25.01.2022 Paul Wickham, this will interest you. Ive started on the 1/48 Scale Space Above And Beyond Hammerhead Kit. That big chunk of Resin from ACME360. Looks like it ...will eat a lot of Milliput. And check out the Add-Ons Ive had to get for it. Its gonna be an epic build. Doing it up as Col TC McQueens Fighter from the Episode The Angriest Angel. 25.01.2022 Something for the Sci-Fi Fans. My Model of a 'Hammerhead Frigate' from the Rebel Alliance. Only, mine isn't the unarmed Blockade Runner we saw in the opening sc...enes of Star Wars Episode IV. Mine is a fully armed Gunship version of the same type. 3 extra Laser cannon turrets, and, a Rail Gun firing along it's central axis. It can both amply defend itself and dish out punishment. A nasty shock for any Empire Ships that encounter them. It's an adaption of the Bandai Kit, which scales out at about 1/1200. Fits in nicely with the rest of my Starships Collection.

24.01.2022 I have finally completed the rebuild of one of my Models. Its an Airco DH-2 Scout from 1916. It had been partially destroyed by a Bust of Brad Pitt as Achilles... falling on it. I recovered what I could, but the wing and fuselage struts were a write off. Luckily, I had recently purchased another of these Kits from Hobby One, so I managed to source the replacement bits. As you can see, it is a very fragile thing. It took about a month of on-again, off-again work to get it back whole again. The new colour scheme is quite attractive, and the trained Spider got quite a workout (12 hours) to get the rigging done. Brad Pitt, keep away from it!

23.01.2022 Another product of my Imagination is finished.

22.01.2022 My latest completed Model. A Polish TKS Gun Tankette, as in service on 3rd September 1939. Small and low to the Ground, it was more like a Self Propelled Gun th...an a Tank. But, it was only armed with a long barreled 20mm Gun, and one 7.92mm Machine Gun. They were outclassed and destroyed every time they encountered a German Panzer. This is a First to Fight kit, made in Poland. Its only tine. A late Friend of mine, John King, called my 1/72 Scale Tanks "Cockroaches". JK would have had even more difficulty with this one. Probably would have called it an Ant. It went together very well and has a nice amount of detail for something its size. A pleasure to build and put on the shelves.

22.01.2022 Whats on my Modelling Workbench. View of the Mikasa, bow and stern shot. Next stage, the walkways for the Torpedo Nets, and the Admirals Walk on the Stern. The ...jumble of white stuff in the square box is the Space Station K-7 from Classic Star Trek. Hard part is going to be putting all those Tribbles inside. See more

21.01.2022 Had a couple of days at home with nothing much to do. Decided a Shake and Bake Model Kit would be the thing to occupy my time. Took out a HobbyBoss Messerschm...itt 109 Kit from the Stash and went to work. 1/72 Scale Bf-109 G-2. 2 options, one from Tunisia 1942 and one from Russia 1942. Went together like a dream, with only a tiny bit of filler and sanding required. Had to detail the Cockpit, though. Added instrument panel, gunsight, Aerial wire and seat belts. I had a need for a mid-war Me 109 from the Russian Front, so I decided to finish it in those Kit Options. The decals went on well, but needed some careful handling. They are nicely thin for a cheap Kit and settled down well. Light staining applied, and finished off with a spray coat of Humbrol matt varnish. German Warplanes of this period have quite an artistic presence with their colours both complementing each other and blending very well on the Subject. Its now the new boy on the shelf, sitting beside the Tiger Tank and the Lancaster Mk. I.

