19.01.2022 MEMORIES... BPO has proudly been a long-time supporter of the Lord Mayor's Charitable Trust (LMCT), which supports the Brisbane charities that assist people suffering from disability, homelessness, mental illness, drug or alcohol addiction, trauma, abuse or neglect. Across time, BPO has often donated a portion of profits from one of its annual Metro concerts to the LMCT, or volunteered musicians for specific events.... Today's memory is from the glamorous LMCT Gala Ball back in 2013. Donned in pearls and fascinators, a group of players from BPO performed an assortment of tangos and 20s tunes for the VIPs at City Hall. For more information about the LMCT, visit https://www.lmct.org.au/.

12.01.2022 Today, our President, and our loyal Patron, Ms Sallyanne Atkinson AO, met to discuss how BPO will handle the next few months. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has halted all of our rehearsals and concerts for now, we are optimistic that our BPO community will continue to be active in some way. Over the coming weeks we will be sharing with you the best memories of past BPO activities. We are also continuing to plan amazing projects for when the baton can return to the conductor's hand!

08.01.2022 MEMORIES... BPO has delivered numerous world premieres across our 20-year history. In 2017, we commissioned and premiered Lisa Cheney - Composer's new Flute Concerto with soloist Jonathan Henderson. Jonathan has recently updated his website with a live recording of the performance. The work was incredibly exciting for us to perform as it employed a range of styles, colours, and techniques we don't often get exposure to! https://www.jonathanhendersonflute.com/watch
07.01.2022 Today we would have presented the amazing show "Sondheim on Sondheim" at QPAC, had it not been for the current world health situation. So to brighten our spirits, we're remembering an incredible concert we had back in 2013! "Flights of Fantasy" was a concert of well-loved works that stir the imagination. Conducted by the ever-so-entertaining David Law, the feature work was Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" narrated by ABC newsreader, David Curnow.... The concert was a sellout with the Old Museum Concert Hall absolutely overflowing with enthusiasm!
06.01.2022 It’s going to be amazing to perform with this icon!
06.01.2022 MEMORIES... A very squishy performance of Handel's Messiah at City Tabernacle Baptist Church from 2006.

01.01.2022 MEMORIES... As part of the BPO Concerto Competition, each year a local, non-professional performer is selected to play a concerto at one of our metropolitan concerts. The very first winner of this competition was our own Brendan Toohey. Brendan played in our season opener for 2012, delivering a delicious performance of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major. In the second half of the concert, much to the delight of our principal horn, we performed Bruckner's Symphony No.4.... These days, Brendan is living in Melbourne where he is a full-time teacher of clarinet and other woodwind instruments. He continues his love of community music-making by performing in various community orchestras, wind ensembles and big bands. Does Brendan remember his concerto performance with fondness? You bet he does! Brendan says that Mozart's Clarinet Concerto is played so often with piano accompaniment - so to play it with a live orchestra was a rare and incredible experience. We are glad to share this memory with you, Brendan!
