25.01.2022 Having issues with low vision, mobility, seating, computer workstation, ergonomics, communication and access and home modifications, then there is help available through assistive technology. Lifetec based at Newmarket and Townsville is an organisation that is able to assist and they have a team of counsellors and assessors who may be able to help with recommending and using computer technology and help in your day to day life. Brisbane Seniors Online over many years have worked collaboratively with Lifetec and the services they offer and assistive technology that they recommend. Contact Lifetec to enquire how they can assist or see www.lifetec.org.au or phone 1300 543 383

25.01.2022 At the recent morning tea I was able to ask some questions to long term volunteers at BSOL. Here are some of the things I asked. Why did you volunteer at BSOL? The answers were varied , some had a work life that made them expert in technology or has some working experience in this field.... How long have you been a volunteer? One person told me since 2005 but assured me that some still active members have been there longer. What has changed over the years? Once we used to run regular training sessions for mentors that dealt with application packages how to transfer data, spreadsheets. These days computers have apps and have simplified the process for the end user. Our clients are also more technically educated and often need assistance with one or two things and can move on without any other assistance. It would be interesting to hear how you got involved and what keeps you volunteering
