22.01.2022 The Brisbane Rugby League Referees’ Association is over the moon to have three female Match Officials appointed to the Under 18 Nev Blair game this Saturday at ...Panthion Stadium (Albert Bishop Park). From what we believe, this is likely to be the first-ever all-female team of Match Officials to oversee the top Junior Community Rugby League competition. With Brittanee Stephan in the Middle, the touch lines are being ably controlled by Kate Hickey and Amy Campbell. As the female Rugby League competitions keep gaining traction, the BRLRA is witnessing an increased interest in young ladies wanting to be an integral part of the game by picking up the whistle. Many outsiders may think that the girls should only be in control of the female competitions, but these hard-earned appointments are proof that they can certainly mix it with the best of the guys. The Association President, Alan Reese recalls his first discussion with Brittanee a few years ago at a final at Emerson Park. He recalls the most salient part of the encounter was her comment I don’t want or expect any special treatment as a female. I just want to be judged equally and have equal opportunity with the guys. Well, that you have Brittanee and you have proven that you have the mettle to achieve your goals. All three Match Officials have progressed through the ranks of the BRLRA from the junior modified games into the International games and the BRLRA are supremely confident that these young ladies have a bright future as Match Officials. Ladies, get out there enjoy the game and make your fellow members proud on Saturday.

19.01.2022 We have just been informed that one of the BRLRA community, Doug Manson has passed away this morning. Doug has been a very important friend and mentor to many of the Association’s members over some 40 odd years and he will also be missed by the Rugby League Community in Brisbane everyone knew Douggy! The majority of us have had some form of dealings with Doug Manson and his unique character will be sadly missed around the fields. Doug will always be remembered as a fighter ...and this last week just proves that he wasn’t going to move on easily. Please join me in offering the Association’s condolences to his family and friends. Alan Reese President