21.01.2022 I am addressing you tonight in my position of Hon. Secretary of the Bulimba District RSL Sub-Branch. Saturday next week is ANZAC Day. Unlike previous ANZAC Days..., there will be no Formal Commemorative Services or Marches. COVID-19 has led to these cancellations in order to help contain the Infection. And, to preserve the health of our Veterans, many who are in the highest risk category. Instead, we will be observing the LIGHT UP THE DAWN Program. This is where as a mark of Respect and Remembrance, we ask you to gather on your Driveways or Balconies at 6:00am on the 25th, hold a lit candle or flashlight, and observe one minutes silence for those who have sacrificed to Defend Australia and our way of life. Ill be doing so. I have attached a Poster for you to print and Display on your front fence. And, if you feel like getting more involved, some letterbox flyers to print and put in you neighbors letterboxes. LIGHT UP THE DAWN. ANZAC DAY, APRIL 25th

21.01.2022 Members of one of the Model Clubs I belong to have been posting photos of their Christmas Model Booty. Here is mine. 2 of the Kits are of WW2 Polish Subjects. T...hey come with Booklets. Can anyone out there read Polish? And I received 2 of the Agplane kits. The Ariane Rocket will fit in quite nicely with my Apollo, Mercury and Vostok Models in the living room. See more

20.01.2022 Another Model in the display case today. The second part of the old Lindberg Battle of the Ironclads Set. The CSS Merrimack. Like the USS Monitor, this was al...so a simple build. The only difficult bits are the Flags, which have to be put on backing to be used, and the undersupply of Cannons in the Kit (14 gun ports and only 12 cannons in the kit. I lacquered the kit decals beforehand, then slid them on to some flattened out Easter Egg foil before folding, gluing and attaching to the Mast Cordage. I made 2 similar sized Cannon Barrels by sculpting some plastic tube. Painting Merrimack was a challenge. The underside of the hull had engraved rectangular panels. with nail heads engraved on them. Copper sheathing was commonly used during this period as an anti-fouling measure. So, copper the colour was. The keel and strengthened bow were painted in a deep red-brown, to represent the Hardwoods that would have been used. Upper Decks, Tamiya Deck Tan and a home made mix of Gunmetal/Iron Colour. Funnel Vents and Ventilators were painted in Flat Black as per kit instructions. The result was quite pleasing, and it fits in nicely with my 1/350 scale Ships.

20.01.2022 Todays Model post. This one caused me some Tribble. Thats right. Its infested with them. Have a look in the windows in the outlying Arms. Luckily, Kirk and the USS Enterprise have arrived! Phasers set to stun Here it is, the AMT Fit-the-box scale Space Station K-7.

20.01.2022 Reviewing my Model Collection today, I realized there were 2 Aircraft that I didnt have photos of. My 2 Revell Zany Planes. This situation has now been recti...fied. Here is the first. Flt Lt Rif Raff and his Spitsfire. Complete with London Fog Exhausts, twin 20 Mikrometer Cannons, and, the obligatory mustache and pipe. That is all I have to say about this Model. The Photos say the rest. Donna Ann from Riverside Scale Modellers, you will appreciate this :-)

18.01.2022 Whats everyone else been building? Some photos please. Trevor

15.01.2022 Finished off one of the almost fixtures on my work table today. Started Her some 10 months ago, when I gave a series of Model Building demonstrations at the Q...ld Maritime Museum. The Hasegawa IJN Mikasa in 1/350th Scale. It was the Flagship of Admiral Togo when he won mhis great victory over the Russian Fleet at the 1908 Battle of Tushima. The kit is the usual high quality Hasegawa Product. Well moulded and logical in its construction sequence. But with lots of small parts. And I had to go out and buy an Etched Brass railings and stairways set as well. Here she is, in Her grey warpaint as she wore on the morning of the Battle.

13.01.2022 On another Topic. Finished yet another long term Model Project. NCC-594 USS Cody. According to FASA Data, the Cody was a Saladin Class Destroyer/Scout Starship ...used by StarFleet. It was one of the Ships that survived the Border Wars with the Klingons and Romulans, and was upgraded to Linear Warp Drive configuration about the same time as the more famous NCC-1701, USS Enterprise. I made it from the old AMT 1/500th Scale Kit. Cut the Engineering Hull from the Pylon, attached a single Warp Engine and faired it all with Putty. Sounds easy, but was anything but. It was a bit of a Hanger Queen for years, but, Social Isolation gave me the encouragement to finish it. Decals from the Star Trek Spares Box. It was made for a good Friend of mine who collects Star Trek Models. Its been eagerly awaited since I started the project. Ill be giving it to him as a Birthday Present next week. Job done.

