25.01.2022 The Rotary club of Brisbane through its fundraising and foundation supported charities and humanitarian causes to the tune of almost $80,000 in 2019-20. The Club has almost 100 years of history supporting charities and humanitarian causes. Our community contribution over the last 10 years’ totals over $750,000 and thousands of hours of volunteer time. This year we are looking to deliver some of that assistance to young entrepreneurial charities and causes that need help to el...evate their product or service and make a worthy difference. But Sponsordea is about so much more than just the money. Sponsordea calls upon a stable of highly successful business people from the Rotary Club of Brisbane, each with their own unique skill sets and experiences waiting to mentor and guide successful applicants along their journey. 25.01.2022 Today's club lunch was mega! 25 x attendees + 5 new member inductees: - Andreas Andersen - Jane Toohey - Miles Murphy - Angela Murphy... - Terrence Munroe We're the fastest growing club in our district, on track to achieve 30% growth within 6 mths. We haven't inducted 5 new members at once since 2002! We heard a moving presentation from Suzanne Mackenzie, a polio survivor who was crippled by the disease, only to rise up and share her story and raise awareness of the importance of vaccinations in her role as Director of Polio Australia. Our club has donated over USD$100,000 to Rotary Foundation to help to eradicate Polio around the world. If you'd like to join our club and make a difference in our community, please direct message our President Dan Adler.

25.01.2022 What is the Value of Rotary? Over 100 years in Australia, Rotarians have given their talents, time and money doing good in the world. Has it been worth it? How ...about these 10 Thought Starters? Can you add to the list? 1. $45m donated to Australian Rotary Health over 40 years from all Australian Districts helping address indigenous and mental health issues - saving how many lives and enhancing so many futures 2. The first project resuscitating Scouting after WW1 raised 14,000 pounds in 1921 or the equivalent of $1million+ in 2021 3. If every Rotarian in the past 100 years donated the equivalent of $100, that would approximate $300 million. After leveraging fundraising and matching grants, that may be $1billion++ of making a difference 4. If every Rotarian attended 50% of our weekly meetings with breakfast, lunch or dinner, that pumps $500,000 into the local economy every week, every month, every year for 100 years. 5. What is the community and economic value of all the farmers markets, fun runs and festivals sponsored in 1000+ Rotary communities every year? It must be $millions of fundraising plus creating untold enterprise value for many small businesses. 6. Is it true that Rotary raised $10million as part of the Farmers Aid fundraiser during the recent drought? 7. What is the value to young lives and the economic stimulus that flowed from 60 years of Youth Exchange that now involves 8-9000 students every year (pre or post COVID). A program that started in Australia that must be worth $100million+ in economic value each year around the world. 8. If every Rotarian in the past 100 years volunteered just 1 hour per week, cumulatively that sets a benchmark of 200 million hours of community impact. At $25 per hour, that is worth $5 billion over 100 years and counting 9. What was the value of Rotary urgently delivering 1 million face masks to emergency service workers during the recent bushfire season when supplies were exhausted? 10. Governments save $14,000 each year for every homeless person where Rotary helps find permanent accommodation. How many lives and futures have been saved along with huge savings? You tell me, has it been worth it? Can we create 100 examples of how Rotary has made a quantitative impact on society? It's part of our centenary legacy and a platform to add value for the next 100 years.

24.01.2022 Today Jake Kelder was inducted as our newest member of Rotary Club of Brisbane. Our District Governor, Neil Black was there to participate in the ceremony. Jake's first job is stepping in for our President Dan Adler next Monday, who will be away on annual leave, and Jake will be hosting the meeting as if he was President for the day. Should be very interesting to take part in his workshop which will be based around shaping our club for the future. Join us if you'd like to collaborate in the discussion. Welcome Jake and thank you DG Neil Black for kick starting your road show at The Brisbane Club.

22.01.2022 POLIO The Sting In the Tale Guest speaker Suzanne MacKenzie gave an inspiring and surprising talk today on both her own journey to combat a debilitating disease and recent developments that require continued campaigning and education. Despite the near elimination of polio as an infectious disease, it continues to cause suffering as it becomes apparent that those who contracted polio up to 60 years ago, are now developing what is known as Late Effects of Polio (LEoP). ... Suzanne has spent many years speaking for Polio Australia but this recent development also needs advocacy as many young people are unaware of the polio story and many in the medical profession (as well as the general public) are unaware of LEoP. So despite a lifetime of discouragement and living with a considerable disability, Suzanne’s life achievements have been many and remarkable, and now she has started on a new chapter of informing people about this ongoing challenge of polio. Suzanne’s story of overcoming pronounced difficulties throughout her life to excel in a number of fields is a reminder of how important the PolioPlus program is It was an honour to have her at the club today.

