how your partner can assist in it. It also requires you to take some responsibility for how you reacted or didnt share your feelings sooner. We all get triggered by our partner and its our job to get to the root of why and what need is going unmet See more