12.01.2022 Hello Everyone. Have some sad news. Former Member of BSM and Life Member of the QMHE Committee, John King, passed away suddenly last week. John was one of our larger than life Club Members back in the day when we met at Bardon Professional Development Centre, Salisbury High School and Orange Grove High School. Remember those days? John was an excellent 1/35 scale AFV and Vehicle Modeller, and made some stunning Dioramas. His work was world class. John left BSM to Join AAMS, w...hen that Club formed in the Logan City Area. There he enjoyed the close company of other dedicated AFV Modellers. He also became quite involved with the running of the QMHE, occupying many positions on their Committee over the years. It was for this dedication to our State Expo and Competition that John was awarded his Life Membership. John was a Force Majeure in our Modelling Community. He will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace, JK.

12.01.2022 Model 1,200 project. Its going on steadily at the moment. Got bogged down with some information requirements, and had to go back to both Internet and personal ...Library to resolve the Matter. I needed to verify the Armament fit-out for a Doolittle Raider and what engine exhaust configuration they had. All the parts were in the kit, but the instructions werent overly specific . And, it has needed a LOT of weight to be added to the nose area if you want to avoid it being a tail-sitter. A big chunk of lead wheel weight behind each engine, another chunk under a false floor inside the forward fuselage, and finally, had to fill in under the floor in the nose compartment with lead bird shot. Its getting there. Slowly but surely.

09.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Happy News. We have been advised by the Library that we can now resume our regular Monthly Meetings.Of the 3 Groups that use the Rooms on Wednesday Nights, only we meet the criteria. A couple of conditions apply. 1. We cap our numbers attending to 15.... 2. We use the Hand Sanitizer and Sterilizing Wipes (Supplied) 3. We adhere to social distancing guidelines. It is too soon for us to Meet tomorrow night, 12th August, but we will definitely meet on September 10th, October 8th, November 12th and December 8th. So, I look forwards to meeting up with you in September. Cheers, Trevor

09.01.2022 Finished one of my NZ Ready pre-detailed models this afternoon. Id done all the detailing work beforehand, and got the kit boxed up for a leisurely quick-bui...ld while on the Holiday. The construction and Airframe painting only took me 3 sessions of 2 hours to finish. A 1/72 scale Heller Messerschmitt Bf-109 V7. Yes, Prototype Me 109 number 7. First flew in 1937. First of the hordes that the Allies faced in WW2. Already have the Spitfire Prototype. Now have the Me-109 Prototype. Next one up will be the Hurricane Prototype.

08.01.2022 Had a couple of days at home with nothing much to do. Decided a 'Shake and Bake' Model Kit would be the thing to occupy my time. Took out a HobbyBoss Messerschm...itt 109 Kit from the Stash and went to work. 1/72 Scale Bf-109 G-2. 2 options, one from Tunisia 1942 and one from Russia 1942. 08.01.2022 Finished the penultimate stage of my Model of the IJN Mikasa (1908). Finally got all the photo-etched brass railings put on. Had to get photos of all the bright...work before it gets covered with Grey paint After that, its time to get out the trained spider and do the Rigging and Flags. And found the right colour for Admiral Togos Fatigues - US Navy WW2 Intermediate Blue. Have pictures of him next time.

08.01.2022 Hello Everyone. We have been informed by the Library that the Meeting Rooms still are closed due to COVID-19 Restrictions. They will be getting back to us at the end of July. Hopefully there will be an August Meeting. Until then, Stay Calm and Keep on Modelling. Trevor W

07.01.2022 Update on my Space Above And Beyond Hammerhead build. Have bogged up the gapes in the fuselage and am sanding them back and proving them with undercoat. But, I...ve had a major win with the Weapons. Found some Modern long range AAms that can be easily worked into Super Falcons for the wing mounts. And have managed to build a workable facsimilie of the M230 Chain Gun for the nose turret. Still a long way to go, but its an enjoyable process getting things done.