12.01.2022 Rotary International do so many amazing things to help people around the world, and right now, more help is needed than ever before. But it’s the little things Rotary Clubs do in their local area, in grass roots, that all adds up to one big team effort. Today, like every day over the holiday period, Denise Schellbach and her team of merry friends and colleagues cooked a hot meal for those who are sleeping rough or in need of food. Denise has been doing this, helping St Joseph’s College ‘Terrace’, for 20 years now! We’re all happy to chip in to provide a BBQ beef and egg sandwich, with sauce and a smile to make these locals start their day in a better way. Well done to all the clubs around the world doing their bit to make a difference.

10.01.2022 Today we were privileged to experience the exceptional hospitality of the Queensland Cricketers Club (QCC). Blessed with a pristine view of the Gabba oval and delicious meals, we heard from the CEO of the QCC, Lachlan Furnell. In an eloquent Q&A with President Dan Adler, Lachlan's passion and resilience for the QCC throughout the pandemic was evident. Working in two industries- sport and hospitality- that took the full force of COVID everywhere in the world, the QCC was able ...to thrive under Lachlan's leadership. Perhaps the largest takeaway from his character, is that he views setbacks as opportunities. Although, he highlighted the support from his wife as another contributing factor to the club's success. The excellent service that Rotary received at the club was exemplary of Lachlan's ethic. The Rotary Club of Brisbane would like to thank Lachlan and the QCC for an excellent service. If you would like to hear from and have the opportunity to talk to inspiring speakers like Lachlan Furnell, join us each Monday for our weekly meetings (12:30-1:30 at the Brisbane Club).

08.01.2022 Great idea for club projects.

08.01.2022 https://brisbanerotary.org.au//2019-2020-rotary-year-disru As a club we continued to punch well-above our numbers, participation levels, and average age. No matter ‘Projects Interruptus’ for the second half of the year, we strengthened projects from 2018 & 2019 (Kyeema, Outback Futures, Downs & West Community Outreach, Drought Appeals, Breaking Free, and Youngcare) with financial aid by standing on the shoulders of past RCoB Presidents and Members.

08.01.2022 Dear friends Many thanks for your assistance again to help me run Eddie’s Van. Some of my friends have helped me at the beginning 20 years ago and are still volunteering their time to assist, then going off to their workplace.... As I have said before, I cannot do it alone and without your help the Van wouldn’t operate over the long summer school holiday period. Today, because of the weather we had to operate under the roof of the WWII air-raid shelter for the second time this week and we had to disturb some of my customers who were sleeping. We must never forget the people who are less fortunate than ourselves and the growing mental health problems out in the community. Others rather than self I say always!!! Keep safe and healthy for 2021. Denise Schellbach.

07.01.2022 Tonight we’re conducting committee meetings to discuss the exciting new ideas and ventures that our club members are involved with. Every fortnight we meet after hours to attract new members who want to be involved yet can’t attend a lunch meeting. If you’d like to attend one of our after hour committee meetings, DM our President Dan Adler via LinkedIn. Love to collaborate with you on causes that make a difference in our community.

On an administrative level, the club has added new Chairs and roles to keep the club running smoothly. Congratulations to Angela Murphy, who was today given The Presidents Recognition Award for her outstanding contributions to "The Centenary Gala Ball" which will be on the 13th of February at the W Hotel. Without marketing tickets, we have already provisionally sold 80% of the available tickets We look forward to sharing more information about the Centenary ball in due course. Next week, we will

05.01.2022 Chi-Chi the lighthouse keeper!

04.01.2022 As we near our 100th year serving our community, we've heard the feedback from our club members, and prospective members... in order to stay relevant and grow, we need to be relentless in our pursuit of diversity and renewal. Today's club meeting demonstrated our intention to listen and take action. We had the youngest members of our club taking responsibility for new initiatives. Our ladies of Rotary stole show, and our friend Ken from PNG shared his story and encouraged us ...to help him make a difference through educating their children in remote villages. It starts with one person that potentially can influence many. Do you want to make a difference? Join us at The Brisbane Club each Monday from 12.30-2pm. Fulfilment can only be achieved through contribution. In Rotary we serve.

03.01.2022 The very first call for applications went live on Wednesday, 11th November, 2020 and we're already receiving applications. Entries close on 28th January 2021, with a shortlist announced on the 1st February. Shortlisters would then be asked to pitch their idea in person to the Rotary Club of Brisbane board, like they do on the successful TV show ‘Shark Tank’. From there, should one idea be worthy, a winner will be awarded a grant. The process will then happen all over again in April 2021. Want to apply? Visit https://sponsordea.org

03.01.2022 Two old men are drinking at a bar, one says "Did you know that Lions have sex 10 to 15 times a day? The other fella said, bugger! I just joined Rotary".