07.01.2022 More progress on the Hammerhead build. Sci-Fi Fans will appreciate this. The SA-47 Hammerhead Indo/exo Space Fighter Plane from the Series, Space Above and Bey...ond I have finally got to the attach the wings stage. Put 2 brass wire pegs in to re-inforce the butt joints. Big gaps now to fill. Im using melted plastic to do this. Dissolved plastic scrap in strong liquid glue, then when to Plasticine consistency, trowelled it in to the gaps. When dry, the joint will be carved smooth. A lot of mucking around, but this kit is the only Game in town for a Hammerhead. Keep Calm and Model on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBaQFafK3ZU

07.01.2022 Well, its now the new year. Im free of my 2019 promise to only build weird models. Here is my first un-weird model. Well, almost un-weird. Just a bit Altern...ative. P-40N Kittyhawk H Snafu from late 1944. Formerly RAAF, now operated by 120 Squadron NEIAF (Netherlands East Indies Air Force) at Merauke, West New Guinea. It was good to build a mainline (Hasegawa) kit again and paint it in a standard colour scheme. Here she is.

06.01.2022 Some new goodies arrived in the mail today. A Pre-Lockdown order from Hannants in England. Will have fun with these.

06.01.2022 Have started on a Milestone for my collection. Model number 1,200. Yes, 1,200 according to my Photos Database. It is a 1/72 scale B-25 Doolittle Raider from Ita...leri. Its a nice size Shake and Bake. Will post photos of the build as I complete the stages. Number 1,200.

06.01.2022 Number 2 Zany Plane. The Messaschnitzel 109. This is the plane flown by Staffel Leutenant Moldy Weiners when he led his team to their Silver Medal performance i...n the Battle of Britain. It was a well finished Machine equipped with a Hilly Supercharger, big schpinner kannon unt different kaliber machinen guns just to confuse der Quartermasters. It also has an awesome set of after-market brake pads. Lt Weiners is seen in his cockpit, Monocle in place unt chomping on a big cigar. If you look closely you can see that famous Silver Medal.

06.01.2022 Another little Covid Lockdown Project completed.

05.01.2022 Hello Everyone. Trevor here. Looks like the Covid-19 emergency has closed the Library for the foreseeable future. So, Meetings are Cancelled until it all blows over. Keep Safe, Healthy and get stuck into your Kit stashes. Lets see what you are building during this time. Post some Photos. And tell all about your projects.

04.01.2022 Finished a Model today. Started it as part of a Workshop I gave at Brisbane Scale Modellers last Wednesday Night. Soviet SU-100 Tank Killer from WW2. The high v...elocity 100mm Gun it mounted could penetrate the Armour on most German Tanks. If it couldnt, there was the SU-122, whose Gun was the same size as those used on Naval Destroyers. And, of course, the Il-2 Sturmoviks that were always hanging around. The end months of WW2 in Europe wasnt a good time to be a German Tank Crewman. The Zvezda Kit from Russia is a great little kit. Well designed and relatively easy to put together. Only the Tracks gave me some problems. Just because its a Snap Kit - no glue required, doesnt make it a Basic Model. With a little more effort it makes up into a nice piece for the Collection.

03.01.2022 Well. The QMHE is over once again. We put on a well laid out Display with the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing as the Central theme. This was flanked and backed by various sub-themes. Sci-Fi Ships and Figures. Vintage Cars. Black Project Aircraft. A WW1 Ship Squadron. Civil Aircraft Squadron. And, a Blast Furnace. The Display had much interest from the Public, and many Flyers were given out during the Weekend. Everyone had fun. Now, to start planning the 2020 Display.

03.01.2022 Finished a bit of a problem Model today. Its a mish-mash of 2 seperate 1/72 Scale Hasegawa Mitsubishi Zeros. A M3 fuselage and empennage (wings and tailplanes) ...with a M5s engine cowling. It was a Legacy kit, given to me by a friend. Been wanting to do another M3 (Hamp) short winged variant for a while. This box of bits had the later M5s (Zero-sen) in it. Longer than the M3s and with a different oil cooler intake inset. Got in and cut the moulded Oil Cooler off and replaced it with bent plastic card. Then trimmed to fit the engine mount. Exhaust stacks had to be lengthened, as the M3 still had them poking out from under the gills. The fettling stage over, I painted it in the Colours of the IJNs Hamps. Green on top with Light Grey undersides. Have finished it in the Markings of one of the Tinian Air Group, based on the Marianas Islands in 1942. I think it came up well. You dont see many Green and Grey Hamps on the tables. Usually they are all Light Grey.

03.01.2022 Finished another Model yesterday. A Polish Prototype from 1939. The PZL P-50 Jastzrab (Hawk). It was another of Zygmunt Pulawskis designs, but a radical depart...ure from his previous inverted Gull Wings. A low wing design with retractable undercarriage and enclosed cockpit, the P-50 was modern for the times. Powered by a 870hp Bristol Mercury engine, the prototype had a top speed of 270mph. This was expected to rise to the 310mph range on the production versions, that were going to have 1,000hp Mercury engines fitted. It was armed with 2 rifle caliber Machine Guns on the cowl. It never saw combat or series production, flying for the first time just before the German Invasion. Known only by a single drawing, it was a What if Aircraft, until 2005 when several photos of it appeared and provided enough information to flesh out what it actually looked like. The Polish manufacturer Polair released a 1/72 scale kit of the Jastrzab in the proceeding year. It is a reasonably primitive offering with chunky molding, lack of fine detail and no interior. I swapped out the kit engine, cowling and propeller with bits from the spares box, and added a cockpit interior from scratch, following the layouts of the American P-35 and the Italian Re 2000, which were very similar. The Kit had no gun mounting detail at all, so I had to sculpt some Milliput to correct the profile. The Undercarriage needed a lot of work to correct the deficiencies in the kit. It was a lot of work to build this. It looks chunky, but so did the original. It sticks out amongst the other Polish Birds on the Shelf. Silver among a crowd of Green.

01.01.2022 Finished a problem Model today. Looked fine in the box, well known Brand. Interesting subject. It built up very well. Picked a final livery for it, and painted.... From the Rome Garrison in 1943. Lightly weathered it with watercolours. Then, the trouble began, gave it a spray with Humbrol Satincote. Tracks shrunk slightly,k and in the process, snapped off the Idler wheels. Arrrrrrrrgggghhhhhh! Had to repair the broken bits with a not existing on the real thing solid axle. Painted same. Looking almost good. Stapled tracks back together. Put them back on. Snapped again. Vinyl was now too week. Gently sewed them back together in 2 places. Now, had 2 not existing on the real thing knotted ropes on each side. Painted them to look like mud. Then ducked the wet bits in some fine backyard dust. Whew. Looks like mud clods stuck to the tracks. Well, sort of. Not the best result Ive had. Its now on the shelf, hiding among the rest of the Vehicles.

01.01.2022 Today my Milestone Model was finished. Number 1,200 in my collection. A 1/72 B-25B Mitchell from the 1942 Doolittle Raids (30 Seconds over Tokyo). It was a pre...tty well straight forward build, with almost no putty needed. The fit of those vintage Italeri Kits is great. Only problem is finding places to fill with ballast to prevent it being a tail sitter. I filled behind the engines with cut off wheel weight lead, put an unserviceable arrowhead under the false Navigators Compartment floor, then, also had to fill under the Bombardiers Compartment floor with lead shot. Finally, it stood on its nosewheel. Brush painted the Model with Humbrol Enamels and cross referenced the given paint scheme with Newsreel footage. Propellors and Hubs were overall black, with no yellow tips. Two false Machine Guns (black painted broom handles) were installed where the tail Guns used to be. I added the Radio Aerials and Insulators. Here it is. Model number 1,200. Looks good on the Shelf. Had a lot of fun with this one.
